  2. The Boston Crusaders are shaping up nicely this offseason. Info on the Corps show, theme, music, etc will be publically released as Mgt. sees fit. That is entirely their perogative and in their domain and I will respect that decision.

  3. Looks like front ensemble has a lot of vets returning based on a post on their percussion page. I'm sure they'll be absolutely killer again as they have been for years now.

  4. I don't get the entitlement some folks seem to have regarding any corps' repertoire. No drum corps is under any obligation, indirectly or not, to divulge anything about their show until they put it out on the field in June. If anyone is that hell bent on knowing what Corps X is playing, just jump on a plane and fly to a camp and help feed the kids or work on the fleet of trucks. Then, you'll hear and see first hand what they are doing. Back when I was alive, we relied on scant info in Drum Corps News and Drum Corps World all winter and spring. Sometimes, there may have been a standstill show in April somewhere...otherwise, we'd all wait until the first show in June. Every drum corps now is focused on learning their shows. In my mind, they have no responsibility whatsoever to the fan base until the first actual show. (As a Patriots fan, I DEMAND to know what Belichick is going to do in the Super Bowl....) :) Right....

  5. Yeah that's the only negative really. From the corps' POV you're only carrying your strongest members.

  6. I think it's cool that all the board players play all the time (instead of all the tacet you see in a "conventional" config). For all you perc experts: Does it force a reduction in the total overall size of the FE?

  7. As a person who currently works in the Healthy Living department, I am very pleased by this project. I am very excited to see the growth in this area!

  8. Every day we are faced with decisions we have to make. Right or wrong, good or bad we make them in the best interest of ourselves or our families. Shortly after last season’s DCA Championships, Brian Maroldt, Drum Major of the Connecticut Hurricanes was asked by the Board of Directors to assume the role of […] View the full article

  10. I really like the Bryan Ferry "Jazz Age" album, and I think there's some great stuff in there for drum corps. But more broadly, I'd like to see a "Jazz Age" show by BD. It might be difficult to portray "Gatsby," but definitely costuming and music from the era.

  11. On November 12th and 13th, Southern Knights held our first Open House/Membership weekend for 2017. We had a pretty good turnout, considering we are in the High School playoffs, and college games time of year. Several vets missing due to this. We had about 30 horns, 8 guard, and 20 percussion... most of whom were there both days. Our goal is to have a full 65 member Class A size corps for 2017. Next Open House/Membership weekend is December 17-18... Year number 2 is under way for the Southern Knights from Birmingham, Al.

  12. Love that show! I saw them in Little Rock at my first live DCI show.

  13. And the drill was really, really good. Seamless transitions, fluidity of motion, full of great effects. And that ballad -- guard work just speaks the music. Musically such a wide variety of source woven together so well. While 2013 may have won, 2009 was perhaps their best work.

  14. I just watched that one recently, it's a case where if that show they ended with was the one they started with it probablu would have been a whole different season. It's full of really fantastic moments. Kashmir is freakin great and I love what they did with Tango in the closer.

  15. In looking through old shows, it made me realize how I had forgotten how much I loved 1988. Beyond the top corps that year, you had Spirit of Atlanta with Petrouchka, Star doing Porgy and Bess, Suncoast Sound with Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child, Bluecoats with Autumn Leaves (one of my all time favorites), and Sky Ryders with Sound of Music! Wow, so many awesome shows that year!

  16. So cool how they hid the mics and amps for those soloists.

  17. Actually ALL 4 of last year's tenors are back. They decided to add a 5th for 2017. I believe the 2017 percussion section may have the most returning vets in Coats history. 4 returning tenors + 4 returning basses + 5 returning snares + most of the front ensemble returning (5 of the 6 mallet pods) along with some OUTSTANDING new folks + Roger Carter and his techs returning + Tom Rarick returning = MUCH FUN IN CANTON!!!!
