  1. I remember marching BD in 92 and having a problem with the Freelancers....not because of placings but because a lot of my colleagues marched Freelancers and a few of us marched BD that year. I guess they felt like I was trying to prove something, but I wanted to march the colorguard and it was the first year they let men in the colorguard. In fact, I think other golleagues marched VK and SCV and had the same problem with the Freelancers. It wasn't a vicious problem because come finals night we were glad the California had a great representation in the top 12. That was a pretty competitive year and we realized that we were in it for the activity in the end.
  2. Hey now,.....I marched those years and help make the dice and paintbrushes....It was a different time..
  3. Garfield 1987 comes to mind. Weren't they loosing to Spirit of Atlanta early season and Spirit ended up at 10th at finals. SCV had an almost undefeated season that year also.
  4. I remember that show very well. I was in BD's colorguard and the only thing we wanted to do was beat their guard. We didn't think it was possible but BD won high colorguard that night. It is one of my favorite all around Cadet shows. We were such friendly rivals in during that era.
  5. I am going with my friend to Mira Mesa in San Diego
  6. I saw it here in Palm Springs. It was during the DVD releases of the week. It was short but cool to see it on EXTRA. I know people that work on that show. Well, they work for all those entertainment show in production. I was impressed.
  7. Ouch to say the least about BD getting 6th place brass tonight.... Yikes! Anybody agree with this? I wasn't there, so I am a bit surprised and exciting to see that this is going to be an exciting finals week!
  8. It depends on who is judging. I know some of the judges here in Southern California and who they tend to favor.
  9. I voted for 1978. I just started seeing the older shows of corps because of the Legacy series. I found that 1978 Bridgemen is the only show that I enjoy watching of that season. Just look at the colorguard, pretty ahead of its time.
  10. I think they just stayed on the field, facing back stage. I am not quite sure. they had quite a few changes that year. Most of which i found not too wise. Espcially changing the colorguard uniforms (they were in a spanish flamenco style costume in the early season). I did like their finals ending however.
  11. Lets not forget SCV doing Phantom of the Opera 1988 and 1989. Okay so the show looked quite different but wasn't the closer exactly the same... no big deal I guess.
  12. okay, these 2-7 pix are great...I lived in Lynn, Mass. for a couple of years and my job required me to go to Revere many times. Every time I went there, 27th lancers would cross my mind. It was just a cool thing for me being such a 2-7 fan. I marched BD but will always love what 27th lancers did and the legacy they left...especially colorguard wise..
  13. 27th Lancers, Reason why I joined colorguard... BD the one I was able to march by the time I was of age and where I lived... Cadets have some darn good years too. These days all the guards are incredibly advanced, it just is hard to say one is better than the other for what they are doing...
  14. Yeah, I just got the legacy 1978 DVD a couple of weeks ago...Never saw anything before 1982. BRIDGEMEN were the only one that left an impression on me...especially the colorguard uniforms Well, 27th Lancers always leaves an impression on me, too.
  15. I just purchased the 1988 DVD myself... I liked this year because i can watch all of the shows... I just started really getting the drum corps thing that year because Key Poulan was one of our band directors at the time and he helped me understand the history and the direction corps were going at the time.... I liked the Spirit of Atlanta show, I guess it was just the wrong show for them to present after being known for something completely different. Oh yeah and i thought of "guardguy89" when I watched Cavies..... :)
  16. hey do you still have these...I am very interested. especially in 1993...my age out year...let me know
  17. Star 1993 is my favorite..although, I believe 1991 was the hands down winning show. I also really liked 1989. I did not like 1987 at all. And Star was winning guard all season in 1993 until about finals week.. I remember how we at BD and CBC felt when they won high guard at preview of the champions. They were a great guard...one of my favorites.
  18. I just watched my video of 1989 because I of the new Phantom of the Opera movie. I used to skip over SCVs Show because I saw it so much during the season live. I really enjoyed Phatom Regiments show but I would always skip over the middle part of their show...Mainly the 2nd movement of Dvorak's 9th symphony....I know people liked the jazzed up thing but it really turned me off. But both show's endings were very exciting and still give me goosebumps. In my opinion I thought both shows had their problems but the Jazzed up 2nd movement just pushed my vote to SCV...I know that they did it well but It is just my opinion.
  19. OH Yeah...that is funny...I was watching that this morning too...and you are totally right. I knew he looked familiar... GEEZ
  20. I like watching all of the shows from 1982-1989. It was a time when you can notice a distinct style between the corps. I am not saying you can't see a difference in style today but it is not as obvious as it was in those years. You knew the difference, between a Garfield Drill from a SCV drill and a BD drill and so forth. I love the corps shows today but I really enjoy looking back at those years when the revolution just started.
  21. didn't the argonauts become a youth band in the early 90's? Yep I remember the Argonauts, and I know many people that remember the argonauts. You don't have to feel left out. :)
  22. You know what, I think it was the music that made this show kind of cool. It wasn't really that in your face until the end. I went to watch it again just yesterday. (this was my age out year) It was pretty unique for its time but not the winning show. However, it was my favorite of the year. Especially compared to the year they had before...... <**>
  23. Star 1993 is still one of my favorite shows. I was one that didnt really appreciate it until after the year was over. However, I was very impressed with their colorguard (they won the colorguard caption most of the year) It was a real slap in the face being from the Blue Devils but then again we couldnt say much for our performance at finals. :(
  24. 1986 was the first DCI championship I saw. Hence I ended up marching the Blue Devils in the early nineties when they let guys in the guard :) I always enjoy watching that year. The only show that doesn't sit well with me is Garfield's. Where is the colorguard. What were they thinking. Well they had a miraculous recovery. I didn't know 27th missed finals by a few tenths. It is the only year I really enjoyed the Cavaliers. I can't really distinguish there show from year to year afterwards. (well I remember the planets). Anyway BD was the winner that year hands down
