  1. I predict there will be many PB&J sandwiches eaten this summer.
  2. True dat. This is why DCI should avoid the NFL stadiums like the plague. Most of my best DCI memories are from University stadiums like Madison and Bloomington. They are usually much more accomodating and the campus areas are a great place to hang out.
  3. I have personally seen and heard every DCA and DCI corps this winter and they will all win their respective divisions this year with the most entertaining, professionally performed shows ever to grace the planet. Then I woke up .
  4. They're asking everyone to breath less often. Take every other minute off.
  5. No, he meant Madison in 11th. It's Blue Stars that have folded. Nobody is hearing a word out of La Crosse (or Indy for that matter). 2011 is just turning out to be a really bad year for the state of Wisconsin, I guess.
  6. The problem is that local circuits are no longer feasible. Let's look at a corps like Music City. Where would their local circuit be? How about Revolution? The Academy? Even corps like Teal Sound and Spirit of Atlanta would have an issue. There are no where near enough "local" corps in their areas. The cost of starting enough corps in all of the areas of the country that would need them just to fill the contests is more than the cost of the current touring model. And then there is the lack of interest. With the advent of competitive HS bands, etc., not enough people are interested in going through the time and expense of starting corps to populate the former "regional circuit" model. The past is gone. Drum Corps needs to live in the present and plan for a realistic future.
  7. I like bacon. Now back to your regularly-scheduled DCP argument.
  8. Kind of weird based on your post, but for me and everyone around me at semis, it was 1986 Troopers. Nobody believed that 27th had not made finals, with most figuring them to be either 9th or 10th at semis. When they were announced in 13th, there was a stunned silence in the crowd in Madison. When theie members came through the stands with their banner announcing the folding of the corps the next night at finals, there were a lot of tears in the stands too.
  9. Is it me, or does it seem like more corps than usual are holding off on their announcements this year compared to the last few? Blue Stars were early out of the gate last year and not one word has been said about them, Blue Devils, Blue Knights, Cavies, Colts, Crossmen, Jersey Surf all quiet as well, plus several that only have announced a title. Are the copyright laws catching up with the corps, or are they just holding back to build suspense?
  10. I like to predict by colors: All blue corps except Blue Saints will drop several places. All green corps will have a better year. Reds will be all over the map. Shades will be solid this year
  11. Blue Stars. Heard a tiny little audio snippet from their camp.
  12. Corps pay a huge amount in facility fees these days. I have been with corps that have paid anywhere from $500 - $4,000 per day for housing. Long gone are the days of using schools, etc. for free. PLUS, flying in educational staff and paying them for their time also needs to be included in the costs. There is no way corps can run camps for free by simply eliminating food setrvice. The members are the "owners" and have to be charged for these costs, otherwise we lose a lot more corps. Food is not the major cost of running a corps anymore.
  13. Gee, can you make your comments any bigger? I can't quite "hear" them.
  14. True dat. Now everyone is "all ga ga" about that corps from across the pond with the funny accents .
  15. That is expecting an aweful lot from a brand new staff and membership, given the fact that SCV came in 9th last year at Finals. Which lines do you feel PR can beat from last year's top 9? And why?
  16. Invalid poll. Does not include all of the possible lines. Doesn't even include the line that beat both Boston and SCV and has its multiple-World Championship winning staff returning: Blue Stars.
  17. I am totally shocked that there are no proposals this year from GH. When was the last time that happened?
  18. Agreed! Particularly since the lines of BD, Cadets, Crown, Cavies, and Blue Stars are all looking at consistency in staffs, and I have heard of at least one of these lines that has good vet retention numbers in all sections plus most of the rest of the line being filled by multi-year vets from other top lines. It is going to be really difficult for PR to bring in a whole new crew of staff and members and beat these other top 7 lines.
  19. I guess that the silence answers my questions. Has anybody heard anything about any new corps outside of the northeast this year?
  20. Have not seen anything on here about the new corps projects that were working in OK, KS and MO a while back. Any news on these? Why does it seem so hard for those areas to develop corps? Is it a lack of money, members, interest?
