  1. Calling Chris "The Lazer"... but yea, having do that killer drill and then step out for that little duet then jump back in...crazy. Not really a duet in the musical sense but the bluesy call and response section between the BD soloist and the colorguard and rest of the hornline in 2004 was AWESOME.
  2. Steve Vickers' first volume of "A History of Drum and Bugle Corps" has a lot of stuff, including an in depth article on the evolution of the bugle
  3. Summary: I like it when I like it and I don't like it when I don't like it, and DCI should change to what I say. Which is a summary of almost every argument about show design on DCP.
  4. The latest (5/13) CrownCast talks about how horn players have Smart Music assignments and percussionists have DVD recording assignments for winter camps at Crown. The staff says that these tools make the members much more prepared for camps, and the corps gets a lot more done in a weekend. Also I have heard of Cadets having "webinars" for sections between camps. How common is this kind of thing? I expect it will become more and more common as technology becomes more widespread. Even a few years ago when I marched, tape recorders were the standard for camp recordings, and those were of limited value. Now it seems like everyone has a laptop with Garage Band and a microphone, so it's easier to make higher quality recordings. In addition, most universities have somewhere you can borrow a video camera, so video recordings are becoming more and more common; I know Blue Stars required a marching video for a winter camp because I saw two kids at my school recording theirs one day. So, how is your corps using technology to further preparation? How much does it really help? I wonder if this is just a thing in corps like Crown or if it is becoming the norm. If it's just one or two corps, do you think it will translate into a competitive advantage? If you have technology-related assignments like SmartMusic recordings between camps, what all do the assignments involve?
  5. BD, Cavies, Cadets and a sprinkling of PR consistently present the best drum corps shows
  6. What no one has yet addressed is the fact that synthesizers are largely being used to add colors and textures to the ensemble, not to replace sections.
  7. I highly doubt they'd have a regional that close to Indy, and besides, Bluecoats already have a nice place for their home show (Massillon). What I don't get is that website--you can't even tell what the field is for.
  8. Anyone have it play one video but then do nothing the next time you try to watch another video?
  9. Great content, cluster#### interface, but I bought
  10. This just a real ###### considering DCI basically built their plans over the next 10 years around this Indy deal...and spent all that time and effort telling everyone how great the deal would be and how wonderful it'd be for everything.......
  11. Pittsburgh Mills Cinemark...I'll either be with a friend I marched Capital with or my mom.
  12. Yea, there is a lot of ethnocentrism in drum corps, but I think it's just a natural byproduct of becoming part of each group and steeped in its ways, traditions, and history... And tour googles = fact.
  13. Yep, webcasts are worth it. Had a great Fnet experience last summer, will do again.
  14. Piffle. Marched with him in '04. Cadets don't give a #### about seeing-type glasses of any type, but sunglasses are out, shows OR rehearsals.
  15. And tubas in June of 2006 and 2008. And July of 2005 and 2006...
  16. Fortunately I am farsighted, and my vision is pretty good even without glasses, so I did every rehearsal and show without glasses. Reading music was a little more strenuous but thankfully you don't really do that on tour much. Not wearing glasses on the field went from a choice to the only choice when George Hopkins accidentally stepped on my glasses when he came in the gym to wake us in early 2006. CRUNCH.
