  1. The fact that it took the victim reporting this publicly before DCI and Spirit would reveal their actions on this is incomprehensible and indefensible. Especially considering we’re a couple of months into the audition season. Or perhaps that was their point?
  2. As the phrase goes, a day late and a dollar short. Both them and DCI.
  3. Unfortunately, their response seems to concentrate solely on the talent night events. However, the reported sexual assaults are way beyond “misconduct” and seem to be getting lost in the discussion. (I’d also argue that the term poorly captures the severity of the talent night events as well.)
  4. I’ll also say, in regards to the actual thread topic, that my outsider’s perspective (which it basically is, after all these years) is that the corps really has tried to be a inclusive place to teach and march. And I know three people on the board, that I happened to march with, that are of the highest order and would never be okay with anything otherwise. So I feel confident that it will be dealt with and addressed appropriately. I know nothing beyond the linked statement, which is just one side of the story. There are, I’m sure, details which we aren’t privy to and, for reasons of privacy, etc., the corps can’t publicly go into, at least in terms of specifics. It’s just an assumption on my part, but I think it’s probably not far off. (BTW, I’m not intending to discount what the person reporting this said. Just that it’s likely not a complete picture either.) edit: I came back to re-read my post on this. I think I worded this very poorly but will leave my words as is, but offer the following clarification. When I made reference to “one side of the story” I was thinking in terms of whether or not the corps had taken any steps to address the issue and that maybe the victim might not have been aware of. But, as I read it now, I can see how it could come across as doubting what they said occurred and that was not, is not, my intention. Still, probably a dumb thing to say. I’ll try to choose my words more carefully. (And, honestly, as I reflect on it again, I think there’d have been room to discuss it at least in some way publicly, by now.)
  5. I once got ordered by Tony Hall to get off the field— and I totally earned it. I, um, told our drum major (Tzar Nikk on DCP) to “p*** off!” during a rehearsal. From the end zone. Thank God he let me back on, after I profusely explained, and apologized for, the error of my ways.
  6. You should’ve heard some things Brazale said in rehearsals. My God. He was legend (and I’m still proud to have had the privilege of marching under him) but… some of it was pretty cringy. And definitely wouldn’t fly today. (Shouldn’t have then, either.)
  7. Yeah, I’m really curious how they would’ve fared. (I’ve often wondered the same about my kid’s band, Reagan, in 2019. They edged out Vandergrift in SA but it wasn’t a planned Indy year for them either.)
  8. This year’s 6A champion, Hebron, was amazing. Truly corps-like. Too bad they didn’t attend BOA Championships this year.
  9. Congratulations! I still remember the relief of passing WREB. Hard to believe it’s been seven years now.
  10. Same here. (Fingers crossed for you.) What’s even more frustrating is I’ve read that there are now surpluses of vaccine in Texas; it seems as though interest in getting it might be waning. I don’t get it.
  11. I got my second dose on February 2. Most of the other dentists I know got theirs even sooner. (I was starting to feel left out, LOL.) I read somewhere that Moderna is supposedly working on a booster but I haven’t read anything in detail about it yet. I’m cautiously optimistic that DCI can have some semblance of normalcy by next season. Fingers crossed.
  12. The Pfizer vaccine has been approved for 16 and up and the Moderna for 18 and up.
  13. I still haven’t heard anything definite yet on how/when/where Texas dentists will get access to the vaccine. Hopefully we’ll hear something soon.
  14. Such sad news and a huge loss for the activity. RIP.
  15. I said the same. The directors need to show some backbone and permanently kick his ### to the curb.
  16. How about the member corps voting for a lifetime ban from the activity?
  17. I’m disappointed for his victims that the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. I can only hope he simply fades away into drum corps history. (Though I doubt he will.) He deserves no more attention or time in the spotlight. Or anything from the activity, really. Just stay away, please.
  18. Boy do I feel for all those involved. We would’ve been heartbroken if this had happened last fall, during our daughter’s senior year.
  19. I went to go pick up some takeout food last night and wore a mask as I walked into the side entrance (next to the bar) from the outside patio area and was harassed by some jack*** the entire way. Abbreviated version: First he kept trying to offer me to eat from his bowl of tortilla chips— “Just take your mask off. Why are you wearing a mask? Are you afraid of the COVID?” He and his buddy start to laugh. “No, I wear it for the same reason I wear a seat belt, because I actually have some common sense.” “Aw, c’mon, I’m just being funny.” [as I kept walking] “No, you’re not, and I **** sure don’t care what you think about it.” He just kept laughing as I went inside. Later, he made a point to laugh and wave at me as I was getting into my car with the food— I opened the door back up a bit, stepped out, gave a big wave in return, with a smile, and said, “Go **** yourself.” It had been a long day and I was NOT in the mood.
  20. Actually the worst I probably won’t mention by name here. But Regiment alums know.
  21. Endless PB&J sandwiches at Sky Ryders, where the summer heat usually melted the peanut butter into a soupy mess that had to be poured onto the bread.
  22. That’s not exactly how I’ve heard it. But close enough. 🙂
