  1. I'll say this about incomplete* shows...If I think it's likely there will be incomplete ones in an early season competition, I'm a lot less likely to bring a newbie to it. *(When I say "incomplete", to me at least, there's a huge difference between shows where drill and/or music isn't 100% on the field vs. CHANGES in drill and/or music between Show 1 and Indy. To me, the latter scenario doesn't mean the show is "not finished," while the former does. I don't consider them the same topic at all, but clearly there's some debate out there about this.)
  2. Love it otherwise, but...same. I think it's really the combo of the short sleeves and gauntlets that just looks awkward to me.
  3. Looks a bit like Techno Future Spartacus! I don't have the right words for that headgear...
  4. Not many of the new ones this year are symmetrical, are they?
  5. Well...just for the record, my post was intended to be about as serious as ChuckH's...
  6. Oh please. I'd set a camera timer on a Polaroid, toss it straight up in the air, catch the camera, and then synchronize a catch of the picture as it slowly drifted down in the wind a few yards away from where I took the shot in the direction I was marching. All while I spun a rifle.
  7. Looks like they'll be using their drone fleet to deliver Hebrew National hotdogs to corps members directly on the field as they play! Saves valuable rehearsal time currently wasted on meal breaks!
  8. We've been hearing various narration drone on and on for years! If a heavy enough drone lands on a horn player, it'll turn anything into a B-flat! How about putting small wireless amps on drones and zipping them around for true "surround sound?" Legalizing drones during performance would give us just what we need...more designers with their head in the clouds. (On my only even remotely serious note, I am utterly wowed by how stable a camera platform those things are. Very cool!)
  9. Or maybe they START with an all black uniform and then put the white part ON... But probably not. ;)
  10. I absolutely, positively wish nothing but the best for each of these corps. But this is a song we've heard a number of times of before. If even five of these corps are still touring around (even limited tours) with strong finances five years from now, then I'll be excited. If all seven are, so much the better. Still, just to balance out my cynicism...Even if the future is uncertain, seven new corps is better then no new corps!
  11. New Drum Major outfit? Actually, I guess it'd make more sense to require judges to wear it... Looks like the topic has been hijacked by Trekkies. This will not end well... But back to BK, I am curious what they'll look like against a green field (not to mention the black curtain at Indy.) The background in the photo didn't exactly give us much contrast.
  12. The winter show was some years ago. So winter isn't coming...IT'S HERE!
  13. They're just so...so...They're extremely......,They're not very... Sorry, I got nothing. I'm still kind of in shock. And not the good kind.
  14. There might not be "superstars," but in any given year there's still a significant buzz going (on here at least) if word gets around of an exceptional soloist. Since a solo is the only "superstar" element that one could really focus on, (It makes no sense to picture a fan going "Dude, you HAVE to check out this kid's marching!" or "Have you heard his/her playing the same part as everyone in his section? They're AMAZING!") it seems pretty logical to me that this element isn't something DCI sees much of.
  15. "Presenting their 2014 show, 'Soooo, on Sunday we're gonna be announcing something you'll want to hear more about, hashatag just sayin,' CAROLINA CROWN!" Can't wait for all the shows this year entitled "No Comment," too!
  16. BOOM! There's got to be a convenient word for when you get schooled by someone who unbeknownst to yourself turns out to be a seriously expert authority. Or maybe it's just schooled. ;)
  17. This is becoming an incredibly detailed scenario... An exciting campaign of the hit role-playing game, DCI Admin D&D, featuring Stu as Dungeon Master! I'm not a business oriented person for anything bigger then our family budget, so my one and only other comment would be to have the Chairperson with the highest XP to get out their Calender of Touring and cast a shortening spell (DC 8, no saving throw.)
  18. I don't think they're perfect, but I'll still take them over last year's any day.
  19. Loved that one, make no mistake, but I'll still take '92 Crossmen over it. When the brass kicks back in after the drum break is one of my all time favorite DCI moments. Such energy from such a great melody... I get chills every time!
  20. I'm always a little skeptical of how uniforms that have any sort of intricately shaped design will translate from afar, but with the fade I think Boston's most definitely going to get the best of both worlds (looking great both from up close and from up high.) Excited to see this one in action!!
  21. The secret society has made them immortal?! Oh dear... "Presenting their 2015 show, TOTAL WORLD DOMINATION..."
  22. Slightly silly question...Is this list the shows that ranked 12th place at their Finals performances or the 12th place shows that got these corps INTO finals? (Ranked 12th place from their Semis score) I'm guessing the former?
  23. "Audience Engagement" vs. "Engaged the Audience?" Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight................ The differences between the two make sense on the explanation sheet to me (if, from what I understand, the repertoire side is the "what" and the performance side is the "how effectively,") but if you only look at those two headings, they really need to come up with some more nuanced phrasing to differentiate them from each other.
