  1. And a case study like Madison is a perfect example of how there is almost always something else going on besides instructional staff. I would venture a guess that most of the time, it is something like the administrative staff. What many people don't realize is the value and importance of a solid, cohesive, and well put together, well organized, and supportive administrative staff. Other factors could be not seeing a huge jump after two years, only the first year. Could be the media/recruiting side of things (that ultimately comes back to admin, somewhat in conjunction with instructional staff...but mainly admin). Could be something with the contracted members and the numbers that are able to move in on time, especially with more and more schools getting out late, not letting kids off for finals, etc etc...just some thoughts.
  2. Oh, its a great number, to be sure!! And I'm sure (at least I hope) that they and most other corps getting huge numbers recommend people who don't make the cut elsewhere that struggle to get those kinds of numbers. I will say, though, also, that if I were recommending some place for someone to go, I would want to make sure that it is a good experience. Now...some of those corps that struggle to get good numbers, do they really provide a true world class experience? Great instruction, admin, travel, housing, food, logistics, etc, etc? There's so much that goes into providing a quality experience. Definitely looks like Crossmen have that kind of experience down, because they are consistently getting those great numbers to turn out! Look forward to some great things from them this summer.
  3. Is it just me, or does it seem like they report "record numbers 300+" at San Antonio every year? You'd think if it were record numbers year after year, they'd up the number over 300...325? 350?
  4. It's been that way for years now. Back in 2007 the show was elsewhere because the stadium was being renovated. I don't remember exactly what year it moved back to the Manning "Bowl", but definitely by 2011, and has been there ever since.
  5. Crossmen 2012, Troopers 2009, Blue Knights 2014
  6. If I remember the part in question, they're yelling "red light" and "green light." You know, like the game red light green light.
  7. Same in 2008 with Madison having a lower score than Crossmen had on semifinals night. And in 2012 Crossmen had a lower score finals night than Blue Stars at semifinals. 2013 Blue Stars were lower than Troopers at semifinals. Its something that you'll often see when its a tight race for 12th.
  8. The Crossmen family is definitely hurting today. Alumni and guard staff member Michelle Owens just passed away. Please keep the corps, and especially the guard members and staff in your thoughts and prayers.
  9. Wait...so do you know something that the rest of us don't? SCV is coming east for the 4th of July for their 50th? AWESOME!
  10. July 2nd and 3rd, that way its a 4th of July Florida tour. Gotta make sacrifices, either New England or Midwest 4th of July tour will be gone.
  11. I would think at almost all corps the intern positions are unpaid, and those positions that are paid are given different titles. Things such as "administrative assistant," "tour assistant," "administrative staff" This way it allows for a distinction between paid and unpaid positions, and allows corps to bring in more people by having both paid and unpaid positions.
  12. Interesting, seeing as last year their hornline was one of the ones who played the least and had the most percussion exposure compared to other groups.
  13. You really shouldn't stress yourself out so much. Success builds on success. Corpsman had a great season this year. Highest scores and placement since 2003. They are under great leadership and are a solid and financially stable corps. They have a very competent and capable staff. Trust your corps and help them succeed rather than complaining and worrying all the time.
  14. I predict that if the Cadets 2017 thread continues at the rate it's going, it will be close to 2,000 pages by the time finals rolls around.
  15. That's one of the things that made me LOVE this show musically. For those who are familiar with the piece and/or the Crossmen 2002 arrangement of Heat of the Day, there's the great build up to what would be a great opening impact. But then they fake you out and take it to a short percussion break and come back in with a great impact from a totally different part of the original chart. When I first saw the show in theaters at the tour premier, I was like "here it comes!"-"wait...what?"-"ooooh, cool!" Then at Allentown there were a bunch of people around me who must have been seeing the show for the first time who expressed audible disappointment at the fake-out.
  16. The past few years, the 12th place corps has been at 6:11, I believe, so you can use that as a guide.
  17. What judges? Let me just say (as has already been stated) that I find it absolutely ridiculous that there is a partial panel at this point in the season. Prelims is ONE WEEK AWAY! There hasn't been a partial panel in about a month, since around July 4th area, and it is August 4th. So...yeah...I'm just going to ignore these scores. I'll wait to see what happens Friday/Saturday in Allentown.
  18. Has anyone done the calculations on the spreads that various corps need to get in Allentown to make the broadcast/other placements yet?
  19. Yes, I am. You know why? Because I LOVE a number of the top shows, and I also enjoy a number of the lower shows and want to see them as much as I can and enjoy them while they last, because guess what? After semifinals day, they're gone. Done. Not coming to DVD/Blu-Ray into my home because DCI won't make them. And that's very unfortunate. There are some years (2014 comes to mind, in particular) where the non-finalist shows are all incredible. So I want to enjoy every show while I can.
  20. From what I heard, BD had an absolutely terrible run in Houston, so that scoring is quite possibly warranted, as judges are supposed to call it like they see it that night.
  21. The difference is that those who were in place for the past decade were not truly working to rebuild the corps on the financial side. You can't truly successfully rebuild competitively if you don't have the solid financial footing to provide a great experience, pay staff on time, and bring in better people. At least now there are people in place who have their priorities in line. Competitive success does not always indicate financial and administrative success and stability, either. These things don't happen overnight. You can try telling it like it is objectively without all the negative connotations.
  22. Well, DCI helps perpetuate the "If it's not top 12, it doesn't matter" in much of their marketing, and the fact that they don't have non finals dvd's anymore. And that even before then the non-finalists were only multi-cam with no high cam or anything.
