  1. Isn't there a rule on DCP about not interrupting the adults while they are posting?
  2. Here's my take on booing - it's disrespectful, but hey, we covered all this last year and we all went on about our right to act in a certain way... If someone booed during ANY national anthem to show their displeasure at a governments actions it would be deemed disrespectful and you could fully expect to get lynched. If I turn up at your kids nativity play and boo because I don't like the script/use of props/choice of carols I would get thrown out. When you sit next to me and boo my son and his friends after all the hard work they put into their program this summer then fully expect me to ask you which corps you like and just as they begin their show I will stand up and obstruct your view. Heck, I may even fart in your face for good measure.
  3. Blue Devils - Always classy and stylish - love the upper hornline. Cadets - Best hornline out there (IMO). Always leave me wanting more. Their drill is insane. PR - the last 3 years they've really upped their game for me - deserved better last year. SCV - intense. Cavies - they make nice shapes. Troopers - Just gotta love em! Tradition personified. Spirit - The reason I fell in love with drum corps way back when. Crown - another fantastic hornline. Great power behind those chops! Bluecoats - could listen to their lower hornline all day - very talented bunch. Pioneer - no matter what, they're always there and always look like they're lovin every minute of it Mandarins - always entertaining. I respect and admire the effort everyone puts on the drum corps field - with or without narration.
  4. Wow - just wow! There's something disturbing in the amount of pent up anger/frustration/bitterness you feel towards one man. Even after reading your post I still can't quite fathom why you've taken his remarks/decisions/ethics/philosophy so personally. I cannot agree with the notion that each year this man thinks of a show concept just to p*** people off. I'd like to believe your dislike for GH has something to do with the fact you love the activity so much, but I fear it's something a bit deeper than that. Nonetheless I think we get the message there is no love in your house for GH! On the issue of narration, I agree it can be a distraction. Even as a fan of the Cadets I found it's use in 2007 too much and as is only right, I will reserve my judgement for 2008. My honest opinion - I wish they wouldn't use it so much. However, my respect for the amount of talent in the 2007 Cadet's hornline was not blinkered by the over use of narration. I was still able to enjoy the power and intensity that attracted me to the corps in the first place. I sat through QF SF and finals last year and there were 2-3 programs I couldn't get into, but I didn't sulk about it and think "I hope they don't make finals because I didn't like the way..." We all have a "right" to set out our opinions etc, but for goodness sake, lets get a sense of perspective here. These are just KIDS trying to entertain us just as I did when I marched.
  5. In order of preference Madison 88 - Makes me smile every time I hear it. I can't help but tap those feet and really get into the feel of it...timeless Cadets 05 - great tone...and the intonation is top draw. SVC 89 - again - timeless. Bring on more bari solos - please!
  6. In order 2005 - Cadets 2000 - Cadets 2007 - Cadets 2007 - Crown 2005 - Phantom 2007 - Bluecoats 2007 - Phantom 2004 - Cavies 2006 - Phantom 2007 - Spirit
  7. The 2008 Santa Clara Vanguard presents... "3HREE" The Chairman Dances (Foxtrot for Orchestra) by John Adams The Man in the Bath by Philip Glass Cloudburst by Eric Whitacre
  8. 1987 Garfield Cadets... best "company front" push...EVER!!!!!!!!! HM's to 91 Star 89 SCV '99 SCV '83 Garfield '05 Cadets
  9. Cadets 2007 - Best hornline I've ever heard. Pure class. HM's Star 93, BD '83 & 84.
  10. Percussion - Phantom Brass - Cadets Guard - ???????
  11. Are you kidding me? Downtown Pasadena was well within walking distance of the Rose Bowl. I rode the metro to Memorial Park for the 3 days and walked from there. As you said great weather as well.
  12. Pioneer to play...................RIVERDANCE! Would be awaesome.
  13. SCV - '99 Cadets - 07 Both incredibly intricate trumpet features - hard to choose between them.
  14. I ain't anti Cavies, but I gotta agree with you - they were just plain dull in '07. The rolling around was irritating! For me "fan friendly" would have to mean easy to follow and entertaining so here goes... 1. Crown - great show concept, well executed and easy to understand what the corps was trying convey to the audience (well earned/deserved Disney award). Best ballad by a country mile! 2. Bluecoats - entertaining with nice subtle comedy moments. The laser and silent guard features were class moments in the show. Lower brass were just awesome. 3. Phantom - Musically this had everything for me - powerful brass with some real nice touches in the flower duet. 4. Cadets - this corps had the best hornline (IMHO) and the intricate drill (again IMHO) was superb. 5. Troopers - fan friendly cos they're the Troopers! Can't help but love 'em!
  15. "Don't bash the kids" - "DCI is about the kids, we need to support them" These are all sentiments I totally agree with. Its just a shame you had to bash the Cadets by implying "new crap from Cadets per usual." You may well have wanted this reaction (sad if you did) but your remarks are classless and unfortunately (IMO) discredits anything relevent you brought to this discussion. Shame on you. People talk about you thirdcoast as someone who is passionate about drum corps - I don't doubt that for one moment and all credit to you for the work you do for Madison. However attacks on other corps like the one you made here smacks of hypocrisy and do nothing for your reputation.
  16. Thanks weedy! Your opinion of me counts as much as mine does about thirdcoast. However you have no idea what my opinion of thirdcoast is, since I didn't resort to name calling. I merely asked if anyone knew what he was talking about. If you look at my first posting I admired his passion for his corps. However, I still don't fully see his point. You think I'm a jerk and I still don't understand what he was trying to say. Maybe that's because I'm not as intelligent as you are - does that really make me a jerk? According to you it does.
  17. WTF? Can anyone else understand this? Who is the story aimed at? I hope there is more, because you're entertaining if nothing else!
  18. Gotta be CROWN. They had a great show last year - still amazes me they finished where they did.
  19. Kudos to thirdcoast for the emotion - you're obviously very passionate about your corps and why not - they have a great tradition. I'm just wondering whether or not you've had a few too many beers tonight? "To the others that did not believe in his vision yea yea yea you know who you are, hopkins, gibbs, downey, and all you others you know who you are were here and here we come." Not cool.
