  1. be careful about thinking hips behind the shoulders, it can lead to a ghetto butt. Ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, ears all in a perpendicular line to the floor (look in the mirror). Engaged abs (touch just below your solar plexus is it firm?) leading to a tucked in hip. Relaxed shoulders and arms especially when you get fatigued. Hips are the trickiest. Imagine the top of your hips being the brim of a bucket filled with water, momma needs water to make dinner and you don't want to spill any. Ghetto butt spills water down your front. Lazy butt spills water down your crack, level makes your momma happy. As for holding horn, work your tris, delts, and full back (trap, lats, ect) biceps might not be a bad idea as well. Ideally you want minimal use of your back muscles but as you get fatigued your body will start to rely more on your back muscles and if you don't have those worked up then you're just asking yourself for trouble. Holding your horn is an endurance game so do as many sets of long slow reps until you fatigue try these every other day, you can do core and legs on the off days. You may want to consider whey protein for an immediate post-workout supplement. Make sure you are running if you already aren't it will help tremendously in the long run.
  2. I was fortunate enough to have the rare double seat every year I marched. Generally I would let someone else use the other seat and I would cozy up with a pillow on a window. But there were a couple nights I would take both seats and prop my feet up against the arm rest across the aisle. I fall asleep fast and hard so I've been fine with almost any sleeping situation.
  3. Has DCI been contacted regarding this situation yet?
  4. Acecannon: As a former marching member of the Cascades I'd just like to say that I think you underestimate the strength of the members. I can say without doubt that scores do not mentally fatigue corps members as much as you may think. Sure it's disappointing when you get scored lower than you want but it's only a motivating factor to become better. I cannot compare the experiences that OC and Cascades have had this season to say that OC had higher corps morale or "winner's fever" but I know that Cascades have done great things this season with the show that they were given. I will welcome them back home as champions because every year they have achieved more and more organizational goals set prepare them for success. Oregon Crusaders: Congratulations on your achievements this year!
  5. Cascades are staying at Tri High School in Straughn Tri High School 6972 South SR 103, Straughn, IN
  6. Vanguard just hired a new brass caption head not too long ago. I want to say this is his first year teaching Vanguard brass. Personally, I felt that the previous brass caption head, Andre Feagin, achieved phenomenal success with SCV. The hornline had a great rich, dark, orchestral sound that hit you like a train when they let it out. But, the shows in the last years have largely exercised great restraint with volume. Particularly if the shows are only seen on video, I could see a perception of weakness within the brass. LoveKathyG, I think at this moment we can say that over the season the corps' brass has gotten better. And we may hope to see the corps building on their successes from this season to produce greater results next year.
  7. DCI Scores I think I can safely call Revolution our DCI Champion now.
  8. garfield- it's a higher quality feed. DCI is recommending an internet speed of 2 mbps for best viewing of this feed.
  9. I know Cascades do it. I also know troop used to do it in 08 I don't know about now though.
  10. It's the feathers that are attached to the shakos. BD wears them along with most other corps except scouts, cavs, scv, troop, crossmen, and pioneer (am I missing any?).
  11. I'm enjoying that the whole show is being rebroadcast right now. If anyone missed the earlier shows now's the time to catch them!
  12. I would say its easier to record and master the audio on a computer at home then to try to recreate the same sound with a live vocalist running through several effects programs/pedals. It adds bulk, decreases dependability, costs more money, and makes less sense.
  13. Well as far as I know, many corps have staff in the stands on the phone or with a walkie talkie that they use to talk to the staff member that's controlling sound. I think last year there were instances were staff members were wirelessly controlling audio via ipad. This was before the rule proposal I believe. It may have happened because the staff was simply in an inconvenient spot or the speakers were pointed directly at the mics but sounded fine in the stands.
  14. I don't know about other corps but when I marched we were told that it was a DCI rule because housing sites have reported blown fuses and such. I don't know if this is a DCI rule for sure so it would be wise to double check before jumping to conclusions. As for enforcement, DCI has confidence in it's member corps. There are many rules that aren't directly monitored by DCI but are maintained by the corps management.
  15. DCI specifically has a rule that addresses this issue. I think it's one powerstrip for one wall plug.
  16. I just ran across this posting on the Cascades website and I thought it might be appropriate to share with the rest of DCP. Thankfully, no one was injured but I hope that most of the corps' equipment is alright. By the looks of it the cost to repair that will be pretty substantial. I'll be looking for more updates. Edit: Cascades Website: Here's the link to the article with a photo of the damage
  17. I've had some fantastic naps on pre-show bus rides. Not to say my corps promoted napping before shows...
  18. Cascades just released a full image of their new uniform.
  19. I always liked the cadet's t-shirt designs. Vanguard usually has at least one good one too (albeit too expensive for me to want to buy).
  20. It seems like the lower you place in finals the less information you put out.
  21. I know a person who started accutane in January and marched the season. But if he just started that means he hasn't finished getting through the initial effects of it which means it'll be worse for him until his body recovers. Honestly, it's impossible to keep your body clean while on tour. With the added hassle of having that sensitive skin all summer. I would just say postpone starting until August. It's not worth the hassle. If he insists on keeping some sort of regimen going, try talking to the doctor about medications that won't leave him as sensitive to the sun. There may be an unexplored alternative that can be used.
  22. The other issue with this is that in-ear monitors will effectively make every marching member deaf in on ear. When listening responsibilities are so critical on the field this could be absolutely detrimental to the production. I think one thing that that is under utilized is visual representations of the beat. Understandably, the drum majors and field conductors carry the load here but if we have a gink and battery running together with the met why not have a blink going with the tempo right next to the drum major? Not only would it instantly clean up beat placement in the conductor's pattern it would also give instant feedback for timing responsibilities throughout the field. It would also help to draw the member's attention towards the conductor when the met is silent. It plays with the whole multiple presentations for different learners concept. When something is presented in more than one method it is much more likely to stick with the viewer (marching members).
  23. Well, depending on where your alldays are situated. You'll most likely be shiny with sweat at any time of the day pretty much all season long.
  24. New socks are never underappreciated especially towards weeks 5/6 Just make sure they are the same size and type. Personally, I use no-show socks but I know people who use shin length socks.
