  1. This. I love the Blue Devils show this year but it's hard to judge at some points. There's a big difference between having an entire corps do unison body work, and having free form movement. In unison, a person slightly off is noticeable and the scores can and will reflect that (box 5 means EVERYONE), but in a free form blob, there's no set definition, so the corps can't be hurt by it. There's a time and place for it (opening of this year's BD show is perfect), but multiple times almost seem lazy, as in "well, you can't judge this form, this one, and this one because they're blobs representing the corps kookiness". That said, I will be happy to see anybody win if their show is engaging, and the top 4 all meet this quality.
  2. Just to help, "(re) Framed" is a musical play on different themes from "Pictures at an Exhibition" mixed into some old Scout tunes, such as "Malaguena" in the closer. And the piece from "Pictures" towards the end is "The Great Gate of Kiev", hence why they call the giant rotating line "The Great Gate"
  3. Honestly? There's a 130+ kids getting on a bus tomorrow who have paid over 2000 dollars and hours of blood, sweat, and tears who will be home this time next week. I would ask one of them about how much you can trust the organization to deliver.
  4. Again, does anyone know if Teal will reimburse any of their fees? Or did the members pay 2000 in tuition and more in spring training and uniform fees for 3 weeks of tour?
  5. Agree to disagree. If you've been in my shoes, went through 4 weeks of move-ins, 2 weeks of shows, July 4th parades, then a broken leg sends you home early and you watch someone else march your dot on the DVD, you feel robbed of the full experience. Much like I'm sure the members of teal are feeling right now.
  6. Does anyone know if their members are getting any tour fees back? Or are they out 2000 each for a 2 week tour?
  7. Yes. But only if it's also The Indiana Scouts. And The Troopers' road home lead them to Lebannon Indiana (suburb of Indianapolis). But I'm guessing you just don't know the full story, so I'll give you a pass. Yes, the corps spends winter camps/ most of move ins in Indiana, but after that they take a week in LaCrosse, practicing in the stadium, getting a laundry day to explore, go door to door selling raffle tickets, and preforming for the minor league baseball team. As a former member, I will always think of LaX fondly.
  8. Marched King for 2 summers. Bought King Marching trumpet for personal marching band use. Still have my "Kings of the Field" shirt...... Was disappointed I couldn't take the Jupiter trumpet home with me after camp. Tell you enough?
  9. Tables from BS went towards something....
  10. We all know corps typically do something different or add something new for championship week. So will these be the changes? No. But it'd be awesome if I was right. Note: all meant in good fun. 12) Glassmen After being passed by Madison at Semi's, the Glassmen pull out a Pope Uniform for the DM to really push the prayer theme. At the end of the last note, the members actually pray together to pass Madison/BK. However, they still finish 12th. 11) BK Blue Knights throw in a head nod with a *ding* at the end of every moment. 10) Madison Scouts Madison ending has an addition 3 minute Malguena section that brings down Lucas Oil. Absolutely amazing. I mean, Bristol Palin re-re engages that dude to replace the baby she just through. The corps scores a 99.5, but with the time penalty deduction, finishes tenth. 9) Boston Boston does their show. One of the few I haven't seen so I can't think of anything. 8) SCV Vanguard decides that their quote-unquote "abrupt ending" should change. So it abruptly changes... TO THE BOTTLE DANCE! 7) Blue Stars At the end of the show, Houdini steps into the box and it opens to reveal... THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA FROM SCV 1989!!!!!! 6th) PR The color guard/ drums set up as normal, and the show starts. However the Hornline never shows. Amazingly, Houdini has magically gotten rid of Phantom's Hornline, who is all found at the riverwalk in San Antonio still thinking there's 3 weeks left in the season. However, the drums are so amazing they still finish 6th 5th) Cadets Tragedy strikes as during warm-up, Little Jeffery is run over by a car chasing a red bouncy ball into the street. George quickly writes a script about a Toy soldier named Sarah who broke 7 toy soldier's hearts, but settles instead on a depressed trumpet player who just wanted to play with his toys. 4th) Cavies The Cavaliers go so insane, they just end the show at the end of the year of the rifle section and just run off the field. 3rd) Carolina Crown Crown's new ending after the Mahler? Reprise of Puck from last year, now that they have a screamer who can hit the high note. Also, the female guard soloist rides a cream colored horse into greener pastures in the search of a better ending. Also, love. 2nd) Bluecoats Bluecoats ending gets exponentially louder as more and more marchers playing the last chord come out of the tunnels. Not only is the show from the future, so are the addition members! That's right, members from future bluecoat corps travel through time to blow down the house! 1st) Blue Devils The Blue Devils run behind the mirrors, remove their jackets, and come down front to blow down the house with "When a Man Loves a Woman". All haters fall in love, and BD scores 99.20
  11. No brass judge at Fairfax, scores were just doubles of the music ensemble score.
  12. Averages: Crown: 73.075 Cadets: 72.5 Cavies: 70.75
  13. You won't to tell me I didn't work hard enough? You want to tell me my experiences aren't worth as much as those in the G7? Honestly? You think I didn't strive everyday to scratch and pull at they're backs, oh wait, I pulled Phantom back last year. Explain that.
  14. We need a non G7 director to stand up against this and have the rest rally behind them. Defend their corps and ask for proof just why these 7 corps are better then the rest. Tell that to BC and BS last year. Tell that to Crown in 2006. Tell that to Glassmen 2000. Bluecoats 2001.
  15. Ditto all of this. A lot of us are simply recent or soon to be age outs who jumped at the possibility of spreading our knowledge. I too was never asked for references or a resume, just sent a quick e-mail expressing my interest and then was added on. Good thing this teching job was my planned backup plan for next summer, so I can focus now on aging out.
  16. 1 Crown- Show design plus music plus large incoming auctioneers from experienced drum corps members = hopeful comparison to Star 91. 2 BD- These guys are just too good. Expected a tight show with more demanding moments than 09, which hurts them into second. 3 Cadets- Like 09, toughest show in DCI. Unfortunately, again like 09, too tough. fan favorite behind crown, of course 4 SCV- Hard to follow up a great 4th place show. Still needs work in visual program. 5 Bluecoats - hated last years show, but loved 07 and 08. Hopefully a return to a simpler story and a better placement. 6 Blue Stars - to stay where they were, they had to be better than the year before. With the staff set in, show announcement done, this corps has their stuff together and is gonna come out charging. 7 Phantom - Returning back to form? Hopefully. Last years corps was so dirty from up close, and didn't get to clean till the last 3 works. We know, it's tough to follow Sparticus. But you have to. 8 Cavaliers - the corps is slipping. I still see a cavies uniform and think "perfection". Then I watch the show, and I realize, no more. Will not fall out of finals though, how long till another ring? maybe 5/6 years down the road. Need to settle in and work, just like Crown did. 9 Boston- 08-too hard. 09- too easy. 10- just right? 10 BK- liked 09 better than any other recent show.. keep that up 11 Madison- all star staff. coming back. 12 Too hard to guess.
  17. Here's a fun question; did you feel the same way when people yelled #$%^ at The Cadets in 06/07? Is it not okay for a staff member to yell "Holy Name" when they spell out HNC, but okay for the audience to tell Alice she's in Madison?
  18. I recently was marching my 3rd summer with a top 12 corps when during a rehearsal day, I developed a leg pain that made backwards marching hurt like no other pain. Taken to an urgent care, they said "Achillies Tendon injury", which I took 3 days off of and then got back in, marching rehearsal and the show that night. Finishing it, I could hardly walk, and had to come home where upon further examination, I have a stress fracture in my tibia, and must spend the next 3/4 weeks in crutches. My question is for anyone else who's ever had to leave a season early do to injury. How do you deal with the emptiness of not marching, and accept the fact that even though you did all the hard work of move-ins and the start of tour, you won't be a part of that corps on the dvd?
  19. I forgot the part where you have the ability to look in the future and see that the Blue Stars have props, narration, and a synth. Or did I miss the part in the video where they said they would have those things? Just saying, don't assume the worse.
  20. Haha, I hear that as a joke the members sometimes call themselves "Tarpon Springs Drum and Bugle Corps"
  21. Far as I know, no music in common with any of those show. And no narration.
  22. The real question is why people automatically assume that "The Factory" = Blue Star's doing Machine? Do you assume that the staff can't come up with their own design ideas and just rehash on old ideas? Cause last time I checked, no one else had done a Tour De France show yet until Blue Stars last year.
  23. OH God this. Unless it starts with the crazy embouche guy doing things to get blood back INTO the lips. Then it's excellent.
  24. Uh, I heard Cap Reg in 06 had a 3 and a 1/2 hour block, 15 minute fruitbreak, then a 4 hour block from a member.
