  1. I think the only way DCI survives in general is if they are somehow able to get artistic grants from the government. Outside of that, capitalism rules our country and fake inflation to increase profit margins of corporations will kill anything good that exists. As a former member of both the Glassmen and Cadets, I am sad. DCI was my life through highschool and college.
  2. Can't wait to be in Cadets alumni corps. Hope we go wild for the 100th. 11 more years.
  3. Due to some extremely unfortunate circumstances, I have three extra very good seats in section 222 right on the 50. If anyone is interested please PM me. Currently driving on the turnpike so might not reply right away.
  4. Haha! I couldn't resist. Salty dolphins fans are everywhere. On topic, there are definitely a few years BD didn't win that I thought they should've and some years they did when I thought they shouldn't.
  5. Accused and punished, yes. Caught? You're out of your mind. Every single major cheating allegation against the Patriots has been a railroad job. Filming the rams Superbowl practice? Never happened and ESPN apologized. Spygate? I bet you don't even know that every team films every single game, not to mention THEYRE ALL BROADCAST ON LIVE TV! New bigboy commissioner Goodell tried illegally changing the rules on where teams could have their cameras set up, Bill ignored it because that's not how rule changes worked and the new guy slapped them with the biggest team punishment in history and the media painted it as if no other team films games for practice footage. Deflategate? Literally a railroad job by the league. Elementary school level science can explain what happened. Hell, your car has a sensor that goes off every winter when it gets cold out too! Nope, tom is a mastermind of making his footballs perform worse in the air and be all floppy for a competitive disadvantage. Yup, another massive fine and Brady got suspended for 4 games because the CBA gives Goodell the power to do whatever he wants for no reason. Oops, still won another superbowl that year. What else? Filming the god awful Bengals 3 years ago from the press box while shooting B roll for a behind the scenes YouTube video about the scout team? Yeah, really got em. They ASKED for credentials and were granted BY THE BENGALS THEMSELVES. Good thing that big man in the next suite over caught and tattled! Really finally proved the pats are the cheaters everyone wants them to be and couldn't possibly just be that good at football. At least the league just stayed quiet and didn't throw out even more draft picks and another record team fine...
  6. I've been saying this for a few years know. It single handedly will clean up drill and add some amount of uniformity back to DCI. Is that a clean circle form or a blob? I'm not sure, everyone looks so different it's hard to tell. #bringbackhats
  7. Not only is it almost 2 weeks into tour already, but it's JULY SIXTH. HOW DO THEY NOT YET HAVE A COMPLETE SHOW? If this is acceptable, why should fans want to buy tickets to these early season shows?
  8. Watching on Flo. What in the world is Boston doing? Their pants look terrible when standing with legs spread or crouching. Why is the battery in black? They get lost on the field. And the music is just whack. Passing off 2 bar phrases of the main wonderful world theme? Wtf? Sounds terrible.
  9. As a general BD hater besides a few select years (should've won in 08) I agree. I'm not saying I'm a big fan of BDs show this year, but it's a lot better than everything else I watched tonight.
  10. Wait a little and reload it. Happened to me with Vanguard last night then it was fixed 10-15 minutes later.
  11. Guard accounts for a total of 10 points in the final score. Cadets got 1st in Brass, Percussion, and GE. A 4th place Guard might be the difference from 1st to 2nd at best for them this year.
  12. To clarify some stuff, Brian Hickman marched Cadets in the late 80s/ early nineties. He became the tour director after he marched for a few seasons and then became the director of Glassman starting in 1997 after Dan Hutchinson became the director of DCI. Brian was the director of Glassmen through the 2012 season.
  13. I was at the show and here is my review of the 6 that performed. I was seated at the top of the lower section right on the 50 so my opinion on drill is that I couldn't see much, but it was an amazing vantage point for music. Bluestars: Whoa! It's been a long off season for me. I was definitely not expecting that much volume this early. The brass book is pretty well written and exciting. Visually, it looked like it could be pretty cool and quite difficult. They were not too clean, which is a pretty good spot to be in at the beginning of the season. Lots to work on but they should definitely be solid by the end of the season. My only complaint was there seemed to be a missing guard during the drum movement. If I recall correctly, there were 8 or 12 guys on the filed and no girls. Half of the guys had long wooden poles and mostly just ran their drill while holding the poles straight up into the air instead of doing work. This was quite a distraction for me. Obviously will be fixed, but it was kind of annoying. Phantom: Awesome stuff. They took death to a new level. They were VERY solid and entertaining. No complaints here. I look forward to re-watching this show a few times this year. Note: I'm a pretty big PR fan in general so this may be slightly biased. Crown: HOLY S*&^! I've never been a Crown fan, but OH MY GOD are they ambitious this year. I don't know if I've ever heard a horn book this difficult. I was so distracted by the sounds that I didn't get a chance to focus on the drill and I can't tell you if I thought it was hard or not. (I did notice some rolling around though, not that there's anything wrong with that.) They got some really awesome stuff going on musically and are probably playing more notes than anyone else ever has. The mini-pits all across the outside of the field add some very awesome effects too. Honestly, this may be the second modern-day crown show I have ever liked ('08 being the other.) I think they definitely have a Championship vehicle. In my opinion, they are receiving a medal at finals. I think I may be okay with it being the gold colored one too. This is the show to watch this year. Cavies: I'm usually a fan. It's going to be really hard for me to like this show. GE level was about a zero and the entire show seemed very inaccessible to the crowd. From where I was they seemed to have the least reaction of the night. I know that they are an add-on type corps so I think it will be very interesting to see where they take this thing. Going after Crown is not a good thing for them, at least for right now. Cadets: Wow. This show is a lot more Cadets and a lot less cheesy Christmas than I was expecting. Great music book. Again, I really have no clue on the visual aspect but I did notice this: The backfield stuff after the giant rock out looks great. There's nothing like seeing amazing technique and perfect intervals taking large steps covering a large part of the field. It reminded me a lot of the zipper move from last year. Also, the triangle things are so far away that I didn't really notice what they were using them for. The horn line sounded great! My favorite part of the entire night was the big rock out. Reminded me a bit of Moondance from '01. Very loud and some awesome screaming solos! I was slightly disappointed in the lack of a signature Cadets ending (can't wait until that gets put in) and the triangle things probably need edited or taken out. This show has potential to medal for sure, but I'm not sure on the repeat. Bluecoats: Again, great stuff. I really loved the first half of the show, but it seemed to kinda die out for me in the GE realm. It felt like when you go buy an album because of an awesome song you hear on the radio, and then about half way through you realize that the creativity of the band is severely lacking and all of the songs sound the same. Don't get me wrong, I did like the show and the first half was really great. I just kind of got bored with it towards the end. I need another look (or 12) at this one for sure. I think they have potential to be great. Almost didn't stay for the encore because there wasn't going to be scores, but I thankfully did. Bridge Over Troubled Water was nice. I think they played the opener again. Autumn Leaves sounded great as usual (the soloist was sick... as usual.) Then it was over and they started walking out... wait. A small group started playing by the podium. OMG is this what I think it is? Everyone else starts walking back and sets up in a massive group... THE FANFARE FROM '08!!! The crowd went nuts. A fantastic ending to a really great start of the season. My thoughts on where they'll stack up when scores are announced: 74/75 1 - Cadets 2 - Crown slight gap 70-72ish 3 - Cavies 4/5 - PR/Coats decent gap 65-67ish 6 - Stars
  14. 1-Bluecoats 2-Phantom Regiment 3-Cavaliers 4-Madison 5-Cadets 6-Carolina Crown 7-Blue Devils 8-Boston Crusaders 9-Blue Stars 10-Santa Clara Vanguard 11-Blue Knights 12-Glassmen Ranking like this is very difficult this year. Honestly I can't say that I don't like any of the shows in the top 12.
  15. After seeing the shows tonight, all I know is that Bluecoats are HOT this year.
  16. They hired you to use your own equipment? It seems like it would be a much easier task if DCI just bought 2 or 3 cameras that record everything in digital and let them travel around with the judges. If you're charging on a per hour basis, they would probably save a bit of money just by subtracting the 'ingestion' process you mentioned.
  17. Ok. It's after midnight here on the east coast and still no videos. I'm disappointed. Oh well, tomorrow morning I guess.
  18. Since this is a FN question thread, this has been in my head pretty much all night... How long until the VoDs are up from last night?!?!?! It seriously shouldn't take them this long to post 5 videos.
  19. Everyone is freaking out about pics and this has been up for almost 24 hours... http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=3...12-4bd0be8c30ea I don't know if it's what you all are looking for, but it pretty much shows the whole uniform.
