  1. I believe this was done by Troopers a few years back, where they had one guy, David Reeves, do the entire "book" (brass and percussion). It didnt turn out well for Troop (nothing against David Reeves. I kind of thought some of the arrangements were good. But what do I know ;-) Any other thoughts of having 1 individual arrange everything?
  2. This is just my $.02...I would say stay at home and save your money. I viewed the San Antonio regional on Fan Network and I was so bored out of my mind. So bored that I will not lose any sleep knowing that was the only DCI show I will see this summer. I dont think I could sit through a live show after what I saw in San Antonio. There is no drum corps moments in any show that I saw. Again, just my opinion.
  3. I bet the Wisconsin State Patrol and DOT are salivating right now. Every year, at the LaCrosse show, they are there to inspect every bus that comes in and out of that show. Now that this has been announced I am sure they are already preparing for inspections. And Wisconsin State Patrol will look for every and anything. Hope corps have repair vehicles standing by and extra money on hand to pay for all the repairs and fines.
  4. The Casper show has moved to Cheyenne as a majority of the schools in Casper are under construction.
  5. Jim Casella is a good example. This is from his website: "His latest broadcast composition projects have included nationwide spots for Cadillac, ABC College Football, Regal Cinemas, and Goodwill Industries, plus several clients in the Portland area. He has scored the original music for a variety of films including the feature film "The Graves" starring Tony Todd (Candyman) and Bill Moseley (The Devil's Rejects) which had its nationwide theatrical release in 2010 as a part of After Dark Films Horrorfest 4 "8 Films to Die For."
  6. So was anyone else there? Unfortunately this thread turned in to a pissing contest instead of some info and more videos on the actual "battles" at PASIC. How fair do you think it was to have a high school line compete against a collegiate line? Would think there would be 2 division. Either way, both lines threw down.
  7. No one is driving the bus since all of their buses are sitting at G-West rusted out and non-operational.
  8. Expect the same announcement to be made at this time next year as this is a 3 year guarantee from these guys.
  9. Crossmen 1997: Colors of Jazz 25 seconds perhaps? Guess it depended on which night. (10:40 mark)
  10. Would anyone else, other than me, consider Surf the new Velvet Knights?
  11. So that is the 2nd NY show with a great ice cream facility? If anyone recalls Hornell, NY and Scoop ice cream shop right down the street. And dont forget Kingston with the Friendly's right next to the stadium.
  12. With all due respect, I 100% disagree. Money is still owed to Champion coach for several years of service. So instead of going back to them, lets try to "run away", tell them the check is in the mail and find another company. Lets ride Phantom's coat tails and try Escot for a summer. Again, the check is in the mail. And now lets switch to yet another company for the summer of 2012. This time, after the season is over, we will pay you for the fuel, but only after the summer is over. Wait, you didnt get the check yet? We sent it out. It should be in the mail. Again, Glassmen need to take a year off, get restructured, and then come back stronger than ever. Just my $.02
  13. So the money they are trying to raise...is this to get through the season or to help pay for back debts? Not sure if you noticed, but Glassmen have used various charter bus companies in recent years (usually corps stick with the same company). They dont use Penske for their trucks like most DCI corps, and they switched food vendors (most DCI corps use US Foods). Have they burned these bridges by being in so much debt to them? And receiving $550,000 seems very far fetched. I would love to see how they came up with that figure. Does that include the money DCI has given them for the past several years? I wish no ill meaning towards any corps, but for heaven's sake G-Men, get everything in order and start fresh. Pay off the debts and come out new and improved. Troopers did it..now follow their lead. Good luck to them!
  14. Jeff took over as caption head in 1993. Didnt Marty Hurley still write the drum book up to that point? I know Phantom got a lot of s**t for the 1992 show. I kind of liked it. And I thought MH wrote the percussion book for that.
  15. Tim K...there will be no scheduling conflict between the Canadian shows and the New England shows. One will be before the other, not at the same time. The conflict that Troop would face would be going back west for their home show and DATR.
  16. My understanding is that the Troopers have been asked to participate in the shows in Canada next year. Thus putting them in the New England area for the 4th of July festivities (i.e. Bristol parade). However, they do need to show good PR by going back to Casper/Cheyenne/Denver to do the home shows. So there might be a scheduling conflict. But stay tuned. If there is any group that can haul ### from one coast to another it would be team Troop. That is correct. The current assistant director for Troop was heavily involved with bringing Magic to where they were in 2002. The main difference between Magic and Troop is money. Troop has it and is currently sustaining it, while Magic ran out. Magic bought the staff in 2002. Colin McNutt for percussion? Gino Cipriani for brass? Jeff Sactig writing the drill? So Troop could easily buy a staff, which as you have seen they are starting to do. Money talks and bulls**t walks.
  17. The entire Troopers staff is being replaced. One could easily say I am "resigning" after so many years. But the truth is their services are no longer needed. Look for an announcement around September 1, or after Labor Day. And I will stick up for Kevin Welborn. He is one of the most "class act" instructors I have even come across. He loves the activity and loves the members to death. He does get excited once in a while. But in my opinion, if he does yell, it just shows his passion for wanting the kids to be better. It never comes across as unproductive.
  18. Can anyone confirm this. Apparently an official announcement will be made very shortly.
  19. Signed bass drum head from the entire percussion section.
  20. Ok...can someone please clarify this for me. I am reading YEA's website and they have postings for 2 summer job openings. Now as I read each job description I see that there is a "fee" involved for both openings. I know Cadets go against the norm and start marching with their right foot, but do they also have another definition of "fee"? If it is a job opening I would hope they arent expecting the person who gets the job to pay to be on tour with them. I would hope that person would be getting paid. So is the word "fee" different in Cadets world?
  21. Pertaining to the 92 show, Paul Halley's "Appalachian Morning" was done again by Crossmen in 1999. "Puma" by First Circle was done again in 2004. And Paul Winter's "Under The Sun" was done in 2011 (closer).
