  1. Have you thought about going to Legends in Kalamazoo? I know that it is about 3 hours from Detroit, but that is in your state at least
  2. Spirit of Atlanta 1980 27th Lancers 1980 Crossmen 1998 Boston Crusaders 2000 Teal Sound 2009
  3. I just read through the other thread, and I appreciate Chris' response about their staff. I was the one who wrote the review, and to be completely honest, I was surprised, because I have read on here that the Madison Scouts are an extremely classy organization. Also, I have no problem with corps staff getting excited in the middle of their corps' show, I tend to get excited and cheer during the show. BTW, for anyone @ the Bristol, RI show, I was a big dude with a curly red beard, wearing a baby blue t-shirt and blue gym shorts, I was around the 25 yard line on side 2, and I would shout the YOU extremely emphatically with the announcer
  4. Doesn't Michigan already have a drum corp? Isn't Legends from Kalamazoo?
  5. Bristol is the one show I was able to get to out of all the ones happening this weekend in New England, so I had never seen any of these performances before. The show was overcast and showery for the beginning, but the sun came out in the middle of it, and then it was just slightly overcast. Also, I was sitting in lawn seats around the 25 yard line. 7TH REGIMENT The only open class corps of the evening. I was not sure what to expect from them, after seeing Danse Macabre last year, but once I saw the bright colors in the guard unis I knew it would be very different from last year. They had a nice sized corps, an improvement over last year. I liked this show a lot. They blended very well and their intonation was nice. The rain shower started as they were setting up and continued through their show. The one thing that I did not like was that from my seat I could hear the color guard counting. Overall, I think this will be a good season for them. JERSEY SURF Surf was the first World Class corps of the evening, and I was a little disappointed with how small they were. That being said, once they started playing, I was very impressed with their sound. I am a little confused as to why people on here said they have no low brass presence, because I heard plenty of low brass from them. It also rained throughout their show as well. There were a few intonation issues in the beginning of Bad Romance, but it was only briefly. I think this show will make this a good year for them, and I hope they continue to have a good season. CROSSMEN Crossmen came on, and the rain was stopping as they were entering the field. I really liked their look and their sound. I was very impressed with them, they seemed almost like a different corps from last year. They had a nice loud horn line, and they blended nicely. The sun came out during the Hallelujah section of their show and I found it very appropriate. I liked their show, and I hope they have much success this season, I could reasonably see them finishing in the Top 12 this year. SPIRIT OF ATLANTA After INT it was Spirit of Atlanta, and I liked their show. The one issue that I had was their flats were so high that I could not see any of the guard work. This made the show seem a little confusing to me, despite knowing what it was about. I really liked their sound. As other posters have said, they are loud. I also enjoyed their use of the electric upright bass. I found the bass to be very tasteful, and not drowning out their low brass at all. I think that they will catch and surpass Boston soon, and will return to the Top 12. MADISON SCOUTS Madison was on fire this year. From the opening hits of their show, I knew this would be an awesome show. However, I was a little disappointed with the opening also. I personally did not think that the tuba soloist needed to be miced, of course it may have been because I had a speaker right next to me. I really liked the way the battery sounded, and I thought the horn line was good. The show was very emotional, as was expected. When they got to the Empire State of Mind, I was very excited. One thing a found a little irritating was that some of the staff was standing nearby and they were telling everyone within earshot what certain things were supposed to mean. Personally, I would prefer to draw my own conclusions, but that is just me. CAROLINA CROWN This show was very well performed. The crowd was very excited for this show. I honestly did not like it. I found it to be gimmicky, and I was unimpressed. That being said, I applaud all of those in Crown for doing what they do. My favorite parts of the show were Paint it Black and Bohemian Rhapsody. From my perspective I did not really hear much of the Rachmaninoff of "Rach Star" but I know it was there. All in all it was a good night, and I hope all of these corps continue to have an Awesome Season.

    Question

So, I just got the music, and there are two pieces. The first one is in Concert Ab, and the second is in Concert F. The second piece I am not worried about, but the second is a little concerning. Any advice for playing in Concert Ab on a Dynasty II baritone?
  11. I now get an error message when I try to click on the link. Maybe the scores were real after all?...
  12. "This is drum corps. You're GOING to do push-ups. In fact, give me twenty right now"
  13. My predictions: Whoever has the highest score wins. Whoever has the highest average score in each caption will win. At least one person will complain about (insert corps name)'s show At least two open class corps will make semifinals Now for what I believe will be the top 12: 1. Tie - Bluecoats and Cavaliers 3. Blue Devils 4. Cadets 5. SCV 6. Madison Scouts 7. Crown 8. Phantom 9. Blue Stars 10.Boston 11.Glassmen 12.Spirit of Atlanta
  14. I thought that in order for Jubal to compete in Open Class they had to agree to all DCI rules? Is that still the case? If so, then wouldn't they be unable to compete if they had members age 22+? And, if they do have overage members, then why wouldn't they just do DCA?
  15. I personally love my Vibram fivefingers. I have two pairs, the treksports, and the Bikila LS, and soon I will be marching in the treksports, and I love them. I could see them being good for drum corps because, they are made for trail running, and are very durable. Even with them on, my roll step is still good. Of course, they should be awesome for jazz running.
  16. Glad to hear that everyone is ok after the accident. I hope they get everything back on track, and it turns into an extremely memorable season for them.

    Question

Thank you very much for this information, it will make my life easier I planned to just show up and play, that wasn't an issue. In all fairness he is a saxophone player, so when I said a played contrabass bugle he did not get it
  18. Really wish my local movie theater was showing Drum Corps at the movies. Nearest theater showing it is 40 miles away

  19. This season could be very historic and important for DCI. Will the Tour of Champions become a yearly set of shows? Will there be any shakeups within the lower world class and higher open class corps? What surprises will there be this season? Will a new Champion be crowned? No one can really say until after the last note is played and the last score is announced, but it will be a good season as long as we get at least one new fan to go to one show. It will be a great season as long as the kids in all of the corps play their best and leave everything on the field. If even one of these things happens, it will be a historic season, especially for those marching.
  20. But soon enough isn't soon enough!!!! (I mean for the shows to begin, not to have it spoiled)
