Post Show Encore Performances
drumcorpsfever replied to Tone Quality Matters's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I've suggested to DCI before that a special album/download featuring "Classics and Encores" would be a huge hit. I'd buy it. Wouldn't you? -
Complete Crowd Silence

I hope there's more people like me out there that cringes when people shout these things during final''s night just to get on the recordings. That's a topic for another day... -

Someone PLEASE give the OP a green check from me. I hit the wrong doggone button! Very nice thoughts! -

You'll remember your friendships, experierences, and life-lessons long after you forget the scores and placements. -
Uniform Care Question
drumcorpsfever replied to Fran Haring's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Yes, machine washable. But only by use in front-load washers that you'll see at laundry mats. These type of washers don't have the same type of washing agitation that most of our in-home washers have. Laundry day on the road is typically done by the terrific volunteers of the corps. -
Phantom Regiment 2013 (2)

For any drum corps fan, it's a thrill to see the welcome sign into Rockford that proclaims: "Welcome to Rockford, home of the 2008 World Champion Phantom Regiment". No way is Rockford a miserable city. With a welcome sign like that, this city can't be all that bad! -

2001 Space Odyssey: Hardly original and played by many - first on the drum corps field in 1969 and the latest being Boston Crusaders in 2008. The sound will be pretty amazing though. Dark Side of the Moon - This should translate really well. I like what I hear on this one. Einstein on the Beach: Have to admit that it's a strange piece IMO. I'll keep an open mind on that until I hear it from them. Overall, wait and see. It's all about the arrangement, design, and execution. Until then, who knows? That's the beauty of drum corps! -
Bluecoats, Creep, 2011 - Classic, never-ever get tired of listening to it. Beautiful, gorgeous, incredible!

DCI show moments that made you teary eyed
drumcorpsfever replied to msumello's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I really, really don't like (hate) the "get on the recordings" yelling. It's a selfish stunt. It's not an authentic, spontaneous cheer from the crowd. I wish people would stop that stuff! Okay, now back to the question... It always hits me at finals night when all the corps come back on the field for the last time. For that matter, for any corps' final performance of the year - be it prelims, or semis, or finals. These kids put so much into a production that ends so abruptly before returning to the world outside of drum corps. -
Music City! Large, powerful hornline. Terrific music, excellent instructional staff, and a corps that's being positioned for sustained growth for years to come.

Hear Preview of Music City
drumcorpsfever replied to MusicCityDrumCorps's topic in DCI Open Class Corps Discussions
That sounds awesome! It's great to have a corps post some of it's music during the off-season! Would love to hear more of what's happening elsewhere around DCI. Thank you Music City for posting this. There's definitely something terrific happening with Music City! This corps is blossoming into something special in DCI. Looking forward to hearing and seeing this on the field in 2013!!! -

NoooooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The imagery that logo produces suggests that it could only have been designed by aliens or by someone that lacks an understanding of the male anatomy and adolescent humor. - But, then again, perhaps it was intentional. hmmmmmmmm........................................ -
Blue Stars new uniform unveiled!
drumcorpsfever replied to TomVV's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Much more creative than Blue Devils moving their headquarters to Texas. Blue Stars wins the battle of April Fools! -
Bluecoats , "Creep" 2011 Phantom Regiment, "Into to the Light", 2010 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- See "Tim K's" reply - 11:40 PM (#5). Some warm-ups of yesteryear were "pre-shows" in their own right. But modern pre-shows get washed into the overall fabric of the show. Not really sure why many would be considered "pre-shows". Perhaps the broader question is whether or not present-day corps are taking full advantage of the pre-show rule change of a few years ago. The original proposal for pre-shows would have allowed for instrumentation and electronics of any kind. I'd say this part of the "show" hasn't fully evolved yet.

Great examples so far! Keep 'em coming. I'll throw 2 more into the mix from 1995. How about The Cadets of Bergen County. Their show, titled "An American Quintet" or the 3rd place Blue Devils from that same year with "Carpe Noctem". Either the Cadets or BD could have taken home the hardware and no one would have blinked . . . except they ran into the Cavaliers that year with "The Planets Redux" - and the Cavies would not be denied. If you're looking for a great 2,3 punch to go along the with the victor, check these shows out!

I'm interested in DCP posters sharing examples of non-champion shows that "coulda-woulda-shoulda" won, or otherwise provided a super strong contender against that year's winner. I'll give you one... 1989 Santa Clara "Phantom of the Opera" versus 1989 Phanton Regiment with their show "New World Symphony". Only 4/10's of point separated first and second. There are those, even today, that insist Phantom's show should have been the winner. That's quite an accomplishment for Phantom as SCV's show is a time-tested classic. For me, it's like 2 different flavors of ice cream: hard to choose just one. Another could be the 2008 Blue Devils and Phantom. I'd be hard pressed to give any corps the nod over Phantom's Spartacus from that year. So for me, I like the 1989 example. I've watched both Santa Clara and Phantom from 1989 a couple of times recently and can certainly see why some folks prefer Phantom. These 2 shows are a great one-two punch to get some drum corps on - and even do a little judging from your easy chair. So, please share some of those great non-champion shows that are must-see, fitting the above description. Name the corps and the year and any comments you'd like to share. It'll make for some fun Fan Network watching.

Unworthy of leading people
drumcorpsfever replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Interesting quote from the story that you attached: "recommended briefing all band personnel about the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct for Educators" No one likes "Captain Hindsight", but these types of things usually never come to pass if handled appropriately, professionally, consistently, and communicated effectively from the very beggining. Not having any real facts outside of the story, it just appears that the outcome didn't have to be what it was. -
Regarding the OP's question: Is it worth it? Answer: Heck ya! I absolutely love prelims- the "all skate" is an awesome day from the 1st corps on the field to the last one of the night. If you've never been able to take the whole day in before, and you love drum corps, and can be in Indy, do yourself a favor and take in prelims. It's an incredible day. As for semi's on Friday - another terrific day with the top 25. Friday in its own right is terrific. As for finals, well it's the top 12 - the showcase of the activity. What more can you say about that. Throw in the parade, the National Theater event of Thursday, the age out ceremony, etc... Yes, definitely worth it. It's the highlight of our summer!

Want another great idea for recordings? How about some of the awesome corps songs and other classics they typically do at encores. Have 'em professionally recorded and sell them as a package - or as individual downloads. I'd buy them for sure.
