  1. Folks, check with your employers for matching gifts. Many employers offer 1-to-1 matching gifts. As such, your donation is doubled - and will help the Gmen twice as much!
  2. Thanks for posting. I love Pioneer and this is a great way to help support them. Easy to vote. Please share with all and help Pioneer with some gas!
  3. This is an interesting video as posted on DCI website regarding licensing. It was posted last January. I didn't realize that DCI paid for the licensing on behalf of the member corps. Good info on the business side of the activity. http://dci.thefannetwork.org/?vod_id=4ab1eafa-5e1c-47fa-9619-18c21325b2c4&mode=viral
  4. I wore a sling to carry my snare and walked miles to practice in the snow and rain. I practiced by candlelight. Fewer steps were made outside of the 50 than by than the man on the moon. What I would have given for a harness and to move at the rate of the modern drummer!
  5. The Troopers are America's Corps. All fans of the activity would welcome Troop back to being a legitimate finals contender.
  6. Do you think if a drum corps did this if much of the show would be bleeped out on the video for synching right issues? There's been over 7 million views on youtube - pretty amazing! This has got to be good for promoting music programs.
  7. There are a number of things that drum corps has done to improve the efficiencies and economies of the activity. Here's a few: Drum Corps Co-Ops: A number of corps have worked together to negotiate bulk pricing of food services. As such, money is saved and kids eat better as result. Strategic Alliances: DCI and DCA within the past year have formed a strategic alliance, not to mention BOA. Corps partnering: Probably more than ever before, corps understand the need to work together. The competitive sprit will continue to live between corps, but I sense, more than ever, each corps realizes that the best way to ensure a bright future is to work within a collective spirit. We've seen many examples over recent years where corps have helped out one another - be it a food trailer here, facilities there, or meals for hungry kids. Also, some of the top corps share recruiting prospects and assist with fledgling corps more than what many of us realize. Lastly, never discount the value of a spirited, loyal, and enthusiastic base. We're out here! One thing the activity can always use, though, is the next Bill Cook.
  8. If there's a way to eliminate the unauthorized voice-overs without diminishing the sound quality of music that would be outstanding. BTW, (stated somewhat tongue-in-cheek) if that can be accomplished, do you think they could eliminate the sound of the occassional fan that yells during a finals performance for the sole purpose of getting their voice on the recording? I love pure fan reaction, but find these types of outbursts to be a bit selfish and distracting. This issue (fan etiquitte) could probably be its own topic discussion, so we can save it for another day.
  9. One of the highlights at the Indy Championships in 2011 was seeing the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. God bless our Marines! G bugles are part of the tradition of the corps and couldn't see them ever playing anything other than G bugles. If Chuck Norris had a drum corps, it would be the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps! Semper Fi!!!
  10. "You and I can make beautiful music together." - "However, let's not tell anybody what music we're making until at least April!"
  11. Juliet. Color Guard uniforms were outstanding. More musical moments. Slight edge to the 2011 show.
  12. Wow, what Appleknockers!!! -Yes, there was a drum corps by the name of Appleknockers!
  13. Anyone recall the Billy Ocean song: Get Outta of My Dreams, Get Into My Bus?
  14. Spot on! I agree wholeheartedly agree. Although I've enjoyed Madison's shows the last 2 years, it's time to move on and explore new sounds and make 'em Scouts.
  15. Story Here "Both Sides Now" can be a very beautiful song if they choose to play it. Edited .... Guess they won't be playing this tune if this information is correct: Restricted Compositions: Not Available for Video Recording http://www.musicforall.org/resources/copyright/restricted-compositions
  16. I was unaware of this initiative. I watched the video and really hope that they can get their ducks in a row and make a good go of it. Good luck to you, Teal Drum Corps!
  17. The educational experience of drum corps goes well beyond what any classroom could ever deliver. Music, community, interpersonal relationships, respect, diversity, economics, physical education, and on and on... Hope this succeeds!
  18. Hate to admit it, but amongst us friends, ABBA would be pretty cool show music!
  19. The Madison Scouts and Creative Director James Mason are please to announce their 2013 production titled "Corps of Brothers – 75 Years of Survival". In spite of a little grammatical error in the announcement, you have to give the boys of Madison props for announcing their 2013 plans so early. I can sense the pride and excitement in their production already. I'm looking forward to it. I can hear the crowd roar for the Scouts already! Go get 'em, guys!
  20. -------------------------------- Bluecoats 2012? "Afraid"
  21. I agree with you, Michael, that it's necessary to have the field judge. They are necessary to be able to pick out nuances that you mention and to provide an occassional fun moment when a fast-moving, modern drum line comes close to mowing them down! BTW - I'm an drummer too from back in the 70's! I would have loved the mobility of the modern drummer! Would have been great!
  22. Seems to me that show music should be planned 2 years in advance to avoid licensing issues. It's probably not entirely practical, but considering some the copyright problems of recent years, it may be a good way to go.
  23. I hope this isn't the case. My Christmas list includes the download of the Cadets 2012 show. Please, no more edit-outs of drum corps shows!!!
