  1. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so proud of you!!!
  2. It’s no secret BD has it really good and yes, it works for them. I’ll never stop being grateful for this organization. Ever. Neither will my kid-now-adult. Not sure where the Cadets rumors came from. Perhaps it is this comparison with other corps that isn’t lost on the kids. Just know the Cadets org wasn’t for us.
  3. I agree there are tons of rumors about this. I never marched there and neither did my kiddo and even though he debunked these rumors with many friends of his, he still always felt for the Cadets when he was in Another corps enjoying free time, sleeping a little more and still accomplishing well... a lot. A whole lot.
  4. I voted no, for a few reasons that have a lot to do with having hindsight as 20/20 after my kid marched 7 seasons. For many reasons, when he was still marching, this was the ONE corps that was a no from us parents for him to march at, particularly while he was underage, due to many things we'd heard from verifiable sources (staff, kids who marched there) that were for sure just not a good fit for my kiddo. Not every corps is for every kid. There were other personal reasons as well that yes, did have to do with the leadership of that corps. I won't go into that here, but it seems that my intuition was right. If I had it to do over and this had happened AND my kiddo were an adult, then no, I don't suppose there'd be anything I could do to stop them from marching there if it were his heart's desire - nor would I want to. As a parent of a minor though, I'd have some concerns over this season for sure, and I think that's fair under the circumstances. I wish nothing but the very best for the staff and MMs of the Cadets organization and hope they can recover from this swiftly.
  5. Yes, I have thoughts. What is it exactly that you are saying? That YEA is so culpable that they are incompetent and therefore should pull out of touring and being active? And why can’t you run a tour and recover? Cut out the cancer and move on to a full, productive life. Offer help to the victims. Take responsibility even if you aren’t technically the bad actor. Is this horrible? Yes. But the choice is to rise above or sink below. I’m not actually so familiar with YEA but I’m guessing they will try rise. You can rise without having to turn to ashes first.
  6. Everybody loses their minds when Xmen come out on there field at this show. No one else even comes close.
  7. Blue Stars was gorgeous. At first I thought "dangit" with the VO but then it calmed down. Super solid performance.
  8. many thanks! I forgot about that...haven't been to this board much since the kiddo aged out in 2015 :-) Just made a post. Fingers crossed!
  9. Anyone have two half-way decent to decent tickets you want to unload for DCI San Antonio? Wasn't going to go but then this season got all crazy and now I gotta see it! Thanks! Please PM me.
  10. Hello there, please accept my apologies if this type of thread is not allowed and please delete if so. This year was going to be the first in like 10 years that I decided not to go to DCI San Antonio, but now I'm regretting that decision! Needless to say, not interested in the few seats they have left on the 5 yardline Does anyone have any extra seats that are pretty good for sale? Please PM me if so. Many thanks!
  11. BAC just announced the joining of McNutt and Cipriani to their staff on Facebook.
  12. Just watched a rehearsal video of a full run. Holy cow. Someone definitely forgot to tell them it's only June. This show is going to be hard to beat, especially at the performance level BD can achieve. Nice!!!
  13. I'll echo what the others have said, although my kid was never in the horn line. Don't focus on what everyone else is doing, focus on what YOU are doing. Be prepared to play the materials that they provide/request, do a visual audition, and likely have an interview. They are certainly going to be not only looking for capability, but POTENTIAL as well. You need to show them that you have BOTH. Most of all, be easy-going and show that you are a team player that can get along with others, take direction well, and not question the things that you are told. Keep in mind that if selected, you will be at monthly camps and then spend 60+ days with these folks this summer. It's not like summer band. You live, breathe, eat and sleep alongside everyone else in this corps, so they are definitely looking for people who they know they won't have to chase down to get on the bus, will be out on the field on time, and are cool people that are easy to get along with. I've known of more than one insanely talented kid who either got cut or weren't invited back to a corps over these personal issues. Good luck! And, the corps that you are auditioning for are certainly not out of reach for a rookie, but they will be more competitive than the others particularly after all these corps just had very successful years. Should it not work out with the corps that would be the pick of your litter, get a spot somewhere and MARCH. You only get to do this activity when you are young, so make sure you do it!
  14. WVU80 - They tried it a couple years ago the day after San Antonio. Then DCI did decide to discontinue it so it is now sponsored by System Blue.
  15. Congratulations to all the performers!
  16. Thanks for posting this. Congratulations to you! I myself am going to be a hot mess. Definitely going to be doing the ugly cry. Kiddo is finally done after 7 seasons.
  17. Hi there! I don't know if my son was on your flight, but thank you SO MUCH for delivering him and all the kids safely. He has flown 70+ times in the past 7 years in drum corps and I appreciate each and every pilot and flight attendant that has sent him back to us safely. That goes for all the bus drivers too. The folks that transport our kids safely from one place to the next via plane, train and automobile are the real unsung heroes of DCI. Without them, none of this would be possible. And thanks for the kind words. Drum corps kids are a good bunch. :-)
