  1. Not unfamiliar with it, just don't think the narration portion of it is good for corps. I'm really opposed to anything making noise besides drums and brass...not just Crown, but wow their entire show pretty much has voiceovers! Can't stand it.
  2. Hah...memories of my first year! Wow I don't really remember any of that, it is a blur...was a great one though!
  3. Blue Devils 04 exiting the field at Mile High through the tunnel, not even stopping. Absolutely my favorite show to perform and that was a hell of a twist! I will need to start watching some of these others, besides SCV 89 I don't know how many I've seen.
  4. Brother I mean no disrespect to any LGBT. Hell, I live in Hillcrest in San Diego, and if you know anything about Hillcrest... Fruity, cheesy, nutty...these are all words that describe foods, and also tend to describe an action. Has nothing to do with sexual orientation or bias. There was another poster in this thread that used "gay" as a negative connotation and you didn't even harp on him.
  5. No clue where waffles came from, but yeah that sounds really good...I'm kinda hungry.
  6. I would totally pay for a Roku "Marching Arts" channel, including DCI, BOA, other state and national contests like Texas TMEA All-State, etc. That would be amazing...
  7. I don't think you can tie anymore. There are tiebreakers for just that reason, happened too often in the late 90s.
  8. Back in the early 2000s they had the "Judgecam" worn on the hat of one of the judges, normally percussion caption I think. Haven't seen it in a while. Maybe making a comeback?
  9. In the end, that's all that matters. I have no idea what all the different 10ths of score points or whatnot were when I marched, just all the friends and good times I had and putting on a hell of a show for the audience. After next week, scores/judges don't matter.
  10. EXACTLY and it is really sad. You and I were marching the same time frame, and I agree the changes made back then to horns were good. I never really agreed with amplification, I think it was Crown in 04 that started it, and when BD did it in 05 I almost quit...but how could I quit? I don't get all the little dancing and pirouettes and gestures that the members do every time they change positions, how can that really raise GE at all? It looks fruity. There are some props that I love, I am incredibly mixed this year on many of them, but in the end all I really need out there is the corps doing their thing, not a bunch of other stuff. Vanguards props this year are amazing, how they provide a backdrop and actually hide the entire corps for the one moment during "Let Him Live", and I can see BD's point in using the poles to create different stages on the field that represent different periods of sacrifice, commune, and religion, although I think it is too much to transport. The only way it can change is if DCI judging changes, or specifies that we don't need all the "fluff" to do well in the activity. I really can't tell the difference between DCI and BOA anymore!
  11. "Professional Amateur Marching Band minus Woodwinds during Summertime including Props and Synth and Keyboards" Or, we could just call it "Marching Broadway Musicals" right?
  12. Just seeing SCV up there would make me very happy, I miss them being contenders for medals! Thanks!
  13. This is absolute perfection. Although, I think the last song would actually be "I'm Alright" by Kenny Logins, from the Caddyshack soundtrack. haha...and they would have a prop of a little dancing gopher...:thumbup:/>
  14. Exactly. Look don't get me wrong I think Scott Chandler is from another planet with the stuff he thinks up sometimes, but a lot of it is purely him and some random dream he had the other night. BD could very well get another show designer in the next 5 years that sees things completely differently, changes everything around, and then you go one of two ways: either no props and back to old school kick it jazz, or maybe some kind of 4 dimensional show with floating members on hover-boards playing from behind the audience. It could happen. :lookaround:/>
  15. Is there anywhere I can see this show other than the outrageous Fan Network price? I'm a HUGE SCV fan so I really want to check them out! I've tried to SCV homepage to see if I could donate and be on some fan page, but nothing in their media section. BD already has two of their performances up in Mediabox so at least I get something. Can't wait for the theaters!
  16. I don't dislike or hate any corps. As a previous poster commented, the kids out there are given a product and do it to their best ability, and that's really all I care about too. I am a very proud BD alum and fan, always will be, but even I don't really like some of the newer shows that BD is doing, and I hope they aren't influencing the direction of DCI because I'd be upset. I hate all the amplification/singing/sound effects from keyboards, that just wasn't the style of drum corps that I grew up with as a kid watching PBS (remember those days?!?). I like it big, loud and jazzy ( you can see where I got into BD, and where I really like Crown a ton most years too, and Boston), and I love the symphonic/broadway so I've always been a big fan of Vanguard and Phantom. I would never put down another corps for their name alone, or because they could win (I really, really don't care who wins), but I will still ##### about the shows that are getting away from what my expectation of corps is...brass, drums, guard...no batteries included.
  17. Again, it isn't always about "winning" and I think that is what this type of system would be trying to even out. People join a corps for a number of reasons, like distance, tour schedule, staffing, or for me, traditions. Every corps has their own unique history and embraces their own traditions - which appeal uniquely to each person marching with them. If you randomize it, all those traditions and histories mean, well, nothing.
  18. I would have liked to see where Esperanza could have gone if they stayed in Division 1. After winning Division 2 the year before and moving up, it was a shame they folded.
  19. I absolutely love SCV's show this year, and I've been a big fan of Les Mis since I was a little kid so this show hits home. I really hope they do well and feel successful, because they will deserve it, but I don't see them pulling ahead of BD, because (however you want to take this) it isn't just about the music (and I don't need to get into a diatribe about that here, right?).
  20. Cavaliers - Classical Innovations 1999 (one of my favorite shows, just cause of the drill alone) BD- SummerTrain Blues Mix 2004. has nothing to do with the history of the corps (except that it was a very sad year) but it was such a fun show!
  21. That is not the way the staff or the members feel as a whole. Sure, you're dealing with teens here, they want to win and some of them probably aren't mature enough to have learned the lessons that we wiser, older members and staff have. But in general, we all teach them to enjoy the competition and make the best out of yourself, to push beyond what you think you possibly can. If you come out at the end of the season a better player, better physically fit, a better leader, just a better person - then you've won. I worked for BD during a time when we had a bronze, 3 silvers, a 4th, and 1 gold. They were the happiest years of my life, don't really care what place we got. :rolleyes:/>
  22. I will be marching by myself in 2 San Diego area parades...no corps will be joining me. Could be just me walking down the street playing corps music from a boombox, we shall see...
  23. Totally agree- and wow does that guard look good in the dresses!
  24. I REALLY wanted to get up there tonight, it is the closest show to home and my only real chance to see any shows since I can't make Riverside on Sunday either. I guess I will have to live this season through online/in theaters, but got to hang with my BD crew while they were in town rehearsing so there is one small plus. Really upset I couldn't see Crown and the others though.
