  1. I love seeing the pics of Trafalgar. That's where I spent my high school band camp years--that old tower certainly brings back memories! The snakes? Not so much.
  2. When Rufus Wainwright's album came out with Oh What A World in 2003, I couldn't stop listening to it and thought, "#### that would make a great drum corps piece." And now it is! I won't be able to see them live. Does anyone have their version of it to share?
  3. That backfield guard video? I think I'm responsible for about 100 views. Incredible. Joyful. Energetic. Stunning. Perfect angles. Technique. Just an amazing view into the work that all of these young people put into this. And that crowd reaction? Wonderful.
  4. I agree with everything you said. I find these GoPro perspectives to be awesome, exciting, and just fantastic to watch. I hear bits and pieces, see how a show fits together, etc. The Crown kid who did it last year--I couldn't stop watching it. Totally an amazing marketing tool for DCI.
  5. I cannot get Hymn Of Acxiom out of my brain. All. The. Time. I. Humm. It. In. My. Brain. The databases have gotten to me.
  6. Wow, really? That would have been awesome. Maybe Bluecoats will bring something Rufus to the field next year...
  7. I think Rufus Wainwright has a ton of music that would be good for a corps to do, particularly a ballad. Not sure who, but since Bluecoats did a great job with Vienna Teng's piece this year, let's go for Bluecoats.
  8. They'll shake some tambourines to put the fire out.
  9. I predict Bluecoats will do a show entitled "Melt" They can melt your faces. They can melt the turf. The field will ooze off of the sidelines. Impossible you say? That's what I say. That's what D.C.Patrick says.
  10. I read responses to this that it was the 2nd time they had done this music for a show.
  11. That's what he said…that's what James Earl Jones said….
  12. This riff on the narration makes me laugh every time. EVERY. TIME.
  13. They aren't talking about PR '91, they're talking about BD 14. But the PR '91 leg spread thingy--also kind of not appropriate. So the point is proven?
  14. I watched a video a couple days ago and thought similar things, but I've always been kind of meh with Blue Devils. I'm sure there is something Fellini-esque about the guard sitting down, pounding at the table while the drummers wag their drums in front of them? I'll have to Google that.
  15. Well, as someone who is gay, when I see words like 'prancing', or phrases attacking men for lack of masculinity, yeah, I do see homophobia. Or at least a gender attack on a bunch of men for not being manly enough. I get really sick of people not thinking about the impact of the words they choose to use, then get all bent out of shape when they're called out on it. Even if someone uses the words prancing, mincing, effeminate, lack of masculinity, etc to describe any drum corps, particularly an all male corps, it has a certain nasty undertone that probably shouldn't be there.
  16. I love the Madison Scouts. Ever since I started watching drum corps in the early 90s. Especially appreciated those City of Angels shows, and I had a cassette recording of whenever they did the Doxology as an opener, though I know it wasn't called Doxology in their program. What bums me out about this thread is reading guys talking about 'prancing', attacking the Scouts for seemingly not enough 'masculinity', which for me, reads as not-so-subtle homophobia. You know what? The Scouts are always masculine, because they are a bunch of men. Playing instruments. Interpreting music. Tossing rifles. And doing their best. I rarely post on any thread, but I am on this one because I'm disappointed in a lot of the comments that I'm reading. I love the trombone feature this year, I think the flags are awesome, it has a very Mad Men-esque feeling. And while I wish their visual program had a little more oomph to it, I can say that Madison Scouts always entertains me and every year I can't wait to see them--whether I have the opportunity to watch them live or it has to be via the YouTube machine. But yikes, reading the comments from alums, it does really make me pause. You represent your corps--and you are free to say whatever you want, I get that. But, just like dcikon2 above, just because you can say something, doesn't mean you should.
