  1. Blue Devils B will win open class and place in world class. The Cadets will come in second with a show about personal hygene and civic duty.
  2. If you are not going to address your complaint openly, why post it on a public forum such as Facebook? Make your complaint in private and let it ride on its merits. All the talk on here is just speculation and gossip. I don’t know the motivation, unless you are trying to pressure or embarrass someone.
  3. When I think about my all-time favorite shows, the score did not really influence my enjoyment of the show. While I don’t dispute the placement of the Blue Devils, I do think that the score is questionably high. I saw the show several times, this year, but it didn’t stick with me. I enjoyed it. It was at the level we expect, for the Blue Devils, but I don’t think it was their show of shows. For the last few years, their shows have not been my cup of tea. They seem too systematic. I really loved the arrangement of last years, Re-Rite of Spring, when I first heard it. When the novelty of the arrangement wore off, I found it really boring and cold. The Blue Devils are undeniably one of the most talented in drum corps history, but there is something about their style that really leaves me with mixed feelings. I enjoy them and respect the level of difficulty, but there is something that really stiff about their style.
  4. 1975 Madison Scouts – Powerhouse horn line with killer soloists. 1975 27th Lancers – Classic show with great drill and general effect. 1977 Blue Stars – Spent most of the summer with the music from this show playing in my head. 2003 Cavaliers – Spin Cycle was a fun show with a great drill and musical concept. When I’m pulling out DVD’s of past years, I always end up watching Spin Cycle. 2004 Carolina Crown – Bohemia was a great show. 2014 Bluecoats – Tilt was the best show of 2014. I know the Blue Devils won with a unrealistic score, but the show everyone was up on their feet about, was Tilt.
  5. I overheard Michael Cesario talking to a barista, at a Starbucks in downtown Indianapolis. He said something about Fellini on the farm. He had this sly smile on his face. As he picked up his Americano triple shot, he said under his breath, “E I E I Oh.” Hopefully that answers your question.
  6. I’m a big fan of the Oregon Crusaders this year. I was hoping to see them overtake Spirt of Atlanta, like they did a few nights before. I thought they got a bit screwed in prelims in GE by one judge and thought that they would redeem themselves in semis. When I saw the Blue Devils B semifinals performance, I didn’t think they would come out ahead of them. I don’t agree with Vanguard Cadets and Academy, but BDB smoked their show in semis. I loved the Crusaders show, regardless of the placing. They should be proud of themselfs. It was their best show ever. I do think that all drum corps classes should have the same judging rating. Its the same activity and they should be judged the same. I also think that if a world class corps does not make semifinals, two year consecutively, their status should be changed to open class. It has got to be somewhat frustrating to be in last place at every show. At least in open class they would have some corps to compete with.
  7. The people sitting next to me, at the live show in Indy, said they thought the Vanguard show was too Vegas. I normally love them, but I also think some of the props and glitter are a bit tacky. I was very surprise that they are beating Crown, as I thought their show was much more difficult and they performed it well, last night. I really loved the Oregon Crusaders show. I thought that they should of passed Academy soundly. They really get pounded on GE, but the crowd gave them two standing ovations. It was also the talk of the people around me. When you look at the recap, it appears to be one GE judge that delt them a bad card. Hopefully they will get different judges tonight.
  8. I doubt it, but it would be great if they did. The Blue Devils show is really boring. When the Bluecoats are done with their show, the crowd goes nuts. When the Blue Devils are done, the crowd applauses, but out of respect not out of enthusiasm. But then again, the DCI championship is not based on crowd favorites.
  9. The Crusaders have a really ambitious show, this year. The show design is very mysterious and draws you in. They are doing a great job, but have quite a ways to go, in terms of cleaning and performing it. If they can have a few good days of rehearsals, I think they can jump up in the pack. They have a couple corps chasing their tails, but I don’t think anyone, close to them, has as much room to improve. I’m really looking forward to seeing them again in Indy. If they get to where they are really performing this show, I think they won’t have to worry about anyone behind them. This is one of my favorite shows, this year. I would love to see them in the top 12.
  10. If you get a chance, you should not miss this show. Whether they make it to finals or not, the show is very well written and very entertaining. It’s great to see a corps make the jump to world class and not flounder. I saw the show on their opening night, in McMinnville. While I’m a big fan of Vanguard and have always rooted for the Crossman, the Oregon Crusaders show was far more memorable. Even with them closing the show after the Blue Knights, Vanguard and Crossman, they didn’t seem like a step backwards. While I agree with the outcome of the scores, I feel that the best written show of the night, was the Crusaders. (my humble opinion.)
  11. Bridgemen - Always a crowd favorite. Power and humor 27th Lancers - Classic style and inovation Arognauts - Small, but powerful little corps from Oregon
  12. I think Zappa's, Joes Garage would make a great show. Unfortunatly it is not family friendly and would probably offend some.
  13. My dad also took that record away from me. He said it sounded like I was playing two bad records at the same time. I quickly replaced it with a Captain Beefheart record that equally made him upset.
  14. There are a lot of Frank Zappa tunes that would translate to drum corps. I'm not sure about "Billy the Mountain" but I would enjoy it. My dad took that record away from me, it bugged him so bad
  15. I downloaded the Blue Devils from their website, since they offered the field studio recording. I did the same with Crown. I normally don't enjoy the Blue Devils musical arrangments for casual listening, so It is rare that I download their show. This year it was because I like Rite of Spring. While I enjoy the Blue Devils and have a great deal of respect for them, I don't find their style that pleasing. They always have great tallent and perform the hell out of their shows, but they are missing something for me. When I'm listenin to corps, in my car or at home, I'm not that concerned with anything other than ear candy. The Blue Devils just are not ear candy, for my tastes.
  16. Have you all forgotten about the Hindenburg? Bimps are a bad idea.
  17. Other than Crown and BD, are there any other corps releasing studio recordings this year?
  18. I overheard Wayne Downy talking to a barista. I was hanging out at the Coffee Klatch in downtown Concord. I don't know if he was talking about the 2014 show or not, but it sounded like it. He described a show that would pay tribute to the late dancer, Isadora Duncan. The show would be called, Scarf. The music would be abstract and undeniably French. He said that the visual team was quite excited, about the possibilities. There will be lots of opportunities for mime, scarfs and red balls. He then abruptly ended the conversation, when it was apparent they didn't leave enough room for cream.
  19. Actually, I heard from one of the arrangers that they are doing a new take on the Aaron Copland’s composition, Appalachian Spring. The show is going to be called, Re-Application Spring.
  20. I really am enjoying it as a recording. I had a hard time enjoying thier show during the season. I don’t think that it translated well to the field show. Just being able to hear the music, is much more satisfying. Don’t get me wrong, the Blue Devils field show was amazing, but It was not my cup of tea. The music however, is a masterful arrangement that translates well to the recording. I'm really looking forward to Crown releasing their recording.
