  1. Before I come down with pre-mature infatuation, I am pleased to hear that my favorite corps seems to be righting the ship with a recommitment to Cadetsism....Through all the tumult of this off season, it's encouraging that the Cadets are still here and apparently getting healthy..Carry on!....peace
  2. I still get chills when I listen to the early drum corps leaving the field to that double firing...As a performer it signaled the last opportunity to impress the crowd...And isn't that what we were there to do?..peace
  3. Hence the infamous quote from Pepe N. on the bus after a show:" Hey Manny, what's that you're smoking?" Followed by a short but purposeful slap to the back of the head..lol.. Ah, the good old days..lol
  4. 8 Minutes?...Isn't that like BOA ?..So the audience participant(me) will pay more for less(possibly)? So I guess the adjudicators will not penalize a corps for an 8 minute show vs. an 11 minute show of equal quality?Maybe it's me, but I always thought drum corps contests (shows) could evolve into even longer presentations...But I guess logistics and travel considerations prevent that...With an activity that can't guarantee that you will see a show (outdoors), giving fans more not less seems reasonable..Also, going to a show with only 4 or 5 corps is going to be rough if you have to travel more than 2 hours both ways..So FLO will become even more important(yikes)!!!..All the above is just the rambling of a senior citizen who loves drum corps..I defer to my learned DCPers who know the activity better.
  5. Didn't Manny march with the Skyliners also?
  6. Doesn't Stihl sponsor competitive lumberjacking..CBS 2 (cable)?
  7. I know it's late but I want to congratulate the BLOOO for the best show in 2022...Scores aside, the changes made by finals cemented for me the most fun experience in drum corps last season...When all is said and done, the fan experience should mean something.. So the Devils may have won the sheets, but on finals night BLOOO brought the HEART of a champion to LOS ...The early season BLOOO morphed into the challenging, creative and exciting group that I love to see and hear..Thanks for the ride!!
  8. Posted this a few years ago...When I marched with the N.Y. Skyliners, one of my first shows was an exhibition we had at Lewisberg Federal Penitentiary in Pennsylvania.WE marched on a field surrounded by inmates who, while being guarded closely, appreciated our brief presentation...But the highlight of our brief presentation was an acknowledgement by one lone cellmate overlooking the field who yelled out:"Hey Pee Wee, Hey Pepe" as we left the field...Aparently the old Brooklyn neighborhood guy had made it to Lewisberg for a few years of R and R and when he recognized Pee Wee and Pepe, we(the corps) laughed our ##### off at our apparent popularity with the underworld set...Some of us picked horns and drums in our respective neighborhoods to express ourselves BITD....Others chose knives and guns...Needless to say, I was glad to be back on the bus and outside prison the prison walls
  9. Cadets-To kill a mockingbird .....BD- Channel one suite...Crossmen- The whole 91 show and lastly, Madison Scouts-Theme from ice Castles
  10. It ain't drum corps but the US BANDS Finale in Houston, has some really talented H.S. bands today..FLO's telecast is flawless (so far) enjoy..peace
  11. I am not familiar with these individuals but their credentials suggest that they are seasoned educators..Can anyone fill us in on whether these hires are upgrades to last year's team?
  12. Maybe I missed something because I thought the OP was merely giving an intelligent observation that actually supports both the talent and quality of DCI across eras..The instruments used, though different, were just the tools with which the mm;s had at their disposal at that time..So, if I missed something I yield to my fellow contributors..peace
  13. Don Ellis was one of my favorite composers..He also had great chops!..So when BD performed his music, I became a fan for life ( even though Garfield was my aesthetic at that point in time)..Thank you for great memories..The more things change the more they stay the same(said my late mother)..Talent levels are still thru the roof and marching demands are still challenging..Just a wider palette to choose from..peace
  14. Dear lady T: My family has been praying for your family's safety...prayers answered..Now we hope your home is habitable ASAP..DCP Strong!!!!..peace
  15. Blessings and good vibes to your sister, you and your family members..peace
  16. So, if I understand you correctly, by this point the discussion about the EAGLES chances of winning the Super Bowl is now moot..Oh well, back to drum corps..peace
  17. I don't know anything about corps personnel changes, but one should consider the team that put together the King of Great Britain's ascension to the throne, for GE visual....What a production!...peace
  18. New Volvo promotion uses ( You guessed it) "Right Here, Right Now" prominently through the 30 second commercial..Actually I'm hearing it everywhere!!....coincidence?...I Think Not!!
  19. I'm not a professional musician, but to my ear, the electronic bass sound that is so pervasive, almost eliminates the Contra/Tuba dynamic...Also, I've noticed more help being given to other brass sections, particularly at points of crescendo...The keytar player from Bloo ( as good as he was) often overshadowed some of the brass statements .If that was what was intended, mission accomplished but I miss the pure brassiness unadulterated..However, when electronics are used discreetly, it definitely adds to my listening experience, like the celloist from F Troop..all the above is just my opinion..peace
