  1. According to whom? Again, according to the people in the green shirts - not so much. If Phantom (and by proxy...their faithful) are win at all costs, why are we only celebrating the second title? If it was truly, win at all cost, then I would think we would have wrapped up 10-12 titles by now, no? (and before anyone else starts foaming at the mouth, that was a random number...) Funny, you have beat your drum (and torn your shirt) repeatedly about how classless the Phantom fans are but you are portraying the hypocrite perfectly now. The victor has been crowned and you take the opportunity to not recognize it. It's fine. We're used to it. Work in a hanging chad and some loose change, and maybe you can have a viral campaign on youtube. But, do me a favor, when you decide to come back and talk about how classless we fans are, please IM me. It makes it easier to forward to the mods as abuse. I disagree. As I eluded to before, I think a good deal of Phantom Phormers post to what you say because you have nothing good to say about us or our corps. So, perhaps you see it is a disproportionate response of Phans to YOU, but only because from your mouth (or fingers in this case) spews nothing but hatred for Phantom. I hope that you can enjoy your off season. You have your Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, Vanguard, Cavaliers, Blue Devils and Cadets to look forward to. Oh, and though you may not like the decision that the judges put on the sheets, theirs is the one that counts. So enjoy! And silvertrombone, I agree - it still looks weird to me. It will sink in before too long, hopefully.
  2. My wife and I woke to travel to the doctor to confirm that we were pregnant. We sat in the lobby and the inane chatter and top 100 music from the speakers was replaced by what seemed to be unreal announcements of reports of what happened that morning. When they said a plane, I thought it was a piper cub or cessna. I asked the lady across the aisle if this was a prank, and she looked at me and said "this is for real". Word of the second crash came, and then the Pentagon and the crash in PA. A pall came over the room - and I felt broken. We tried to push forward - - after all, we were about to find out that we were having a baby. The doctor was understandably late because he was stuck at the hospital watching the same footage we were hearing reported to us. After finding out some of the most wonderful news of our life, we traveled home to watch the footage - over, and over, and over. It did, does, and always will seem surreal.
  3. Was Pittsfield the stadium on the baseball diamond, that was in front of the other side of tracks that you had to cross to get to the show? Or is that another stadium? If it was, man - that was a horrible drum corps stadium.
  4. If you're going to inappropriately connect issues, at least get your facts straight. The incident, of which YOU speak, occured in 1992. Keep in mind that the OP of this thread answered in response to a rumor (please see Bawker's above response).
  5. Again, don't let emotion get confused for fact. This thread was created in response to a rumor. Greg was confirming the rumor. He was putting the rumor to rest. But, as all things DCP go, no one wants to focus on the fact. If you are disputing the MANNER in which Greg stated the facts, then that is a preference and opinion. Not a fact.
  6. A few added thoughts by me as well (Keep in mind that I am a former member and current honk, so I have NO objectivity : The title of the rumor thread was: with the lead being: 1. The OP of the RUMOR thread (please see link at the beginning of this thread) created a DCP account 8/14/08. IMO, it was an account created to start the rumor, because the OP had been scooped. Since then, that account has seen no other posts. 2. The post came on a Friday afternoon - the Friday afternoon after finals. More than likely, the "Powers that Be" are getting re-acclimated to life back home (jobs, family, lesson plans, etc). I remember in the old days when DCI was in Lombard (not too long ago) the headquarters were closed for a little bit until the proverbial "smoke" cleared from the previous season. I would be willing to bet that there will be a press release shortly. I would think that had this post come about on, I don't know, say a Monday morning, shortly thereafter, everyone would have gotten the "official" release that they were looking for. 3. It is obvious to me (and this is just using deductive reasoning, here) that the OP of the rumor thread wanted to get it (the unconfirmed rumor) out in the open for rabid speculation as quickly as possible. 4. Greg came on here and stated 2 facts: The rumor was confirmed, and that the details were between the Corps proper and Mr. Sage. (FWIW, I am neither an official nor an unofficial spokesperson for PR - all opinions are honking mine, and honking mine alone.) This is a 100% guarantee: Had the facts played out the EXACT way everyone here has stated they should have, there would still be a contingent who decried PR as playing bad pool. So, the DCI hot stove league has started early this year. Keep in mind that there are 2 sides to every story.
  7. My understanding was that in 86 there was a complete drill re-write in the middle of the season. In 88 I marched with some people who were in from 86. Anyone who marched care to comment? Jeff, Mark?
  8. right before the big hit soprano unison in the diagonal, someone (rumors as to WHO it is) yells "Judges, are you watching?"
  9. Looking up at the crowd after everyone had shed their helmets and jackets (and some...horns) after the Bachanale in 1991. The wedge at the end of Fire of Eternal Glory in 1993. The company front and push in 1987. The Amen in Ave Maria "Judges...are you watching...?" to the end "NINE EIGHT POINT ONE............." Listening to a rabid crowd (in the finale) clamor to yell "I AM SPARTACUS!"
  10. if THEY don't want THEIR material online, then it is THEIR prerogative to police it and ask for "The site which shall remain nameless" to remove it. You can buy the DVD's and CD's when they come available this fall. Or, visit here and buy something from the virtual souvie stand.
  11. 100% agree! Thanks to the BD Blog Team for keeping a clean, well run show with live updates.
  12. Though there in spirit (and scores by cellphone), you made me feel like I was a part of this. I don't care if this is in reviews or discussions - you have made me very happy by reading this. Thanks for sharing! SUTA! Chris
  13. If Carolina Crown or Cavaliers had won, would you ask for the same clarification?
  14. I said it somewhere else - I feel that Crown is on the cusp of something very special. Not that tonight wasn't.
  15. Looking back... Phantom Wins (outright...no tie) Blue Devils with but ONE defeat all year. 24 Year scoring (semi's to finals) trend ends Carolina Crown Contending Top 4 going into Quarters within .5 Blue Stars back in finals WITH A BULLET Men of Madison back in the finals dance ...sooooo Competitively, this is (IMHO) the best year ever. Stacked from top to bottom.
  16. Hey - Crown is great! I would not want to be the judge having to separate the top 4 - or 7 - for that matter. It's great that you have your opinions. I think that my former corps (and I carry around a herald honk trumpet) is worthy of first. Meaning they have and are performing at a level that I think could put them in the top. Will they win? I care as a fan because I want them to. If they don't I will be neither surprised nor bitter. I will still be happy, because they will have produced a show that people will remember - a show that had a positive effect on me. A show that will be considered a "Classic". I think that the midwest has always been a pretty good "breadbasket" for drum corps. To assume that by not having Phantom in the top 2 will effect the masses attendance of DCI events certainly does thumb a collective nose at other fine corps from the area - the least of which have homes in Madison, Milwaukee, LaCrosse, and, oh yeah - Rosemont. And the fans of the latter have certainly proven their loyalty to their fraternity by pledging a substantial amount of money to their organization. Bringing financial records in from the past is nothing more than a cheap gimmick used to besmirch another's reputation. You are mad that who YOU want to win is not, so you are going to tear down whoever you think you are better than. So, if that is your goal - to point out that they have financial woes - great success. And since you have the ultimate concern of the destitute Midwest at front of mind, and you have the financial sense that is greater than a moth, perhaps you could lend your grasshopper skills towards righting the financial boat of the entire DCI organization - not just Phantom. Go ahead and develop a strategy for hedging fuel costs, attract prospects to march and not just watch the show on the FN, maintain the budget, operating expenses and salaries in an inflating market, compete with the internet, video games, and athletics, and make an entertaining show. Or come onto an anonymous forum and mudsling. 50% success. Crown has as much right to use music that Regiment played in the past as anyone else does. In 1812, I am not insulted by their music, but think it is a wink and a tip of the cap when they do the company front and guard stepover - sort of an homage. It's pretty cool to me. Crown is loud, big, excellent, and VERY entertaining. I really like their show. They have a very nice drum corps. In fact they have a Great drum corps who is on the cusp of something very special
  17. re: 1993. Just wait. the crowd gets CRAZIER.
  18. If you say it three times in front of a bathroom mirror, the shark from VK will eat you.
