  1. Not talking about G's Jeff. Talking Bb brass with G bell shapes.
  2. Many corps make a healthy profit every single year by selling their freshly used horns. The only difference would be the bell shape. I'm sure corps would still be able to have success in the resale market.
  3. Agreed ... but I'm curious why other manufacturers aren't exploring the same idea.
  4. There is a company out there making Bb Soprano Bugles. And it doesn't sound like it was that hard to make (yes that's sarcasm). http://andaluciami.com/. <------Arturo Sandoval approves!!! Take a modern standard Bb trumpet, hack off the bell from the valve casing ..... and add a King K-20 bugle bell or a DEG Powerbore bell. Mellophones are basically identical to G mello's ... they just dropped a step and kept the same shape and bell. But Bari's, Euph's and Tub's could do the same thing by changing the bell shape on Bb instruments. It wouldn't devalue the resale opportunity. It doesn't change the intonation of the horn. It just adds more COLOR capabilities for the player. KAPOW, bright, sizzle, ringing, normal, warm, dark and everything in between. Current instruments might go to ringing ... but sizzle bright and KAPOW options are dead.
  5. 1987 Star - The Circus Show. Great concept but some things bordered on cheese. 1992 Star was very very good ... again, over the top starz and stripez up the wahhhhz. I'm not picking on you Star, I promise. I thought those were both excellent corps that would have placed higher with some smarter design. Growing pains I guess. I can list tons of BAD concepts ... but that's OT
  6. Everything is working for me. I just closed the website tab. Schedule is up and the article
  7. I just read the article and checked the schedule. It's all working fine for me.
  8. Back when breaking ranks meant a broken face ...... this sort of thing never happened.
  9. not for nothing ...... But the first 2 paragraphs of this article have nothing to do with the summation in paragraph 3. Lining up in 2's, on your feet 12 hours a day, etc etc etc .... that's just normal drum corps. If you're trying to prove negligence based on those factors ..... good luck. The real problems have nothing to do with hard work. It has everything to do with mismanaging legal situations (which were not part of this report). Tying the Troopers situation to Hopkins is pretty grotesque. There's a difference between a monster and someone who may be in over their heads. Ellen Gerst - The reporter of this story, shouldn't be writing stories. This is just rotten journalism with a large helping to cancel culture.
  10. Coldest ever was DCA prelims in Rochester NY. I think it was Hurricane Ernesto. It was about 40 degrees and was dropping a foot of rain per hour. Horizontal rain ...... it was painful and cold. I got back to the hotel and sat in the shower on super hot until I could feel my thighs again....... 45 minutes later.
  11. She may not be educated to a high level about drum corps ... but her 1993 Star reaction proved to me that: 1. She's learning 2. She has very good instincts/intuition This was enjoyable.
  12. Now that there are no judges on the field, I'm not sure this question could be answered for the battery. I for one, don't think there would be a problem with this book because it's very musical. Maybe needs a few more features for exposure. With regards to the pit, it would need some heavy upgrades.
  13. My first show as a Cadet was in Somerville, Mass. in 1990. Quietest crowd in my entire drum corps experience ... until we finished. You REALLY had to win those folks over in Crusader Land. I just remember tight tunnels, lots of brick and wrought iron gates. It was a very VERY unique experience.
  14. Based on most of the comments I've seen so far there are some obvious conclusions. Texas is #1 by a wide margin. The Midwest states are strong. News to some of you - Michigan is highly underrated. They use sheets identicle to BOA and use mostly BOA judges. Most of the competing bands do NOT use mandatory marching requirements and are almost entirely funded by their booster organizations ... not the school district. Meaning, if you want to be in concert band, you don't have to do marching band. This is heavily required in Texas. The top bands in Michigan are in EVERY flight classification - as they're broken up by school size, not band size. Using 2019 as an example. Here are the scoring ranges and averages of the top 5 bands from each flight (total 25) of the 50 bands that qualified for state championships: Flight 1 - Range 89.3 - 94.325 (avg. 91.17) Flight 2 - Range 87.8 - 93.475 (avg. 90.73) Flight 3 - Range 85.975 - 91.275 (avg. 88.9) Flight 4 - Range 85.35 - 91.3 (avg. 88.47) Flight 5 - Range 86.25 - 89.225 (avg. 87.565) Rockford and Plymouth placed 19th and 24th in Grand National Semi Finals at BOA for 2019. Rockford had the highest score in the state. Whereas, Plymouth (a former National Champ) had 10 bands score higher than them at the Michigan State Championships. Jenison was 26th yet outscored Plymouth by 3 points at States. I would argue that if Michigan (and more states like them) had higher representation at Nationals, their placements would be perhaps more dominant .. but most assuredly have a stronger argument in this conversation.
  15. Cadets just made a statement in their solute to the 2020 corps. https://www.facebook.com/cadets.org/videos/3556363001090975/ Denise Bonfiglio speaks at 01:18:35 addressing the question.
  16. I'm excited to see what Drew produces at Crossmen (especially working with Lee). I like his writing. It hasn't always been interpreted well by Caption Managers .... but his books have been very good.
  17. For those wondering about virus mutation, there are some excellent reports reposted on YouTube regarding mutation. If I'm not mistaken, it was reported that the virus that hit the EU had already mutated from what hit in Washington. The reports came out back in April. Yale : Bangkok reporting on Cambridge University studies:
  18. Well now that the President tested positive .... I'll hold my breath until the knee jerk reactionary decisions are complete. **Down Periscope**
  19. Just found this gem ... July 1st .. super early.. but you can actually hear the low brass and the pit isn't drowning you out like the finals video.
  20. up to my eyeballs in motor juices of various types. This is always the time of tour where something major breaks.
