  2. Use a rolling average; a present show's caption score added to the previous show's caption score divided by two = standing score. Next show use the already established "standing score" (caption related) adding present show's caption score divided by two in order to establish the newest "standing score". On and on to garner the seeding score. Hence the prelim line-up and "season" caption awards, for the championships all wrapped up in one. For championships either all captions should have simply one adjudicator, or every caption should have more than one adjudicator, as a suggestion.
  3. There appears to be exhibition groups at both shows---according to the websites of Brass and Govies. The Kilts left Thursday evening and traveled as far as Chippewa Falls, WI--staying overnight there and having a rehearsal block today. The rehearsal block was cut short at about 1pm when rain came in. The corps departed Chippewa Falls for Mendota Heights around 3pm, stopping in route to grab a bite to eat. These Friday gigs can be challenging especially being later this year with the 5 weekends in August---many college band camps and college auditions going on.
  4. For what it's worth; many think the same way........ Having been there, experienced it, lived it..............imho, it was!
  5. Actually, everything is speculation until Saturday, Sept. 5th.
  6. Igor Peter (aka: "i.p.") Daley has left his position as Lavatory Logistical Urinal Block Coordinator at Lucas to take a position and give a creative hand as Design Consultant for the International Competitive Snow Script Writing Association. It's a seasonal position.
  7. Many times it depends on what is exactly written within the edges of the contractual piece(s) of paper. If an organization, or any corporation for that matter, has a contractual financial agreement (i.e.loan) and the terms of the contract are being met--there should not be any issue. The holder of "the paper" only has one concern, that being---are the terms being met. I have never seen a bank teller, bank auditor, bank officer, etc. flippin' burgers or asking "would you like fries with that?" at the local McDonald's just because the franchisee had a loan with their financial institution. This is not directed to any organization or business per sie, but rather simply a general statement in how to properly conduct business in a professional fashion. At sometime, someone has to put their "big boy" pants on if they have failed to do so from the onset.
  8. By-laws should offer (in writing) what authority (i.e. duties) each executive officer has; if they are ambiguous---there lies the issue in any organization; otherwise it's akin to chasing feathers in the wind, a lot of flailing action with no results. Nothing will change in any organization if procedures and protocols are not followed in some constructive fashion. At some time or another, someone has to "grow a set" One thing should be noted; if any member of any BOD has their personal name (on the line) in the form of contractual obligations (financial or otherwise)---then one could appreciate a vested interest in the running of any organization; although one would hope that vested interest would be passive in nature and the organization has a guarantee to hold the person from harm by assignment of collateral or a surety bond of sorts---as a peace of mind.
  9. A Board of Directors fundamentally should make sure the mission statement, policies, protocols and procedures of an organization (as a whole) are kept and be "the" force in raising funds for the organization as the two top priorities; with raising funds (and budgetary matters) as the top priority of the two. Anything beyond those areas is "stickin' one's nose where it don't belong". Since typically a BOD hires a CEO; the CEO deals with the "day to day" and structures responsibilities flowing downward (from the CEO). Any structural deficiencies (real or perceived) should be reviewed by the BOD from the CEO down and remedied. If a BOD does their fiduciary duties correctly without preconceived notions on what their role is or hidden agendas---things tend to operate smooth and professional. **All that and 50 cents still only gets me a senior cup of coffee at the local McDonald's.
  10. When drum corps, marching bands and marching arts came out from the shadows as a truly quiet obscure niche' activity, that is when the potential for $$$$ hit the publishing houses. Although still a niche' activity; it's no longer quiet and obscure----hence the activity reaped what it sowed. Coupled with the fact money (and in some cases a "nice chunk') is being made by designers, arrangers, directors, instructors, etc. off of the work of composers---why should the copy-write holders not be compensated? After-all, others are reaping rewards by performing the holder's works. If the marching/performing arts activity wants to play "big business"; they have to play by the big boy rules.

  12. It's a stretch now considering one is a legal adult in the U.S. at the age of 18. Pushing the age limit might very well give cause for those offering funding, grants, etc. to the activity to reconsider, inasmuch would they give to organizations of mostly young adults...or to Boy's and Girl's Clubs, etc, etc.
  13. I would suggest dropping the black uniform experiment for the corps proper and returning to their normal unis for this evening, would have positive effect.
  14. It sometimes depends on the DCI panel and their familiarity with DCA sheets and how many on a particular panel. It's always a "crap shoot" as the adjudicators are there to evaluate the DCI corps----the important part of the DCI performing experience for DCA corps---are the judges comments, not necessarily the scores.
  15. Yes..........for official seeding purposes and otherwise.
  16. 1997, won the DCM Championship after placing 2nd in prelims. Although, only 2 corps were allowed to compete in the finals at DCM in that division---most years it was Kilts and Brass.
  17. The first Saturday after the month of July.........................
  18. Nice finally meeting you Gary!! Thanks to all the corps attending; and please put the first weekend in August of 2016 down as the Kiltie Klassic weekend---- ------------------you all have a standing invitation!
  19. In just a couple days..................................... https://www.facebook.com/events/913215202072276/
  20. Typically, and personally, I only help those I know---or know their family. Nothing ever goes from my wallet to a corps directly--any corps, other than one I am involved with. If the member is 18 years or older (i.e. an adult)---I slip him some "walking around money" for the season, which (if they're smart) can be applied to any member fees, etc. or with that extra "walking around money"---frees up other funds to go towards their corps obligations. If they are under 18----the "walking around money" is given directly to the parents and I tell the kid (in front of his or her parents) that they were just given "such and such" (amount of money) for drum corps-----and "work it out with your folks". Sometimes is just feels okay to give.......just for giving, rather than a tax deduction.
