MikeD, he was responding to me. I left a comment about what he originally said to you. As for Cop, I'm not really looking to start an argument. I believe that the fact that this is a thread on Scouts should allow a wide variety of opinions on their performances. Mike was NOT negative in any way with his response, as he stated that there are other years that he prefers. Why did you feel the need to attack him for giving his opinion--are opinions no longer allowed here? For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the Scouts show on Saturday. They're light years ahead of where they were this time last year!

Are you kidding? I was at the show last night, were you? Crown had one of the largest crowd reactions of the night. I was sitting on the 50 halfway up, and I saw a significant number of people on their feet on the final chord of their show. They were amazing! And no, I'm not overhyping them at all--I saw their rehearsal yesterday and felt like they were a little flat. The show was a different story...they turned it on. I can't wait to see them again later this season!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay! Here's a nice present--I got a new camera and took about 230 pictures tonight. Below are a selected few to hold you guys over....: -
Why are some jouralists such morons?

Another journalist checking in here (I only have a couple of years of professional newspaper experience, though!)--and let me say, this thread has been very painful and frustrating to read. To the journalism student, sure...it's great that you want to educate the reader but in the end, you only have so much space. Try to explain the difference between drum corps and marching band in your story about a Fourth of July parade. Oh wait, you can't do that because you only have 12 inches to work with. The honest truth is that a vast majority of the public could not care less about the differences in a drum corps and marching band. Like someone else said, to the uninitiated we will ALWAYS be marching bands. It is a broad term that includes drum corps. I've never understood why so many people get offended by the usage of band in drum corps stories. As Michael Boo said, don't bite the hand that feeds you. I had to practically fight my editor to allow me to cover a drum corps for two days. In my story, I made sure to use the word drum corps and explain the differences. You know what happened? In the end, they replaced "drum corps" with "marching band" because that's the most accessible term to the readership. It's nothing to get offended over. There are much more important things to worry about other than criticizing journalists for "not researching their topics". In my case, I marched drum corps, I knew the differences and still had it changed on me by my editors. Instead of 9 pages of ranting about word choice, how about worrying about the long term health of DCI? -
This post combined with your username is pretty funny.

Wow, Oregon Crusaders had a great kickoff

The better question is what corps does NOT carry a copy machine in their bass drum? Both corps I marched carried them. -

HONK! WOoooooo Academy

The OP sounds jealous that his corps isn't scoring as high as Academy. Like was said in another thread, I got burned out the most during strings of rehearsal days, not being out on the road touring. OP--did you march? Usually that doesn't impact someone's opinion, but in this case it does.

I have completely flat feet, and honestly...it was awful at times. After a while, I just became used to the pain. I should've had custom inserts made like everyone else!

That seals it. Thread closed. ....at least, that's what should happen! :P -
Best DCP thread ever.

Congrats, do you want a cookie or any stuffed animal from the bottom row of prizes? I agree--the 'easy' comment was ridiculous...but it was so ridiculous that you didn't need to say that. Some of the arrogance dripping from it got on my shoes and I don't appreciate that.

How does DCI find thier Required reading.
ampfan replied to WesHender's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
This summer, I was an intern at a newspaper out on the East Coast and I wrote an article about drum corps for the newspaper I was at. I simply emailed the link to the DCI.org webmaster, and it was up within a couple of days. -
Man, am I with you...it's a show title! Not a discussion about how much you hate new school drum corps, not a discussion about high school bands beating drum corps...it's a show title! Wow. Get over it! If you don't like the Cadets, that's fine. Don't take every opportunity you can to bash them--and this is coming from someone who doesn't care for them.

Yeah Jared, I agree. Funny how one set can change the history of drum corps. It was still an awesome show, and it's one of my favorite non-finalist shows of all time!

While I LOVE BD 2000, I wouldn't say it was very clean. See that block going across the backfield in the opener? Nowhere close to clean. Can't forget the ticker on the tag ending, either. -
Funny how a simple question that has already been answered is turned into a "OLD SCHOOL IS BETTER!" debate. Again.
