  2. I really like the show. I do wish they had a few more member, especially in the guard, to sell the production even more. Hopefully, this is a great sign for the future of the corps.
  3. Since I used to teach in Texas (San Antonio and Austin) I have been to the Alamodome several times. There are lots of places the eat around there, especially on the Riverwalk. I recommend walking over to the old world's fair area and take a ride up the tower. There is also an excellent Mexican food restaurant right by. The Alamo is close by. The missions are located south of the city. Terri - What year did you march Guardsmen? I sent up a student to march rifle. This was many years ago!
  4. I do like most of the shows this year. I like Crown's show; however, I do get tired of hearing "right here, right now." I think it would help them to cut back a little. Some guard's outfits seem to be too close in color to the rest of the corps. I am impressed with the talent level this year. I am wondering why some of the guards are smaller in number compared to past years?
  5. I don't know what takes place in other forums on the Internet, but I don't understand why members or fans bash certain corps. I remember in '94 when talking to Phantom Regiment members while on tour with the Cadets how people were saying awful things about them on DCP. I have seen this happen against many corps throughout the years. I am not that technologically advanced. I don't have a cell phone and don't even know how to hit the ignore button! I am a work in process!
  6. PR's show is very fan friendly. The brass has such a nice tone quality and when they let loose they blow your socks off! 🙂. I am so glad that I got to see them live.
  7. I really like the Colts show; however, they have a pretty small guard and it doesn't seem to be as strong as previous years. The corps mostly stays between the 35 yard lines which may hurt their scores. Troopers seem to keep on improving and could grab that 12th spot. Even though they are pretty good, I don't care for Crossmen's show this year. I blame the designers for this. Academy isn't improving that much from the beginning of the season. I see some potential in this show, but I don't think enough necessary changes and cleaning can take place prior to Indy to jump them up to 12th.
  8. Members 467 Location:Lenexa, Kansas Posted just now I just got home. from the show. All corps performed well and most were marching holes. I wouldn't put too much concern in the score tonight. Cavaliers were very exciting tonight. They must have added a couple more guard members since the earlier shows that I saw on video. They did march a couple holes tonight. The horn line sure has some difficult playing! Though the guard is very good, there were at least 5 drops tonight. This show will score high by the end of the season. It is entertaining and complex. This score will move up very quickly once everyone is back healthy.
  9. Members 467 Location:Lenexa, Kansas Posted just now I just got home. from the show. All corps performed well and most were marching holes. Phantom Regiment has a really nice sound and tone quality. I really like this show live. They use the field well and their horns produce a big sound. I am still unsure of the large purple fabric they use in the ballad. I like them more in person than on video. There were times when the props didn't line up properly, especially towards the end of the show. This is one of my favorite shows of the year!

This is a very good corps. The group that I was with felt that some of the color choices could be better. I also am wondering if using that many props may hold them back. Anyhow, there is a lot of potential in this show.. Once this show gets cleaned up and a few adjustments are made, I think the Blue Stars could make some noise!
  11. Members 467 Location:Lenexa, Kansas Posted just now I just got home. from the show. All corps performed well and most were marching holes. Madison Scouts had some good moments. There is a definite difference in sound between them and Blue Stars, Phantom Regiment, and Cavaliers. I do see a lot of improvement in design from previous years. Colts have a nice show. I wish they marched a larger guard as I feel this is hurting them. I also would have more field coverage as they were in between the 30 yeard line for most of the show. Their trombones really play! Phantom Regiment has a really nice sound and tone quality. I really like this show live. They use the field well and their horns produce a big sound. 13. After finally watching the show on camera up high and I now a better read on the drill. I don't think there is any way the show ends up below 7th place. It might end up in 6th. To me, the guard uniforms blend in too much with the horn line. It may have a different effect in person. The beginning and middle of the show are wonderful.
  14. I need to say that I have always and still do have respect for the Regiment organization.
  15. After watching Troopers, I feel the last spot will come down between Crossmen and Colts.
  16. I have now watched the entire show 3 times on video (last competition). I did not get a great read on the drill as the video was about midway up the stands. It was very difficult to get a read on the guard. I don't know if it is because of the video location, color scheme, or guard placement on the field.
  17. This is sad. I remember watching a Phantom rehearsal several years ago and listening to guard staff in the stands (probably techs) talk negatively about the males in the guard. I was surprised they did this around other people. I was a couple rows up in the stands and could hear them. I actually felt bad for the males in the guard knowing that staff members actually hated them so much.
  18. Mandarins will more than likely be in finals. That leaves Crossmen, Troopers, and Colts fighting it out for the last spot.
  19. The corps, especially guard and horn line, appear a little smaller this year. Did PC have a difficult recruiting this year? Perhaps Gold will provide 4 contra players to PC.
  20. Is the corps solid is all captions this year?
  21. I have to say after watching the show a few times on television (not in person) that I really love this show. I think it is designed very well. The guard is staged and performing top notch and the brass line is at a high level. I am not a percussionist so I can't comment on that area. The corps uses the entire field and draws the people into their show.
  22. Too bad the Cavies and Colts don't have more members in their guards. This could hurt them at the end.
