BEST photo of the year!

The Troopers have a long storied tradition of classy drum majors. Start with Pete Emmons,...he WAS the reason I joined drum corps(and not the Troopers) Jim McIntire,...another class act. Mike Depaumalare,.....carried it on. Those are the ones I knew personally,...I am sure there were many to follow,...but they set the standard demanded by Mr. Jones. -
Question about Flag Presentation
Appleknocker replied to dccorpsfan's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
Very understandable answer to a hard question. It is probably harder to understand for someone who didn't march back then, or see what it was like. I do know that it was a nightmare for the drill writer,....he had to have everything just so, or there would be major penalties. -
BEST photo of the year!
Appleknocker replied to Granny Smith's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
There are so many things wrong with this picture. American Flag not guarded. Improper respect for the flag. Not a historical retreat as in the days before DCI, when all corps had a guarded American Flag, and all corps trooped and saluted each and every flag that they paraded in front of. -

I was at Allentown the other night and observed a guy wearing a "Royal Aire" jacket talking smack about " St.Vinnie's",....and I called him on it right then and there. Drop it already....... -
She spent the entire day with the corps to do this piece,....and did an amazing job, not only for the Blue Stars, but for all drum and bugle corps. She and Channel 8 deserve a big thank you.

Cell Phones on Tour
Appleknocker replied to tboneloser22's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
This is unbelievable,...arguing about cell phones. Many parents have responded to this perceived need for personal security by purchasing cell phones for their children, but this, too, has had some unintended consequences. One sociologist has noted that parents who do this are implicitly commenting on their own sense of security or insecurity in society. “Claiming to care about their children’s safety,” Chantal de Gournay writes, “parents develop a ‘paranoiac’ vision of the community, reflecting a lack of trust in social institutions and in any environment other than the family.” As a result, they choose surveillance technologies, such as cell phones, to monitor their children, rather than teaching them (and trusting them) to behave appropriately. James E. Katz, a communications professor at Rutgers who has written extensively about wireless communication, argues that parents who give children cell phones are actually weakening the traditional bonds of authority; “parents think they can reach kids any time they want, and thus are more indulgent of their children’s wanderings,” Katz notes. Not surprisingly, “my cell phone battery died” has become a popular excuse among teenagers for failure to check in with their parents. And I suspect nearly everyone, at some point, has suffered hours of panic when a loved one who was supposed to be “reachable” failed to answer the cell phone. Let the kids grow up as they choose,....if they are in a corps that prefers not to use cell phones, let them decide,...let them grow up. -

If you wanted to imagine a true Grand Slam, or Triple Crown, it would have to be one of these two, CYO or World Open,....along with American Legion and VFW Nationals.
