  1. My $.02 I was there when the front line had to RUN back to the truck and unload EVERYTHING which had been put away for the trip back to Madison, screaming at the top of our lungs the whole time. good times, folks! BTW, I still am not ready to give my actual response to the original post...this one doesn't count!
  2. I remember that, as an ageout, I had to register as an Explorer Scout leader (can't be 21 and an Explorer, I guess). For a year after that I got mail from BSA about how to be a better scoutmaster...
  3. Add Madison to the list, at least in 1984. Weren't Troopers also matched about then?
  4. I'm the proud owner of both the "I Can Cook, Too" and original 2-valve sop Lemon Squeeze shirts, as well as a choice supply of vintage shirts I'm saving for my son! he's about big enough for the '83 Vanguard snare line shirt! Matt
  5. I was just about to respond to the thread about forbidden composers on the WC page- I saw the '88 BD horn line many times. One of my favorite drum corps moments EVER was standing in the middle of the '91 BD horn warm up at Allentown. Goosebumps on the arms, Hair standing up on the back of my neck, Urine running down my leg... need I say more?
  6. I've used these Chris Thompson lines many, many times...allegedly... "are you screwing that up on purpose, or are you just stoopid?" also: "whassit gonna be- you gonna play it right, or you want a knuckle samwich?" I almost hesitate posting these in fear that CT might show up at my door and make me do push ups...
  7. HEY! They needed to have a VERY IMPORTANT close up of the kettle-drummist! ...which they have edited a lot in recent years. seriously, the camera angle on the semifinals tape is much better (and the kettle-drummist gets a camera shot in the drum solo when playing the kettle-drums and cowbell at the same time!).
  8. I thought Steve marched 2nd bass in '81... I remember one of the few pep talks we got in '88 going "I started in a magic year and I'm ending in one too..." ...not that '82 wasn't a great year for Madison also! (just googled- Scouts alumni database confirms the 1981 season!)
  9. yep, that's Jim. Cymbals '82, Sop hole '83, then Timpani from '84 to '87. He was on Colts staff after that, but I haven't seen him in years. His dad taught percussion for years at UW Madison as well.
  10. That was the reverse-lug semi free floater, right? For those who never saw them, they had a standard maple shell, with an extra 10 (?) plies around the top head to stand the kevlar. The lug casings attached on the shell like before, but the exterior went straight down, and the metal had a half moon cutout, letting the shell resonate better. we used them at Madison in 89-91 before going with the free floater/premier design as I recall. Or, I could be old and remember everything wrong...
  11. 2000- the Cossack Brotherhood (timps on the field and on the 50, rest of pit angled to audience right).
  12. ...and Kevin Feeney THREW the cone without penalty...every night...all summer long...and replaced the 50 cone with his hat...with a resounding (yet unspoken) OUR FIELD... best penalty ever!
  13. ...heck, when I wore that uniform it even smelled like Burger King!
  14. I agree, so my vote goes to... GRYFFINDOR!!! I mean... 1984 Blue Devils!!!
  15. I could easily say Madison 1981. but I wont. Star 1990!
  16. People, people- the correct answer is 1999 Madison Scouts.
  17. Put me down for the 2001 Madison Scouts as well!
  18. At least there's two of us! Lord knows how many times I rewound that VHS!
  19. As I recall- "we don't hate you, but we don't speak the same language"- answering every question in Dutch or Japanese. As a member ('88-'90) we were aware of the tapes- often used on the bus for mild mannered abuse. "Snare second from the right end is falling out of this roll...rewind...falling out of this roll...rewind... I just prayed every night that they wouldn't talk about the timpanist!
  20. Concerto for Guitar and Jazz Orchestra. The ballad is from the same piece. Same composer (Paul Hart) as Remembrance (1990 and 1998, as well as MSARP)
  21. If you all don't mind I'll keep the green stone in my ring anyway... "Rightfull" or not, it was an exciting night in KC! Back on topic, I haven't seen the end of the PBS broadcast in years- The front line gets a great camera shot of Ms. Pesceone giving out our medals.
  22. Not saying I don't remember correctly, but.. Whitewater (in my recollection) was right before Scouts went to Europe. Sky Ryders were 6th, then (I think) Phantom, Star, and Cavaliers. Bluecoats were 2nd. Scouts were first, with a huge overtime penalty. Madison was, right after we got back from England, 4th at DCM (DeKalb). Were the '88 finals an upset? Sure, I'll grant that. The season, however, stands statistically. Check Corpsreps for clarity! I for one would love to see the random draw again in modified form.
  23. That is the cymbal line plus most of the front line (minus a timp player!).
