  1. Very interesting........ Thank You for your replay One could argue that the Glassmen do indeed have and identity (image) that being the "boring" Corps...One could also argue that the Glassmen have no real identity.... The boring Corps - from my research the boring label started to take root around the 2000 season.... and became a grown tree the 2002 season....What is interesting is that during those 3 years the Glassmen finished 8th, 5th, and 8th......not bad for a "boring" Corps if i do say so myself.....during the 2002 season the Glassmen embraced the boring label and even made a boring tee-shirt....Many know the following year the Glassmen fell to 14th and from that day forward the Glassmen have not made it back into the top 8 nor has the Glassmen been able to shake the boring label...I have read reviews where people were trying to say something nice about the Glassmen show so they ended up saying that they r less boring then in previous years....The Glassmen must do everything in their power to create a show that will leave no doubt in the drum corps fan minds that the days of the "boring" Glassmen label will no longer be valid. No real identity - I have said over the years that each new season the current members of that year create their own identity....This is what makes the Glassmen unique IMHO from all other Corps....The Glassmen do not have to live up to their identity if they had a solid one to begin with....They have the freedom to create any show they want, it's just unfortunate that there have been shows the last handful of years that the audience could not connect with...Having no solid identity has allowed the Glassmen to change their uniforms anytime they want with no backlash...One would think the world would of ended when the Cadets started talking about changing their uniforms....The problem as i see it, the Glassmen have not taken advantage of this freedom....They have created safe and some would say BOA Shows...They have taken little to no risk and have become followers instead of leaders in this activity.....Some Corps would kill to have this freedom that that alum and fans have allowed the Glassmen to have.....PLEASE DO TAKE ADVANTAGE....
  2. Thank you Guardling for your response......... About the 75 Scouts.....You do know that Mason and some of his team are from the 75 Scouts...I forgot about Chris and I am almost sure that Sal was not part of Dan's team...And still I think there were at least 5 or 6 members from the 75 Scouts that were instructors for the Glassmen under Dan..... One would be hard pressed to say someone like Dave Tippit is not relevant today in music...Just saying.... As far as I know one can not use the Glassmen name without the permission from the Glassmen BoD in other words Brian......Trust me on this... a handful of Alum tried this last year I believe and once word got out S^%T hit the fan and it was not nice..... Right now as far as I know we could do something but not use the Glassmen name....The reason for 501 3c is for tax purpose and we could use another name just not the Glassmen and we do want to use the Glassmen name....this has already been looked into from the State of Ohio..... BITD a big fundraiser was the Glassmen haunted School...People as far away as Canada came, it was that big....However lack of help and some damage to the school ended that.
  3. When Dan came over to the Glassmen many on staff were from the 75 Madison Scouts...The Glassmen have very talented people...Yet it seems to me that Brian is looking outside first and maybe inside second when hiring staff...... Just so you know...Not ONCE and I mean not ONCE have I or any other Glassmen Alum that I have talked to ever said they wanted to make creative decisions. Not even a whisper....So PLEASE stop saying stuff like that, it is just not true in the Glassmen. As far as making Corps decisions, there are Alum that are on the BoD and have been there for a while..... Many alum that I have talked to want to be a separate entity from the Glassmen proper so that we will not be mirco manage by Brian...We want to reengage the Alumni and raise money for the Glassmen nothing more nothing less.... So PLEASE stop putting words into my mouth.....
  4. A handful of things can be done to bring the Glassmen in the top 8 once again.... 1. Talk to Dan A. and ask him how he took the Glassmen who at one time had only 49 members to a top 8 placing in his tenure with the Glassmen.... 2. Hire, once again, members from the 75 Madison Scouts and more Glassmen Alum to be on staff..... 3. Money is indeed an issue....Yet to this day the Glassmen has refused to allow the Alumni to set up a separate 501 3c Alumni association on our dime...This is one reason why the Glassmen do not have a lot of Alumni support...There is a lot of money that is being left on the table...Slam me all you want but it is what it is.....The Glassmen must mend fences with the Alumni if they want the money that is left on the table.... 4. I will not go as far was wanting Brian to leave just yet. However, I no longer drink the Brian kool aid....He rules the Glassmen with an iron fist....He needs to be more flexible... People tend to forget that Brian is not the Glassmen....The Glassmen Family is way bigger then one person..... I thought that once Sal came back we would of started to make the move back up to the top 8 once again....However it is clear to me that what they did back in the day is no longer working today.... 5. I cringe every time someone calls the Glassmen boring... It is starting to feel like that is the Glassmen's identity. Which is so not the case...Yet very little is being done to change this feeling among the Drum Corps fan base....It is time to start taking risk and stop playing it safe.... 6. I know some do not like me because I am one of the few that have the stones to speak what many are thinking..... And one would dismiss my words as a bitter old Alum..So be it...It would be a big mistake to dismiss Baja words as a bitter old Alum...He is indeed an insider....He knows what he is talking about....
  5. Nothing against you, but your last sentence is what makes me mad about the OC Div.. not doing more for people to understand the history of the OC Div. In the DCI Era, OC/Class A held their first finals in Philly 1975 ....BDB,SCVC,Teal Sound and others were not around then. Size back then was not an issue nor should it be today.....BITD when making top 25 in World/OC class was something the Glassmen made top 25 in World/Open class with 49 members.....
  6. I really hope Madison thinks twice about joining the TOC next year.
  7. Indeed it would be a good question for the round table forum....To be honest and IMHO the RTF is a one way conversation and a very big joke..I do not remember if I asked that question....However I do remember asking a question about the OC and it has never been answered....
  8. I have been a very strong advocate is getting the OC on the same sheets as WC....Finally, it will happen this year. As far as the difference in OC and WC sheets......good luck in finding the correct answer...I have asked about this for years here on DCP in the OC forum....I have received different answers when I have asked.....The only way to find the correct answer is to have someone post the OC and WC sheets...As of today that has not happened....
  9. I asked DCI why they were only promoting BD, SCV, and the Cadets. DCI replied back that these r the only Corps eligible. Dean
  10. Jeff, I know this is off topic, but I c that BK won the fan favorite. How was the voting done for fan favorite? Thank You in advance.
  11. Here in Indiana every Local TV news org. ran a piece on Mr. Cook. the best one I seen, was a man saying "Instead a moment of silence, let's have a moment of noise" at which time all stood up and let it ripped....... The state of Indiana has lost a great man............ His foundation gave 10s of millions of dollars back to the people of Indiana young and old alike. Mr. Cook was so humble that one would not know that he was the richest man in Indiana....... Mr. Cooks Legacy will live forever in the good that his foundation does for the people in Indiana.
  12. I agree with the above post........There r no Cinderella stories in DCI. there is no parody in DCI. Once i seen that DCI was going on ESPN I knew the ratings we be going downwards year after year. Why? because people new to the activity would get tired of seeing the same Corps in the top spots over and over and over again. Many many people do not watch college basketball, however millions fill out their brackets trying to pick the upsets. Which small team will knock off one of the big schools. Most would agree VCU and Butler to a degree, wore Cinderella's slipper this year. DCI does need a Cinderella story. I will not hold my breath that it will happen any time soon....I forget what year it was but not to long ago Crown beat the Cadets for the first time.....many made a big deal out of it....this activity needs more of that. the Tops Corps r so entrenched that unfortunately we more then likely will see less and less of this happening if the G8 keep getting their way IMHO.
  13. Correct me if I m wrong......... Did not the 2010 Cavaliers screamers us mics to help project their sound?
  14. Thank You so much for these very nice pics. There r 2 more uni. changes............73 when the drum line wore I think blue satin tops...... and the 74-76 uni. Dean
  15. BITD no one ever told me this is a G bugle. I had no Idea nor did I care. When I came back in 2004 I had no idea the switch was being made. I could not tell. Just like most people off the streets. To b honest all I want today is the Corps play whole songs unplugged. Dean
  16. I stopped counting at 8 the number of times the Glassmen have changed their uniforms. Dean
  17. I respect all who agree and disagree with my statements. I know the OC Corps r busy doing other things then worrying about their fan base. That is why my statements where not about the Corps themselves. It's the people who run the OC Div. Its so easy to say I disagree and have nothing to back up why one disagrees. I will make it easy on those who disagree with my disrespect statement. Provide a link on here and proof of anything the OC Div. leaders have done to engage the OC legacy fan base. Once that data is provided and valid in this thread I will do a mea culpa. Dean
  18. Once again someone trying to drive a wedge between the generations. R u aware that everyone who plays baseball from T-ball to AAA baseball use an aluminum bat? However if u want to play in the Major Leagues u will learn to use a wooden bat. One will have to learn that skill or they will not play. the Players need to change. Baseball is not going to change to aluminum bats just because some players cry that it is unfair for them to have to change from aluminum bats to wood. Right, wrong or indifferent. Baseball respect and embrace their long traditions. Unlike DCI.
  19. ngChris-- I m a big supporter of the OC Div. Just read my posting in the OC forum. I even supported ur Corps with money. ur last sentence is way out of line,Please do not put words in my mouth. the OC div. is in no way shape or form a new Div. The only thing new about it is the name. You could of went back to the 70's the years I marched in Class A. The Glassmen has been an Class A Corps longer then an WC Corps. I ask that u go to Corpsrep. and Look at the 75 US Open Class A prelims. And compare that to how many corps went to DCI OC Finals Prelims. U will see there were more Class A corps then OC corps and some of the Class A Corps did no go to finals that year. All one has to do is go reread some of the ideas that were written on what could of been done to celebrate the 35th year that were ignored by the powers the b in the OC Div. and it would of cost little or no money. It is clear u r unaware by the fact......and yes it is a fact the there r thousands of us who have never heard r seen r shows. I m one of the lucky ones. I got to hear my show from 75 a couple of years ago. However i have never seen my show. You asked what can b done to help the OC Div. I said stop ignoring the OC legacy fans. By doing this the OC Div. is leaving thousands of dolor's on the table because of their failure to engage the OC legacy fans. There r many great ideas in the OC forum on how to turn this Div. around if one would only listen. The fact is there r less fans that see an OC show live then in the WC div. However the powers that be think they know what we want from the OC Div.and of course they r wrong. Stop making square widgets when it is clear ur customers want round widgets. Many have given DCI a chance to make round widgets, however, because DCI thinks they know that square widgets r the best thing since slice bread they have refused to make round widgets. So your customers r now taking their money to a different entity that is making round widgets. the disrespect that the powers that b in the OC Div.show the the OC legacy fans, is way worst then what is happening in the WC Div. At least they r trying. the OC Div. could care less about us. Dean
  20. I do not know why the OC Div. has gone out of their way to turn their collective backs on the legacy fans. For that matter the WC Corps do not want us. And the OC Div.has not figured out their history is a lot longer then 10 years.I lost all respect for the OC leaders when the refused to say or do anything to celebrate the 35th year of the first DCI OC/Class A DCI finals. At least the WC made an honest attempt to do something on their 35th ann of their first Finals show. fix this disrespect to the OC legacy fans, maybe just maybe we may want to help support this great Div. Do nothing and u will get nothing in return. Dean
  21. All very good ides. As a matter of fact this very model is in play today. If one would go to an OC Show they will see this model in play. I may be wrong but I think the Spartans came in 3rd, and they were acoustic. Dean
  22. This post here has been reported. This post goes against DCP guidelines. Dean

Drum Corps World * Mark as Spam * Report as Abuse Drum Corps World Did you know? - Top brass...There was an inside joke among DCI brass judges during the 1984 season regarding the six volume levels of brass performance: fore, fortissimo, gorilla forte, blastissimo, BYFBO (ask a friend if you don't know) and HOMN. HOMN stood for "hickies on my neck", meaning the brass sound was so inte...nse it jumped out and bit the judge on the neck.
