  4. I went to comment on The Academy's send off show tonight and realized there wasn't a thread for them. There is now. Anyway, I can't wait to see the reaction this corps gets in 2 weeks when they unveil their show. I loved what we heard and saw tonight. They have about 2/3's of the show on the field right now, and you can tell they have a lot to add into what's on the field to this point. They leave tomorrow for Page and cooler temps, and the chance to focus and finish putting the rest of the show in before starting to fine-tune the whole production. I'm no expert or anything, and I lo
  5. Hi everyone, This is episode 7 of my match up series. In this episode, we will be looking at the Colts and The Academy. In 2017, both corps experienced changes. New uniforms, new staff, etc. Both corps were neck and neck with eachother. This match up should be very interesting to watch in the 2018. Now it time for you to vote. Who do you think will score and finish higher next season? Vote and well will find out.
  6. I don't know about you but it's super cold and snowy here- let's head to Tempe Arizona where it will be sunny and 72 today and spend the week celebrating the Academy! What are your top 1-5 Academy shows? (Optional) What are your 1-3 least favorites from them? You can go into as much or little detail as you like but please please try to keep things positive. For a quick recap in case you missed it and/or want to add your contributions: Week 1- Cavies- 2006 the Machine is the favorite and 2012 15 min of fame is the least favorite. Week 2- Jersey Surf- 2012 Bridgeman

  8. After seeing the Blue Stars and Crossmen compete neck and neck with eachother all season this year, I began to wonder which corps might be in that same situation next season where they are right next to each other in terms of scoring and placement. My tight grouping predictions for next season are the following: Blue Devils v.s. Santa Clara Vanguard Santa Clara Vanguard v.s. Carolina Crown Bluecoats v.s. Cavailers Cadets v.s. Blue Knights Phantom Regiment v.s. Blue Knights Blue Stars v.s. Crossmen Madison Scouts v.s. Mandarins Troopers v.s. C
  9. Check out the revealing and appropriately written and titled Michael BOO! 10/26/2016 Tombstone Story on THE ACADEMY. "The Drum Corpse Bride Graveyard Tour", on dci.org I sure hope DCI Releases on dci.org, video from this show as a Halloween Treat to us DCI fans, It was an absolutely amazing performance: Visually, Muscially, Theatrically, Emotionally and SO Corps Fan Satisfying that even legendary DCI Hall of Famer, Announcer was moved to declare that: "DRUM CORPSE INTERNATIONAL Is Proud to Present: THE ACADEMY. ENJOY!
  10. At the end of June, I wrote a review of the Sacramento Moonlight Classic (see below), which included a lot praise for The Academy. Turns out I was correct!! I remember turning to the folks I was with (BD alums) who thought the show was good, but that they wouldn't make finals because it was too "cute." They didn't mean it as a slam to The Academy, but more of a statement that Judges would score them lower. They were so happy to be wrong! :) The Academy - Tempe, AZ -Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night. The show connects so well with the audience, I believe it will be a fan favorit

  12. What an incredible show! Huge crowd, every Corps put forth a good show, and the weather cooled down in the evening. A perfect summer evening! Below are my thoughts. Feel free to ask questions. The talent level and performance of ALL corps is simply unreal - if anyone thinks Drum Corps is dying, well... you clearly aren't seeing what I am seeing. Wahoo! I didn't take notes, just writing from memory, so please forgive the lack of detail. Open Class Golden Empire - Bakersfield, CA -This Open Class corps is doing great things! I'm glad they are expanding their tour this year an
  13. Lots of agreement early on that this range would be an exciting one to watch as we go into finals. These placement seem to have become consistent since just before San Antonio. So, current placement a lock? percent chance of moving up? percent chance of moving down? Of course if someone moves up, someone has to move down or tie (God forbid). My thoughts: Crossmen: 12th place A LOCK show and performance places them there solidly Troopers: 13th place A LOCK not enough in the show construction to get them higher, too good to move down Colts: 14th place A LOCK this coul
  14. Where the address is not unknown. It's 500 E. Franklin Ave. That's right: there are two shows in Ohio tonight. Much attention has gone to the Tour of Champions show featuring seven corps in Massillon (which is where I'll be), but three hours to the southwest is a ten others are competing at the 35th annual installment of Soaring Sounds in Centerville, which is a suburb of Dayton. (However, there are even more corps, fifteen to be exact, competing in Indiana tonight, at the Open Class Prelims.) Here is the Soaring Sounds lineup: --Cincinnati Tradition (all age) --Academy --Jersey Surf --Pa
  15. I didn't see a thread for tonight's show, so... Drums Along the Rockies - Cheyenne Edition Friday, July 11, 7:30 p.m. MDT Bison Stadium, South High School 1213 W. Allison Rd. Cheyenne, WY 82007 featuring: Pacific Crest Cascades Academy Oregon Crusaders Madison Scouts Troopers Starts in ten minutes. If you're there, post here!
  16. I couldn't find a thread for tonight's "Corps at the Crest, Los Angeles" show in Glendora, which marks the first appearance by the Blue Devils in six days. DCI gives the line-up as: Watchmen Golden Empire Incognito City Sound Impulse Gold Mandarins Academy Blue Knights Crossmen Pacific Crest Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard With a start time of 5:30 p.m. PDT, which was three hours ago. Why the radio silence? Where are southern California's DCP participants?
  17. Legendary jazz composer/arranger Sammy Nestico turned 90 yesterday. Read all about him and the celebration HERE Happy Birthday Sammy!
  18. http://www.arizonaacademy.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=452:announcing-the-2014-design-team&catid=37:news&Itemid=94 Anybody take a look at their staff this year? Their design team alone is already killer. Crown's main designer and their music arranger, and one of the Blue Devils drill writers. That alone is a great start. They have a great visual staff coming in, brass staff is almost identical to previous years so the technique should be the same. Most of the perc staff is coming back, which means Ike is returning for his 3rd year, should be AWESOME!
