Mr. Crimm may not have known....if he HAD known, would it have been appropriate for him to about face, march upfieled a bit, right face, then make his way over to the colors to guard them? Is the upshot of the photo that the Troopers' DM isn't leaving the field until the colors have been struck ahead of him? Either way, it's hard to argue with the sight of a Troopers' drum major, period. For a snarky caption, here goes: "Perhaps that's what the renegades mean by 'anti-pit.'" Thank you. Drive safely.
