Infamous Drum Corps Members

Recommended Posts

It's off season and things on DCP slow down a little. So for fun we've had several posts identifying 'famous' members of the DCI fraternity. How about those 'black sheep'. There must be some out there somewhere. :worthy:

Ewww, this thread could head south really, really quickly. A word to the wise: Names should definitely be left out to protect . . . well, everyone!

Well, "Infamous" for their awesomeness? These names come to mind:

Jeff Fiedler? Cavaliers

Joel Allynne? E O Crusaders (probably spelled his name wrong...)

Doug Tholo? Madison

Rob Carson? Santa Clara Vanguard

Any of the Zimny brothers...

AH... I JUST READ THE "BLACK SHEEP" PART. OK, None of these guys in this post apply, as they were/are all awesome. But I'll leave them here to remind people who the NOT black sheep guys were...

I don't think we want to know the "black sheep" mambers... that's too close to "slander" in my book... LOL

Lucky Day: *Reading telegram* "Three Amigos, Hollywood, California. You are very great. 100,000 pesos. Come to Santa Poco put on show, stop. The Infamous El Guapo."

Dusty Bottoms: What does that mean, infamous?

Ned Nederlander: Oh, Dusty. Infamous is when you're MORE than famous. This man El Guapo, he's not just famous, he's IN-famous.

Lucky Day: 100,000 pesos to perform with this El Guapo, who's probably the biggest actor to come out of Mexico!

Dusty Bottoms: Wow, infamous? Infamous?

We had a mellophone player show up one day to rehearsal with a bullet hole through the bell of his horn. And with no explaination.

Of course, occasionally a certain rudimental base player would show up in an altered state. He dropped the bass drum as he was running to get into formation and proceeded to kick it down the field every time he tried to pick it up, reminescent of a Charlie Chaplin movie. I still laugh when I imagine that scene. Of course the director and his wife were none too pleased.

Not sure I'd call him a black sheep, but definitely infamous in BD - Ladies and Gentlemen, Arthur West! (RIP)

Maybe not infamous drum corps members but, certainly infamous moments shared will us all by pictures that appeared in Drum Corps News in the 60's ... three come to mind ... circa 1965: the kid from the Smithtown Freelancers holing up his pants with one hand while playing the horn with his other in the exit ... 1966: the picture of the Bpt PAL Cadets Color Guard Captain (my good friend Peggy Stirk) at the AL Nats standing ever sabre erect with her shako having fallen down over head to her shoulders - she was escorted off the field by the two rifles ... 1969: Bobby BellaRosa in all his glory marching with Hawthorne coming into a company front, legs kicking high - with his fly down ...
