Scoutnout
I find it imnteresting that many ( Not all ) of the same people who condem Cadets for a character, BD for a prop of a chair or mirror, cavies on a guard uniform and this includes some friends I have in Empire for all those things then justify what Empire does as entertainment / broadway. Why is that 1. Are they better at it? 2. Are their props more professionally made? 3. Do they complete their theme better? 4. Is it more acceptable in DCA? just curious and really not trying to flame , I just don't get the reasoning behind some peoples thoughts on the subject. It really seems to go to the extreme opposites
donincardona
I prefer this thread for Jamestown. The T-birds are looking forward to this show. It's going to be a great match-up and also to see corps from from other lands (well, from down South anyway). Western New York Alumni performs in exhibition as well for the first time in DCA. anybody want to predict the scores between empire & MBI? PAMello
And I'm sorry but if the mental image of a larger than life green wicked witch rolling across the field with a broom in her hand instead of the torch doesn't bring a giggle I don't know what will. I don't want to give it away ... but the witch melts at the end. It's a pretty well known movie, you should rent it.

It really seems to go to the extreme opposites I doubt i'm one of the people you were refering to (since I havent negatively commented on any or the dci corps you mentioned for those things), but i'll give my thoughts anyway. Props and characters can be done well or done poorly, just like marching playing and spinning. Some of the things you listed are absolutely true, and do make a difference in whether those 'extras' are recieved well. For instance, I had no problem with BD's chairs last year, because I think they used them well, and used them enough, without going overboard with it. I wasn't a huge fan of the show for other reasons, but I also wasnt a part of the "burn the Chairs" brigade. Same goes for characters - if it is done well, it can be effective. If the character seems to be wandering, poorly staged, or a nuissance, then it is done poorly. The same thing goes for props...i dont know the history of my own corps all that well yet (just sorta jumped in this year), but I imagine there are some decisions they would like to have back in years past regarding what they put out on the field. How much is too much, of course, is up to each individual's opinion.

Like i said I just find it funny with some people who will scream " This isn't Drum Corps " and say there arent any entertaining shows all in the same breath in DCI but then think its cool Empire does it...either its a great compliment or a huge insult...cant quite figure it out..................Good luck with the rest of the season

There, now you understand drum corps fans

There, now you understand drum corps fans Don't forget: Doing something a corps has done in the last decade or two = rehashing. Doing the same tunes that BD or Madison did in the 80s and have been played a million times since by bad marching bands = ENTERTAINMENT!
