BRASSO
But they have more Facebook friends. The baseball" World Series " is played in the Fall. After baseball teams have won the regular season. These nitwits want to set the teams for the playoffs and World Series NOW ........ for 2011 ! Also....Imagine going to a Venture Capital firm looking for investment seed money to start up your business. The potential investors who might give you the seed money for your new enterprise ask you what your customer support base is. You tell them : " well... we do have a lot of facebook friends " geesus. swell. Edited August 10, 2010 by BRASSO
Jeff Ream
But they have more Facebook friends. what's funny is I am DCI fan...but not of a few of the G7 corps that skews their stats a bit
Cainan
The proposed schedule (all 2011):June 16: San Antonio June 17: Dallas July 11: Omaha July 18: DeKalb July 22: Austin July 29: Murfreesboro July 31: Charlotte Aug 3: Akron Aug 7: Annapolis So let me get this straight... TWO of the SEVEN corps are from California and the closest show to California is in DALLAS? What am I missing here? I say DCI should stand firm and tell these corps that they are either DCI corps or NOT DCI corps. In other words, if Blue Devils and Santa Clara want to go G7, don't let either perform in ANY West Coast DCI shows.

Tyler C.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Phantom Regiment is my favorite drum corps, largely for two reasons: their percussion section as a whole (staff, writing, drum tuning, the whole shabang), and their musical selection. Ever since my first live show (Atlanta '07), I have wanted to march tenors with Phantom Regiment under Paul Rennick. That being said, this WSoDC idea saddens me. The elitism sorely disappoints me, as it seems to go against so many of the values that I thought all great drum corps cherished. I've had plans to audition for Spirit this winter, as they are the closest WC corps to me, but if this sticks, and Phantom Regiment leaves with the others, Spirit will likely become the only corps I march with, instead of being the stepping-stone to Phantom that I once envisioned. The central thought that I keep having is that some young musicians like me will migrate to non-G7 corps, and plenty of them will have top-six talent, thus improving the product of the remaining sixteen corps. Will DCI REALLY be losing that much if those seven corps skip town to start their own circus? Based on this year's current standings, your top six would be Boston Crusaders, Blue Stars, Madison Scouts, Blue Knights, Glassmen, and Troopers. I don't know about you all, but that is certainly a top six I'd pay good money to see. It'd be an amazing Finals week, with my favorite storyline being seeing if Madison could rise up and win it all. Drum corps will remain alive and well. I say let 'em leave. / end scatterbrained rant Edited August 10, 2010 by aNiMaL

rpbobcat
If I'm reading the G7 proposal correctly, there seems to be a contradiction in their "Statement of Purpose". According to the statement, the G7 will still be participating in the DCI tour and their own World Series. Everyone seems to agree that a corps can play to the judges or the fans. It seems to me they're saying they'll be trying to do both. Since I don't think a corps can do 2 seperate shows and since they intend to profit from the World Series, does this mean the G7 will now have to do shows that are "fan friendly" regarless of their scores? Fran Haring
Sigh..I'm still writing our show! We got the rights waaaay too late! Have to finish the closer for the winds and then go back and complete the percussion score.Ugh! If you need a time-saver on the visual side, Mike.... just throw in that crown formation. Fran Haring
In terms of "organizational excellence" (one of the terms stated in this latest proposal)..... wasn't one of the proposed G7 corps (Phantom Regiment) seriously on the ropes financially just a few years ago? Not meant as a shot at Phantom.... perhaps they have significantly improved their financial situation since then.
