BRASSO
So just curious, do you actually see hatred much in drum corps, or do you think it is just a strong disliking that has been misinterpreted as hatred? It's all relative. There are people that hate things, people, other Corps, etc. Drum Corps is a competitive activity and emotions can sometimes run pretty intense. I think, for example, that there is much less hatred in the Drum Corps activity than we see with most sports re. their fans and treatment of other competitive teams. That said, there is a lot of repair work that still has to be done among the DCI Corps Directors. When a proposal is put forth that essentially wants to eliminate over a dozen Drum Corps, you can bet your life that this is considered a form of " hate " if you are the recipient of a proposal that wants to make your Corps die and disappear. Hopefully these wounds can be healed with time. But there is a lot of mistrust that still remains in the air within the DCI community and it will take some time for this to abate, imo. Fortunately, there appears enough decent adults with good sense still within the ranks of DCI that will be vigilant and will not allow the resubmittance of such a destructive, hateful proposal as this in the near future. This is my hope anyway. I'm encouraged with this new DCI Executive Board of Directors that replaced the previous Board. So we'll see what happens during their tenure. But I'm optimistic that things will improve. We'll see. Edited June 1, 2011 by BRASSO
MisterA
I hate a very select few corps. I won't apologize for it so save your breath. As far as giving every single corps a standing ovation, no way. It's for the birds. It's like tipping for poor service. This isn't little league. Not everybody wins and gets a trophy and an ice cream cone. It's a competitive activity participated in by kids who know exactly what they are getting in to. If a corps wants me to stand and clap, they better bring it. They better look at me and say "I dare you to sit. I dare you." I can understand your reasoning, but personally give every corps a standing ovation. I want them to know I appreciate every hard hour under the hot sun they have put in to put on a show for us. I feel bad for the early performing corps that only have 30 members and only 150 people in the stands to see them. And I have never seen a corps perform that I didn't find at least one thing in their show that I liked.
INSIDETHEFORTY
I have, as you may have guessed, been on the recieving end of some very strong negative comments over the years. However, I don't consider it hatred. Those in drum corps who disagree with me simply disagree with me. At times, strongly and vocally, but not to the point of hatred. Many people in drum corps who disagree with me on one point or another are actually some of my best friends and supporters! I have had far more positive and memorable experiencves with corps, directors, staff, fans, corps members, support people and family members than negative. Having the opportunity to meet and spend timne with great people and with people who will do nearly anything to help me means the world to me. Drum Corps, to me, lis the place where we can actually live out the ideals that we often aspire to but fall short of. Drum Corps is a wonderful activity and it's people make it so! "Make it so"! adub
While I was marching I could never say that I actually "hated" anyone. Sure we had a little rivalry with the Cavies being the only two all-male corps, but I can't say that I actually hate any corps specifically. I've met some outstanding individuals from just about every corps as well as some people I was not fond of but that had nothing to do with their personal corps affiliation. I have the utmost respect for anyone who participates in Drum Corps because I know first hand the amount of drive and determination it takes to make it through a season. I personally hate no corps, but some have at times earned negative thoughts by their behavior or the behavior of their staff or admin. Fans on here don't bother me, and I don't hold their corps accountable for their actions. After all, I like the Phillies, and I hear every year we have the worst fans in baseball, yet we sell out every game and follow our team phaithfully

The Other Mike
Just like any other disfunctional family who fights each other and treats each other like crap sometimes, we can say it about each other but let some outsider say something bad about a corps I hate and I will defend their honor. I've seen some knock down drag outs between certain corps BITD, however, those corps were brothers in arms when one would get attacked by outsiders. Of course I marched one of those corps who really were just a street gand with instruments
3rd Glasgow BB
I think the parents are worse than the kids... Just before Devils came on to the field at finals last year a group of parents where I was sitting stood up and walked out. I heard one say "I'm not watching this cr*p". Although this isn't something that's unique to Drum Corps, parents can be idiots when attending any sport etc. their kids compete in.
