I have a feeling '08 Phantom is going to take it, but I have to throw my vote in for Cadets '05. Still the coolest show I've ever seen on the field, and achieved at a level we've never seen since, and might not see for a very, very long time. Plus, Liquid is the coolest piece of music from '05.

"Spartacus" followed by "We Are the Future" for me; I would put "007" just after those. The three early 2000s Cavaliers champion shows, "Niagara Falls", "Four Corners", and "Frameworks", appeal to me less than their runner-up in 2003, "Spin Cycle", mostly because of the music. I quite enjoy "Machine" and "The Phenomenon of Cool" but not as much as the others. "Winged Victory" mostly leaves me cold. I don't care for the voice work in "The Zone", though it does have some merits. And the use of synthesizers is likely to mean I'll never place any recent shows above work from 2008 or earlier, but we shall see. It's a bad road to go down. (I do incline to feel "1930" was the best show of 2009, though, but enjoyed the fifth-place Cadets show most in 2010, much more than "Through a Glass, Darkly", as long as I didn't have to focus on Little Geoffrey.)

Cadets 2000 - the greatest show ever written in the history of marching music in all of the universe.

Cavaliers 2002 - just about as flawless a performance as we may ever see, ever.

"Machine" was a show about various different machines, and also the concept of machines itself.

Errantly calling this show "The Machine" signifies that it was about one machine in particular, which it was not.

I had to vote 2004 -- that was my first year following drum corps, and my first show (Siloam Springs) got rained out at intermission, but I was so hooked I went to Broken Arrow and Cavaliers blew me away. Of course, I had to vote 2005 since that was my rookie year, and just a fantastically performed show that sticks out more than any other, sans 2008 and MAYBE 2007.

That show was called "Machine", not "The Machine".

Please don't do it injustice by calling it the wrong name.

Thank you.

I loved The Machine - one of the best shows ever.
