How Can DCI and Corps Engage us Next Couple Weeks?

Recommended Posts

so possibly not knowing what one corps is playing is enough to ruin your trip to a show?

really?

I then stand by what I said that you quoted.....stay the #### home.

I've gone to plenty of shows in my 43 years where I didn't know what corps are playing, and it didn't ruin my experience. Hell given how people write up their shows now, you don't know what they're playing.

Actually, in my past 27 years of seeing shows, I usually knew what each corps was playing via the pre-season DCI Today etc. preview publications, or in the last 15 years or so the Internet, or purchasing the DCI souvenir program early in the season. I do agree with you that "given how people write up their shows now, you don't know what they're playing".

So, you are saying you don't know if a drum corps contest is going to be good unless you know ahead of time what the corps are playing? Really? Then I would guess you are not a lover of drum corps. No offense, but, that's what I surmise. Because in 35 years of involvement in the activity, there has NEVER been a show I didn't enjoy. Not one. Does that mean I loved every part? Not at all - there have always been things I liked and didn't like. But the love for the activity and all it brings far outweighs the .... amplified singing, just to throw an example out there.

No, I'm not really saying that - just reacting to Jeff's comment of "but stay the #### home then" (no offense, taken, of course) when trying to compare two somewhat similar situations.

You don't have to worry about me being a lover of drum corps either - been around the activity for 27 years, and have gone to Finals every year since 1989 (in addition to some smaller shows each year).

well, here's my advice then. write the directors of all the corps that take their time to announce, and voice your displeasure. tell them how it affects your enjoyment and how you may stop spending your money on it.

then like people that said no way to amps etc, see how far it gets you, and trust me, after 8 years of amps, 3 years of legal synth, and other rules changes, they still cant get that right, nor do they care if people stayed away

This guy would probably not attend a football game because the visiting team hasn't announced what kind of offense it's running.

Actually, all current College and Pro football teams have annual camps open to the public. They also have annual spring squad games open to the public... some of these practice games are televised. So the analogy between what DCI Corps provide to the public in the offseason currently and what football programs show to the public currently was not a particularly good one, imo. They could not be more different in terms of the info and the watching in the preseason, imo. And this is my no means a dino vs. newbie issue. It cuts across all demographics. Most fans want more from Corps in the offseason except for a few handful that curiously want no changes in the current blackout of info, despite typically being on board and on record with the need " for change " in most other things related to the Drum Corps activity.

All good points and well said Brasso.
