garfield
Ya right..This is like finding a fox inside the chicken coop with blood and feathers covered all over his nose, ears, eyes, mouth, etc and he has that quizzical look on his face that asks you : " Hey, where the H did all the chickens go ? Just catching up, but this one I can't let go without commenting. Bravo, Brasso.
Jeff Ream
This is interesting only for those who were not aware of Hopkins' stance on woodwinds. It's been out there for years and woodwinds still have yet to come to DCI. Until Hopkins pulls an Emperor Palpatine or perfects mind control, it will stay that way. is he not the chosen one? garfield
Actually it is a constantly rotating pool of people, not one that remains stagnant and then has to be refreshed. I don't see a change like this happening unless there was a real need for it from a $$ standpoint, as there is little support inside DCI, unlike the instructors' support for A&E. What, exactly, do you think the G7 was all about, Mike?
garfield
Works for BOA and the Hopkins-lead USBands. So it's not like he hasn't ran this model. And if you have kids that can afford $2500 - $ 3000 for a summer band program, you're figuring a good % of those parents have the $ and commitment to go to shows. If you keep attracting well-funded members, that IS your refresh. Have you seen the USBands balance sheet?
oldsnare
Can't remember where or when, but George has stated woodwinds will never happen in his lifetime.
chaddyt
is he not the chosen one? You'd think he was, reading some of the posts about him over the years. Bottom line is it's not happening this year. It's not happening next year. There's little to no support for it in the activity outside of Hop's brain. I don't see the point in getting fired up about something that has no shot of coming to light when there are far more legitimate drum corps issues to discuss that are based in reality. Like 2013 prediction threads.
jim costello
Drum corps attendence is declining because because it ISN"T drum corps anymore ! Its BAND ! No starting line , no finish line, no American flag . Most of the music can't be identified by ear ! The corps march terribly (except for the cadets) last year.
ShortAndFast
Even if George had his way, it's pretty hard to see any DCI corps using woodwinds for anything other than solos in the pit unless they greatly expand the membership limits. What show designer in their right mind is going to give up a dozen brass/guard spots to add a barely-audible clarinet line?

I respect your right to have your opinion but you're wound way too tight today, Jim. Step back and deep breaths. Drink this and unwind.
