Ch1k3n
I personally absolutely loved BK's 2011 opener. The beautiful singing integrated right into the show drill, the nice hornline coming in softly as a snare rolles out a crisp solo, the hornline building intensity all the way up to the first impact, and they weren't done there! They continue to move and exude lines of song, especially the beautiful mello licks. Intense drill leading up to the company front where the music slows down but stays powerful while the corps moves into a sort of angry eyebrows type thingy. The form breaks and the music speeds up again with more delicious mello rips and the whole corps moves into the closing arc while playing glorious music, mellos belting away. It was hard to put in words, but I tried.
N.E. Brigand
For me it's '89 Madison, "Make His Praise Glorious". Brilliant arrangement. A wonderful show, which still holds the second-highest score for a seventh-place corps (93.600), only having been surpassed in 2007 by Bloo ("Criminal", 94.050). Just behind is SCV's 2008 show ("3hree", 93.025).

cowtown
A lot of good ones listed and I love the word ‘best’ because there can be several ‘best’ That said, one for the list, 1980 (also 79 / 81) Spirit of Atlanta – Georgia – starts off with a nice solo and at the hit, you knew they arrived... about 75 seconds of drum corps bliss

Peel Paint
Not sure I have the years right, but: SCV - 1987 (Russian Christmas Music) BD - 1992? (Bella and Bird in B-flat) Garfield - 1983 (Rocky Point) I'm not remembering Bela and Bird at the moment, but definitely agree on the two from SCV and Garfield. Not just scorched earth, but take-no-prisoner, cracks-in-the-stadium-wall openers.

mr1138
Sorta surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but my fav. of all time is BD 03. The way it built from the initial snare solo, gradually layering in elements of the ensemble for the first min or two was absolutely BRILLIANT, and incredibly musical.
