Blue Devils made history today!

Is this making history in that BD has never had a female center snare before?

Right. Original post wording is a little confusing. This is the first time BD has ever had a female center snare. Not the first time there has been a female center snare in a DCI World line.

Right on BD!

Okay, I'm a long-time DCI/band fan, but don't believe I know the implications of being the center snare... I assume that she is the "section leader' of the snares, but what does that entail for performance? Does everyone guide off them for tempo/stick height/whatever?

Typically the strongest, most consistent and musical player. Players on the R and L of center listen in toward center, to hold together ensemble. Center snare also typically sets the the tone at practice. No one moves until the center says so.

SCV has a female center snare a few seasons ago. Crown also did, but I think she was injured during the season.
