VERY long story short: The bride, (named Scheherazade) does not want to be executed, so tells the king a story, continually ending in cliffhangers with the hopes to be spared another day. She continually tells the beginning of a story every night, and the king continually postpones her execution because he wants to hear the ending of the story.
