Boston Crusaders 2016

Recommended Posts

Hello Boston 2016,

It is the 76th year (that's the spirit)of the corps and it is time to move on from last year as great and as fun as it was. BAC stifled the naysayers who had them coming in no higher than 15th, basically having them written off. Nicely done BAC. The kids & staff worked hard and it paid off in the end. Not that it mattered much given the events of this year. Hopefully the show designers are getting great retention and can take things up a notch. There is a new Corps Director in place already and who knows what other changes are in store, if there are any at all. The corps support team and leadership are dedicated and will provide all the direction and guidance needed. Good luck to all. Keep working and Building A Champion. To all the corps volunteers you are not forgetten or unappreciated. Nothing works unless all of the volunteers, alumni, instructional staff, leadership and most of all MM's and their families. Here's to you all.

They have 500+ new / members all ready signed up. Should be a great start to 016. There will be other surprises coming.

Good luck to everyone involved w/ BAC in 2016,

I also hope they get a new brass arranger as well.

Curious on the new brass designer? I had the impression most BAC folks liked RG's stuff.

I could have done with a different approach to the music this year as I have a hard time getting to brass through the synth, drums and singing.

Some more knowledgeable than I in today's brass instruments feel they could improve brass scores over a point with other brands than Jupiter, but free use of the instruments is hard to turn down. Phantom uses Jupiter and they do well with them.

Once again misinformation by Ghost. It is Chris Holland (NOT Chris Collins, whoever that is) who is taking over for Andy Waldukat.

A very Interesting choice, but not surprising considering his rich history at the Boston Crusaders. I also marched with him in the corps as well and remember him as a very passionate guy. I also found his bio at http://inspirearts.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Inspire-Board-Biographies-2015-04.pptx. Here is that copied below:

Work Experience:

-Christopher Holland is a practicing attorney and former Assistant Attorney General in Massachusetts. Chris specializes in criminal and civil litigation throughout the District and Superior Courts in Massachusetts.
-He has successfully defended criminal cases in matters involving: OUI alcohol and drugs, multiple offense OUI cases, domestic violence, misdemeanor and felony battery charges, home contractor/fraud violations (prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office), and drug distribution and possessory offenses.
-He has litigated breach of contract disputes, violations of M.G.L.c93A/176D, and tort cases and successfully argued motions for summary judgment in the Land Court.
-Chris was admitted to U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, December, 2010 and has experience in federal e-filing and bankruptcy e-filing.
History:
-Chris is no stranger to music or performing arts. He was Director of Bands in Norwood from 1998 to 2002, where his performing groups received superior ratings and performed at Boston Symphony Hall, Tanglewood and the Hatch Shell.
-His 9 years as a member of the Boston Crusaders culminated with his service as drum major. He continued his involvement as a brass instructor for the Boston Crusaders, Carolina Crown, and the Phantom Regiment, where he served as Brass Caption Head in 2001.
-Chris joined the Board of Directors in 2012 and is a member of the Executive Committee.
Education/interests:
-Born and raised in Boston, Chris is a graduate of Boston Latin Academy.
-Chris earned his BA in music from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his JD from the New England School of Law in 2006.
-When he’s not working, Chris enjoys ice hockey, music, and spending time with his family.

I really like Ryan George's brass arrangements which are very true to their original compositions...What did you specifically not like about the arrangements? Just asking...

I'm also curious what is believed needs to be improved in the brass arrangement - I've enjoyed Ryan George's music over the past few years - it seems to fit the BAC style. Also, I seem to remember only positive comments about BAC's music this year. The only negative comments (besides those from the anti-vocal, anti-synth clans) seemed to be focused on the visual and show design this year.

Although it took a while to hit its stride, I thought this year's show design was pretty spectacular during the championships, and fitting of a 75th anniversary extravaganza. Maybe, it could have spread the field or worked around the banners a bit more - who knows. I'd be interested in what the GE judges had to say about it during the season.

BAC had fewer competitive shows scheduled this year, and one of those was a rainout - while this gives them more time on the practice field (also more time for the designers and staff to make changes), I wonder how much effect this had when they were competing. Does this help or hurt their mental confidence when they're performing?

OK emc2, let's not start with another off season of teasers. "There will be other surprises coming"!!! If you know something say something. No more of the "keeping a monkey in suspense" routine for us all please. LOL.
