Cadets 2016

The "next step" should have happened when they were in design meetings and rehearsals. Any "LEAP" that may happen will not be enough this year.

And I post that with the upmost respect for the Cadets organization.

You don't get the goal. Or what is meant by "the leap"

The leap is when the corps starts really performing with greatness and leaps to the "next level"

This isn't a competitive statement

Sounds like last night they came closer. Maybe Saturday they will hit their stride. Maybe not until finals night...

Good night for Cadets. Cut gap from corps ahead. I think the Sully and Kristy cleaning is starting to come through. Need to get music caption up which should improve with the cleaning they're doing. GE will improve when judges are convinced to take a new look at Cadets. It's late BUT a strong all day rehearsal is huge. Need a great performance at east. A few people I know that were at show last night all commented on brass and guard excellence. Waiting for judges to acknowledge that too. Edited by Tobias

does anyone have the guard ranking or score from last night? George O is a very influential judge. So curious

Did George judge CG or VA? He's not a lover of Cadets BUT if he sees something positive coming through, he's very good to have on your side. Everyone judging respects his opinion. (That's where the INDY mysterious scoring gaps come from. The thumbs 👍 and gaps open up for you, 👎🏻 and all your practice the last week and you still lose steam in scoring).

Cavies in 2001 were filthy. GE was off the charts but BD and Cadets were way cleaner in all performance captions.

Really? Do you know how to read?

2001 Finals Recaps

Cavies - 2nd in visual performance(better than Cadets), 1st in music ensemble, 2nd in percussion(better than Devils), 2nd in overall music(tied with Cadets)

Cadets were 3rd in all visual subcaptions, 3rd in brass and music ensemble

The only thing Cavies didn't excel at that year was brass, but everybody was way behind Devils in brass in '01.

I hate to be the bearer of positive news, but the show last night was fantastic. Yes. Cadets have some design issues and I am sad that they're not in the upper tier (because frankly, let's be honest, I am accustomed to seeing them up there and want them there again), but last night, they showed some vast improvement from what I have seen on the videos. This is my first time I have seen them live (was supposed to see them in Clifton, but you all know my fiasco with that) and I was impressed with how loud they were; that drumline is freaking fantastic!!! They need to get those FEET TOGETHER!!!! They are not marching as well as I am used to seeing, but I think a lot of it may have to do with the new visual staff (just speculating though). But all in all, I am pretty excited to see them improving. Also, I do not think the guard is as bad as people are making them out to be. Last night was the cleanest I have seen them all season; I couldn't really take my eyes off them throughout the night. The crowd around my section loved them. You can take that with a grain of salt as I am sure most of the naysayers will.

Keep it going Cadets and KEEP CLEANING! You're improving and people can see it.

It seems that some Cadets fans have become a bit more fixated on placement than entertainment factor lately

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lately...

So what? THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE on this site are fixated on scores so let's just stop limiting it just to Cadets fans. Thank you.

Yep. Saw it as recently as possible, albeit from a stream. The colorguard staging is a freaking mess, and cleaning it will not make the total impact any better.

They made bad design decisions. Hell, I made more than my share in my twenty years in the activity. I hope the corps has fun and enjoys finals week. There is more to the activity than winning. I wouldn't trade my bond with my guards and corps for most anything. That is what matters years later.

At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in sixth.

A freaking mess. Yeah I will disrespectfully disagree with you but whatever. It's a variation on opinion.

By the way, I cannot wait to see BD next week. I have heard great things about their show.

Not trying to be a slang term describing male genitalia or challenge you but do you ever think that maybe Cadets show this season is a little too deep for some spectators to understand, including the judges? I mean, judges have their perceptions and opinions too and unfortunately I do think that there are some personal feelings that get in the way of the outcome of a judged show. Look I'll be honest, I don't understand HALF of what some corps are trying to portray on the field year in and year out. Maybe I'm not that deep, I don't know. Call it what you want but this year....I actually get what the design team was going after and I credit that to the performance of the members. Is it a flawless design like some other corps that I'm not particularly fond of? Not in the least. Are there perhaps some elements that are lacking? Abso-freakin-lutely. Yes, clean clean clean would be a major step in the right direction but as far as portraying a story and/or idea, I think that Cadets have done that pretty well this year but hasn't been very well received by the judging community Whether or not the public/judges get it is one thing but to say that the design of this year was essentially a complete flop.....I respectfully disagree. I don't see their guard as a problematic component. They are so much stronger this year and really add to the effect of telling/portraying the story of the show and I think are staged (and I hate using that word) pretty well compared to recent previous years. Saying that no amount of cleaning is going to make it better is completely asinine to me. Name me ONE world champion corps that was dirty at finals? Besides MAYBE Cadets 2000 and to be honest, we only know that because of what the MMs have said about the performance of finals that night and I think that Tekk and ChaddyT can attest to that.

Yeah, we weren't really that clean finals night as we normally were throughout that season. I think quarters night was the cleanest we were the entire season. THAT was our greatest show. I loved that performance.

The feet are improving rapidly. Remember the ballad to the closer is only in about 1 1/2 weeks. New drill, music and guard work. Their improvement has been miraculous. Another 5 + days of solid cleaning and 👍👍👍

I am looking forward to next week. No matter where they place at finals, I consider this a relatively good rebuilding year for them. I love the show a lot more now than I did in the early season.

A new staff can take time to get the chemistry going so definitely very very slow out of the gate but I think they're hitting their stride now so as long as they look and sound great a finals, I'm happy. Guard is really so much better than the past few years. If we get a nice surge in INDY, even better. Edited by Tobias

In spite of the electronics malfunction to start the show (when have we heard that one before?), Cadets have been tenacious in pulling out all the stops with this show. The storyline makes sense now as the awakened people triumph over the statues - evident by the staging of the guard.

One question I have is why does the violinist end as a statue at the end? Seems like she never awakens like the rest of them.

I expect Cadets to leap over SCV by season's end.
