DCI Tour Premier Detroit, MI - June 20, 2019

Boston Crusaders: We knew Boston's guard would not disappoint!  Staged perfectly.  Doing the tough stuff.  Loved it.  Memorable moment when the David character caught the rifle after running between Goliath's legs.  Brass and percussion stepped it up this year!  Loaded with the technical goods.  Visual had plenty of new stuff (loved seeing a competitive GE number this opening night).  Refinements are sure to come.  The pacing of the show is there.  What it needs (really needs) are more of the quieter, lean-in moments.  Even a drum corps fan has a limit for loud, in-the-face, high-tempo, double-tongued wizardry!  It's bad-### to have a great ballad.  Boston nailed it in 2017.  2018 and 2019 have felt like afterthoughts.  There is so much this brass line is capable of.  Don't throw away the shot at maximizing the variety of effects they can produce!  The solos / duet in the ballad totally created a moment... it needs more time to develop with the full brass line before ending it, or marring it with...

...that Hamilton clip. In many judged sports/arts, there is an automatic deduction for doing something more than twice in the same performance... and the second time needs to be somehow different.  Don't make the audience wish you would "throw away" that clip... many otherwise great musical moments were interrupted by its overuse.

Great start for Boston!  1.1 points out of the lead is way better than last year's 3.0.

I’m either gonna get in the sled and drive to Detroit or go to a different theater next year.

Come to Detroit next year! Hope and I will be happy to show you a good time!

Cadets did a Jethro Tull show in ‘04. It was weird.

I'm pretty sure they did until early June, then it was changed to a Vietnam show for a couple weeks.

Then it became a Jethro Tull show because GH went to a concert. That was the second week in July.
