Bluecoats 1989:

Total show length 10 min. 50 sec.

How long any part of the brass plays while moving: 6 min. 1 sec.

Bluecoats 2019:

Total show length: 12 min. 13 sec.

How long any part of the brass plays while moving: 2 min. 27 sec.

So I was wrong. It's not three times as much in 1989 as in 2019.

Wow. For a horn line to only play and move at the same time for just 2 min. 27 sec. is similar the our snarelines BITD not moving during difficult parts in the book. Not a good look for Bloo.

But it's not just Bluecoats.

Clock what SCV did last year or BD did the year before and I think you'll find similar numbers.

And I don't think they're the only ones. But I don't have time to do a full survey at this time.

Or BD any year (recently) - they’re really good at hiding it.

Definitely the trend these days.

To me, without having run the numbers, Blue Devils in 2018 and 2019 seem to be playing while moving more than they did in 2017.

That's just my impression, and I welcome corrections.

Bluecoats did more m&p in 2017 than in 2016 (again, that's my impression), and they dropped from first to fifth.

Apparently the judges aren't rewarding moving while playing.

(And the judges only do, in broad terms, what the corps direct them to do, so that means the corps collectively have decided it doesn't matter.)

SCV played while moving approximately 2 mins and 31 seconds in a 12:02 show last year. Really puts on a new perspective. Regardless I loved that show

Can we all please put the stop watches away?  Let’s just enjoy the amazing shows we are privileged to experience this year. Every year the stopwatch brigade pops up and every year the data is irrelevant.

I only took out a stopwatch because I was told I was not telling the truth about Bloo '89 playing while moving more than Bloo '19 does.

I had not time either show before that.

But also: we each enjoy things in our own ways.
