Bob984
The Santa Clara Vanguard is the only corps to qualify for finals in all 48 DCI Championships.........a record that they are highly likely to continue.............. However, in their first preliminary performance in 1972 , they had a record that most likely will not be matched by any other prelim winner, and they nearly duplicated it in 1973. What is it? In 1973, their first title year, they set a record in both prelims and finals that is highly unlikely to be matched, and is also a 48 year DCI record. What is it? No......Perfect GE score was 1975, and that was quite a show.......to play some of the stuff that they played on valve-rotor horns was pretty amazing, and Royer and Sanford really created a gem of a book.........and the drill was very good for the day...........
Bob984
Just now, Jeff Ream said: 75 they won prelims but lost finals in 72 Your info was correct, and yes they were the first, but others have won prelims and lost finals..........this particular record (in addition to their finals streak) continues to stand, and is extremely unlikely to be broken. There were many "firsts" in 1972, since it was the first year of DCI.....however, these records (in addition to their 48 year finalist streak) that they established in 1972 and 1973, still hold to this day.............and also are unlikely to be broken.................{hint) no recap reading.......... N.E. Brigand
That's not the year they won the Noble Prize in Music, is it? . . . . . More seriously: is it that they're the only corps to win first place in their first DCI performance? (Were there any other sanctioned DCI performances before championships in 1972?)
