I think the new 3 class system is a joke and an excuse for trophies because corps can’t get bodies Bingo.

The courtroom proved they run a crap process and have deep enough pockets to get away with. a concert brining 20,000 people they won’t screw with. A drum corps show getting 6-7000 they sure will It’s a live nation facility now. You can’t book it with a phone call or a local human anymore. It’s got it’s own booking agent and crewing, and everything is internalized save for a very few specific money makers they’ve garnered as “community outreach”. C.Holland
Just now, Jeff Ream said: during the summer yeah. different story in the fall as there's 2 high schools that use it for sports, at least football, PIAA uses it a lot and two band circuits use it, and they aren't drawing BOA sized crowds That’s the “community engagement.” They’re still doing ok tickets sales wise on those other events. They can’t sell concerts in fall very well, after Sept. but they’ll find ways to rake on everything else. With the live nation piggybank they technically don’t have to book the venue ever. It could sit dormant and the others in the region will easily prop it up.
C.Holland
The be all end all argument is for DCA and DCI to work together, DCA corps will have to give up naming their own performance prices, settling for whatever show they can be squeezed into, and being treated like open class. Or worse. It would make DCA groups jobs harder for less payout. the bonus isn’t for dca corps in the east. But those in the south and Midwest where there’s no other dca corps to build shows with. Phantom56
DCI doesn't need to merge with anyone--other than Jeff Bezos.
wolfgang
Back in the 1970s, there were two pro basketball leagues: NBA and ABA. The ABA ran into financial problems. The NBA grew by absorbing a few of the ABA franchises. The rest folded. Drum corps is a different animal, but instead of folding DCA into DCI using the all-age model, the DCA corps need to decide if it's more important to exist, or to exist as an all-age corps. The Buccaneers, as a junior corps, may not be able to do a full World Class tour, but it is not required to do one. Jersey Surf has survived. There is no rule saying a successful DCA corps couldn't rebrand as a DCI Open Class corps and perhaps develop to World Class, or thrive in Open class as the Spartans have done and continue to do if that better fits goals and budget. In 2020, before Covid, former DCA member Carolina Gold was coming out as a DCI Open Class corps. Unfortunately for them the pandemic happened at the worst possible time (not sure if there even is a Carolina Gold organization any longer). Reading runs 2 successful DCA shows...one when DCI corps are in the midwest or mid south, and one after the season for DCI. going Open Class kills that income, which helps Bucs a lot. in fact going Open Class income wise is stupid period.
