Real ideas for sustainability & revenue

Colleges need to cover the costs of opening up and operating staff and expenses.

I can’t say that is accurate in all cases, as far as “opening up”. But one ST used college I do know of,  has a facilities crew on campus every day throughout the summer,  so adding on for that ST piece is minimal.  The amount of space in buildings is fairly limited that a corps would need to be opened; athletic facilities primarily, cafeteria, some dorms. Not all full admin or touring staff is at ST.  Feeding the corps is controllable using the cafe kitchen crew M-F and corps food truck on the weekend.  Overall there is a much more controlled environment and staffing,  than being on the road. Instructors; this is when most or all are there.  Their travel to & from is cost controllable.  The total ST cost is truly dependent on the length of ST.  With virtual instruction more prevalent than ever, the preparedness members have before arriving at ST should enable ST to be minimized. 6 weeks is wholly unnecessary.  And if you need that, you have other problems with time/cost management. IMO 3-4 weeks total from check in,  to pulling out for tour, or pre tour commitments (Concerts in the Park type events).  And no corps should come to their first show unfinished. Maybe not 100% guard work.  But music and drill should be done.  ST is definitely one place to focus on cost savings and once that’s done, that’s the model each year.  Focusing on winter camps should be looked at too,  which it seems like that is being done lately.

This.  And, lately some know-it-alls on dcp HAVE  been repeating the fiction that some corps actually have SEVEN weeks of spring training and 5 weeks of tour.  Just because some bitter, out of touch drum corps fan says something, that does NOT make it true.

Those on DCP that continue to post inaccurate information are going to be called out about it going forward.

So BD can score highest with only 24 days ST.  Hmmm.

I read on here it's a well known fact that BD cheats, buys off judges and is, in general, the Lex Luthor of the corps world.

6 weeks ST? We don't need no stinking 6 weeks.

Smart design and smart teaching goes a long way.

They have few assets to sell.   Everything that they got from YEA is now junk.  Food Trailer, Equipment Trailer, Box Truck and  couple of vans have little to no value.  Front Ensemble and Brass are the only assets of any value.
