N2CORPS
After seeing the poll on the preference of a quality hornline or a loud hornline I became curious. Which Division One corps do you think was the loudest in 2002?
Crownmember
the only reason why i voted for the cadets is because i saw an encore performance after a show one night, and they jsut blew my face off!! That was cool! B) PR and BD do come in a close tie for second though :D
MikeN
Blue Devils this summer pulled off something that astounded me. (disclaimer - was in a dome, though) Was watching their show through Ragtime, and was thinking to myself that they just weren't as loud as they used to be. Rhythm Medley really wasn't doing anything to make me change my mind until the big reentry after the soloist. (Where the drums start playing upbeats.) That little section, without a doubt, was the loudest segment I've ever heard any single marching unit play. Period. It was so loud all I could feel was the pounding drums and all I could hear was the distortion of sound in my ears. Until I listened to the CD's in August, I had no clue as to *what* they were playing in that part. Simply incredible - so loud that all you could do was feel it. BlueStar98
I was at the top of Camp Randell at quarters and no on e projected like PR, no one. Could it be the G's? Probably. They're gone now too. Welcome to Drum & Brass Corps everybody! Sorry, wrong forum...
GMichael1230
Blue Devils, very loud, and dynamic too. Phantom/SCV...tied for 2nd ~G~
Galen
I'd vote for Phantom as "consistently loudest", with Cadets, BD, Spirit, and Seattle being loud in parts, but not all of their show. Cavvies probably get my vote for "softest horn-line" of the year :P
Michael Oldemeyer
I'd vote for Phantom as "consistently loudest", with Cadets, BD, Spirit, and Seattle being loud in parts, but not all of their show. Yeah, Regiment's volumes were probably higher for a bigger percentage of their show (Shostakovich is good "loud" music), but I think the Blue Devils hit the peak volume out of anybody. I saw the PBS broadcast last night. I've got three things stuck in my head today: Shosty 10th Sym, Blue Devils' opener, and the Cavalier's closer. Now I'm really anxious for my CD and DVD to arrive. :) Michael Oldemeyer
BlooooContra
I'd say Blue Devils were the loudest throughout the show, hands down. Phantom and Bluecoats both had some unbelievable moments volume-wise during their shows, but not quite up to the ear-bleeding level of BD. All 3 incredible shows though. Can't wait for the CDs! StradmanBW
BD's Rhythm production and House of the Rising Sun both had moments that really gave me a horrible headache. I loved every second of it... if I have to get a migraine for loud music, so be it.
