Drum corps tunes at my wedding

Recommended Posts

My fiancee' has turned into a huge drum corps nut since I introduced her to the activity last year. She has already talked about trying to put Biebl's Ave Maria in our wedding somehow and after reading this thread she now wants to put just about every other great Regiment piece in our wedding. I have to temper her enthusiasm some because I can't arrange these pieces and I'm not sure who we would have play them if I could. Her other option was to get married in Rockford so that Regiment's hornline could play for us. We have NO family even close to Rockford and she's only been there once. She's a nut I'm telling you!!!

Aww come on.. make it a "destination wedding" -- like going to Aruba or Jamaica.. but yours would be Rockford.. :)

That would rule!!

Your other option is to arrange for a small brass ensemble and if you don't know any brass players who can do it, just look up the local musician's union in town.. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone there. Either that or contact one of the local church music directors.. they always seem to have the brass hookup at Christmas..

Good luck and congrats (and I'm REALLY glad you might be using the Beibl.. contact Chris Nalls from Renegades.. he may have a small brass arrangement of it since I am pretty sure I remember he and a few other brass guys from Renegades played it at Ed and Christina Dempsey's wedding in 03.. his ID is randomnoise here on DCP).

Good morning:

8. The cake was Madison Peach with little fleur de lis designs.

Music at the full mass/wedding: Cannon in D, One Hand One Heart, Ave (Beibl), Simple Gifts, and exit to Ode to Joy (I know I'm forgetting one or two).

Great memories!

Madison Peach?

Biebls Ave Maria is a personal favorite of mine.

A brass quintet I performed in played at my wedding. (without me of course) Processional was "Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring" with organ. Recessional was Purcells "Trumpet Tune" cant remember the other tunes.

I always thought Earl of Oxford March would make a great Processional.

Madison Peach?

I'm pretty sure that's just what the caterer called it. Whatever it was, it was yummy!

Biebls Ave Maria is a personal favorite of mine.

Wouldn't that be pronounced "BEEB-ul?"

WOW! That sounds REALY cool. I always imagined the bride walking down the isle to 27's Crown Imperial. That would be a real knock out!

OMG, I should send you a copy of our DVD of our wedding. My husband and I both marched with the 27th Lancers, we got married on September 27th, 2002, and what did I come down the aisle to? "Crown Imperial", and we exited to "Sea hawk" (we played it in 85), makes a great exit, and my guests were escorted in by an acoustic version of "Danny Boy" played by Eric Clapton.

Only thing missing was the rifle toss as I was coming down the aisle. My husband even wore his namesake kilt, "Louden". A true Lancer wedding. :) '

I am convinced now that "Crown Imperial" was the most perfect choice coming down the aisle. It's beautiful.

To the original poster, give it a listen to...and congratulations. :)

My wife and I had a Kiltie wedding July 4th, 2003.

Kiltie hornline (in uniform) played "Simple Gifts" from our show that year as the Processional.

Bridal March was Kilties' corps song, "Slow Syne" (starts soft builds to a triumphant end)

Appropriate for two people that were HS band friends 20-some years prior, meeting up again in Kilties.

For Hymn of the Day, I arranged "Old 100th" aka "Doxology" based on a 1600's hymnal version for the first two verses, then took liberties to show off the voices in the 3rd and 4th verses. It was cool. If you want it for your wedding, I will share the Finale file.

Recessional was Kilties' "Bugle Call/Parade Syne"

We marched the Racine 4th parade that morning (Bride on mellophone; Groom on euph), then the Kilties went to a 2nd parade while the wedding party started getting ready. Kilties arrived, cooled down in the basement, learned the "Old 100th" tune, and we had an incredible time.

The unplanned finish came when they had us come outside, walk under the horns, and they opened into horn arc to play more. Stopped traffic!

We had a half-page story on the wedding by Cozy in the DCI-week issue of DCW.

Drum corps photographer, Ron Walloch, was the natural choice for wedding photographer.

I'm fortunate enough to have a sister-in-law who is a part-time concert violinist; so we had a free string quartet play at our wedding. One of the members of the quartet did original arrangements of a couple of tunes for us. The processional for the bridesmaids was the opening theme to the film "Star Trek: First Contact." We're not enormous Trekkies or anything (although we both liked the film) we just loved that piece of music, and it worked great! Now if we had only had a french horn to carry the melody! But for the really important part – the processional for the bride – they played an arrangement of "Fire of Eternal Glory." It worked surprisingly well as a string quartet. Even people who were not familiar with either piece were commenting on how wonderful the music was at our wedding. Perhaps someday we will be rich enough to hire the actual Regiment hornline and renew our vows with full-corps accompaniment. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Haha, make sure that you add Mahler to that, with full dynamics. Man, I would have regiment play that at my wedding just because its freakin loud, and for no other real reason considering it doesn't really fit the whole wedding motif haha.
