MikeM
Usual disclaimers w/Stp: RFL is RFL if it's not balanced and in tune. If it's balanced and in tune, RFL is fffff, and is what causes those goosebumps.
PurpleKnights
No. It could set back the Div I corps who have trouble filling up members back even further.
Walter
Raise the max to 150 ? Hmmmmm....here's a few reasons why NOT !! - 4 buses just for the corps members - higher food, uniform and instrument costs - more people to keep track of Keep the number to 135. madscout96
Ya... maybe if there were no spots ever open in D1... but that's not the case. Lots of corps don't fill up. The excuse of "kids don't go to other corps" isn't a good one. You also let more into a top corps that indeed would have been in a second flight group.Let's work on filling non-finalists first. You're not being "inclusive" if you're for this proposal. If this passes, there will still be about the same number of people marching DCI drum corps. It's just that there will be more people in the top 5 or 6 than there used to be, and fewer in the lower tiered corps than there used to be. And there probably will be few lower tiered CORPS than there used to be. It's obvious that this proposal greatly benefits the top 5 or 6 corps, and nobody else. I don't know that I agree that smaller corps would automatically have fewer people...I see it more as just 15 less people (of the hundreds) being turned away annually from the top few corps. This is definitely a "rich get richer" proposal. The rationale of 10% more kids marching is wildly optimistic, since most corps don't currently march the max anyway. The effect would be to widen the gap between the top corps and the 2nd- and 3rd-tier corps. Definitely, better to find ways to fill out more of the corps than to expand the size of a handful. drumcat
yes.~>conner Then how about 450 as the limit. No, no, let's make it an even 600.
BlooooContra
How about this? Say you're in the trumpet section. You march with 22 trumpets. In 08, you have to march with 24. Take the would-be worst guy: guy number 22. Now think -- you'll have 2 people in your section who suck even more than him. Sure, there will be more inclusion, but I think quality might suffer just a tad at the top where the additional spots will easily be filled. I'm picturing my age-out year, and if we shaved off the 2 worst ticks in each section, how much better would we have been? (Answer: Way cleaner) I'm sure the same could be said for just about any group. Now I'm picturing adding even more people to the 05 Bluecoats who would have gotten cut. Aaaaand I'm shuddering just a little bit. Yeah, I'm thinking about the overall product over the lives of 15 more individuals, but that's just the totally baised way how I roll. :P Does any of this make sense, or am I totally out in left field? xanhae
Bad idea. Kill it now. If someone wants to see 150-200 people on a field, let them stay home and watch college football in the fall. :P Or watch a Texas 5A high school marching band. I think Allen H.S. had some ungodly number like 600-650. Yes, I said High School.
JimF-LowBari
- 4 buses just for the corps members- higher food, uniform and instrument costs Yep, the corps with the ability to keep paying bigger and bigger bills will be the only ones left. I'd say some corps would drop down to Div II to survive but Div II/III is looking like Land of the D###ed lately.
